  1. Hey, my daughter loves the Ener-G bread and most people seem not to like it. But they do seem to sell a lot of it! I don't personally like any gluten-free bread very much but then I never was much of a bread lover. It will do better if microwaved for maybe 10 seconds or toasted. The most like regular breads that I've tried are the quick breads. There...
  2. Hamburger gravy with plenty of chopped onions and celery over mashed potatoes. Really good on a cold day!
  3. My daughter wasn't seeing high numbers but I am very glad she got the C-Peptide test done. She is on the max dose of Metformin now. And her A1c has come down.
  4. Most 4 year olds are picky. If I were you, I would send in her snacks and when needed her lunch. I don't know how the school would handle this in the lunch room. My daughter didn't have a lunch room when in elementary school. She ate at her desk and food that I packed. Take her shopping with you. Have her pick out new foods to try. Have her help...
  5. Thanks!
  6. My husband's family is Italian Catholic and traditionally they serve the seven fishes for Christmas Eve dinner. My husband's favorite is one that was simply oil (MIL seemed to use Wesson...eek!), angel hair pasta, shrimp (I think it was canned) and a ton of garlic. She called it "eye ah oy", but she has a reputation for pronouncing things wrong. He would...
  7. With pre-diabetes and even with full blown diabetes, you can have perfectly normal fasting BG (blood glucose) and even a normal A1c. When are you testing yourself? If you are typical and have BG issues, then your highest numbers would occur around 1 hour after eating. If you eat a high fat meal or have digestive issues like I do then your high number could...
  8. That's how I make it too. Or close to it. I usually use olive oil instead of butter.
  9. You will make mistakes in the beginning. Perhaps it would be best to stick to a very simple diet of whole foods that you make at home in the beginning. Also... Did you go through your kitchen and get rid of or replace any potential sources of cross contamination? Such as non-stick skillets, toaster, wooden spoons, plastic colander? My daughter has...
  10. I bought some of this a few weeks back. I then saw it in a magazine and it was voted the best tasting gluten-free pasta. We had some tonight and while it was good, I don't think it was any better than Tinkyada and I think the Tinkyada is usually cheaper. Anyone else tried it?

    ARCHIVED Shari's

Currently they do have a notebook in the back that lists all the foods and the ingredients. Beware the salads! Some come with bread around the rim of the plate and it does not list bread on the menu. But if you ask the waitress she can look up the food and see what is safe.

    ARCHIVED Shari's

That's what their website says. Yay!
  13. Normally I do the day after Thanksgiving but... Husband gets really cranky about that. His family didn't decorate until right before and they didn't keep stuff up. So if he is around I have to wait till later. This year we were fearful to put up our tree because of our new cats. I don't think the mom would cause a problem but we were afraid the baby...
  14. Dr. Dan's Cortibalm. I buy it online. Great stuff!
  15. I hate it when they're like that. We used to have a favorite restaurant that was bought by a brother and sister who eventually changed the menu and not for the better. If I asked the brother, he would always tell me what was in the food and almost always it was not safe for my daughter to eat. We usually wound up just getting hummus and cucumbers there...
  16. I don't use mine any more. I did use it a lot when I was on a raw vegan diet. I made onion bread and nut cheeese. Those banana chips you buy in the store have been fried. That's why you can't recreate them at home.
  17. M & M's, little gumdrops, little jelly beans, nuts.
  18. I am lucky! My health food store sells the best and freshest popcorn. Very few old maids ever. They buy it bulk and bag it themselves. Before getting that I would buy it online. The Amish kind. It was very good too.
  19. I wouldn't even bother giving her a list. Sounds like she won't get it. Bring your own food. She might not like it but... Oh well!
  20. The wheat and milk in the fries are very old news. We won't eat them because daughter has a wheat allergy.
  21. I would just leave the pepper out. You probably won't notice it unless it is something that is normally very peppery.
  22. I got married and moved from the Seattle area to Cape Cod in the 90's. I felt totally out of place. Like a hippie. I couldn't believe the jobs that were available (not many) and what you were expected to do for so little money. Or the questions that were asked on the job applications. Like about your religion or what organizations you belonged to. ...
  23. I have seen several items that say gluten-free on the label but then say processed on equipment that makes things containing wheat. I can't remember the brands though. We have learned to read the entire label.
  24. We're not doing much. We usually go to my parent's house but my dad has been having some medical problems and my mom thinks the added stress of holidays isn't working out for him. So we are staying home. My husband likes turkey legs so I bought a family pack for him. I will probably cook those the day before. Have some old packages of gluten-free...
  25. Wow! What a mess. I know a girl who has IgG food allergies like my daughter does but she is allergic to many things. So many that she has to use a rotation diet. So even though she is allergic to gluten she can eat it a couple of times a week. I don't know how she is doing with it now but it was very upsetting and confusing to her when she was young...
