  1. We have a restaurant here called Boston's. They list all of the allergens if you look on their online menu. Oddly the nachos were not gluten free and I wondered why. Then I ordered them for myself and found out why! They used flour tortillas to make the chips from. Pppppyuck! I had these same sort of chips at a Mexican restaurant some years ago. I...
  2. I did tip her. I actually gave her a good tip. I just didn't know what to make of it all. Part of me felt like it was my fault for not asking. I do know better. At another restaurant we got dinner salads that had eggs on them. I am very allergic to eggs. I did ask about croutons and cheese but didn't think to ask about eggs!
  3. I have seen mention of gluten-free pasta at Big Lots and tonight I found it! Deboles Penne for $1.00 a box. It isn't my favorite pasta and we don't currently need any pasta but... I couldn't pass this up! I bought two boxes.
  4. This was a first! We dined at Shari's tonight. I like them because they do have a book in the back that lists all ingredients. And perhaps I should have asked that they check in their book tonight. But I didn't. My daughter had a chicken salad there before and it was fine. But they have since changed their menu. There were several salads listed and...
  5. I have an IgG allergy to eggs. They give me the big D.

This is why I would not go. It's a moot point now anyway. She is on a low carb diet.
  7. I would opt out. Yes, there are safe things he could make but it could easily be cross contaminated.
  8. That doesn't sound like low blood sugar to me. Some of it sounds like high blood sugar. Normal blood sugar is around 80. If it goes below 70 it is low. If it goes above 110 it is high. Note that every diabetic has their own range. I am supposed to keep my blood sugar between 90 and 130.
  9. I bought the Hormel chili with beef and beans just like I always had without checking the label. Then I was getting ready to heat it and saw the soy in the ingredients. I don't think it had soy before! If it did, I didn't notice it. I am not allergic to soy but it does mess with my thyroid so I do try to avoid it. That stuff went to the food bank.
  10. I actually googled this once. Has to do with hormones. Some people get constipated instead. I used to always get really sick to my stomach at the start of it and have what I called the intestinal dump. Thankfully that seemed to go away at some point. Maybe mid 20's? I can't really remember. I'm 52 now.
  11. I do not and will not. I had once once as a child and became so ill afterwards I might as well have had the flu. Now that I know that I have an egg allergy, there is no way. Which may well be why I got sick as a child. I didn't learn of the egg allergy until a few years ago. I was constantly sick as a child and young adult and didn't know why. I did...
  12. Daughter has been fine with Amy's but she has an allergy to wheat and not celiac. But... There have been many reports here in the past of people getting sick from Amy's.
  13. I buy different kinds of rice. Most recently I got some with veggies mixed in. It's this brand: Open Original Shared Link They also have one with mushrooms in it. I buy their Texmati rice and make Spanish rice out of it. I don't have an actual recipe. I just use what I have in the house and it is never the same way twice. If I am putting...
  14. There used to be one here. Wheatless in Seattle. They closed and the owner now runs or at least partially runs a bakery. I haven't been there. Too many other food issues for us and she couldn't accomodate.
  15. Most years we do not give out candy. When my daughter was younger we only handed out toys. We even did this prior to knowing of her food allergies because for the most part I am anti-candy. This year we are giving out fruit snacks that are purely fruit. Reason being she is too old for toys. Used to be I could use the extras for school parties and such...
  16. Well... I am overweight but that wasn't always so. As a child and teen I was pin thin. To the point where people accused me of being anorexic. I grew up in a very mixed home. My mom was big on the health foods and my dad was big on the junk foods. He would bring them home in large quantities. But mostly I guess we ate a healthy diet. I became...
  17. Sorry to hear that. We were just invited to a wedding celebration for one of my husband's brothers. It's a second marriage for him and his wife. They have already gotten married. We can't go because it's in another state and there is just no way we could do it with school on and such. Anyway... I looked up the restaurant where they are having this...
  18. Sorry to hear that. Gluten isn't an issue for me. But I do have an egg allergy. A couple of weeks ago I stupidly ate a bite of the gluten-free bread on my daughter's sandwich, totally forgetting that the wrapper listed egg in the ingredients. And then I paid for it. It happens.
  19. It isn't any one particular food. I just miss the freedom of being able to go out to eat without researching what might be in my food. Or grabbing something at the grocery store and just eating it without having to check and recheck the label.
  20. I don't trust them at all. First they led us to believe that the fries were vegetarian when they were frying them in beef fat! Then they didn't disclose the wheat and milk that are in the oil. And yes they are in there but I don't want to get into that old debate. Might be safe for a celiac but might not be safe for someone like my daughter who has a...
  21. We get the Garlic Jim's pizza with no problem. I believe they make their crust elsewhere. They do roll it out but don't use wheat flour. I think it says on their website that they use rice flour.
  22. Skittles, Swedish Fish, Gummy Bears. We put microwave popcorn in my daughter's treat bags. You can get some that is dairy free. Bearitos makes one brand. I can't remember the other brands offhand but they are organic.
  23. What do you put in your tuna casserole? I used to use cream of mushroom soup or white sauce. Now I use Pacific Mushroom soup because there is no dairy. It's good in there.
  24. For me, salads are the riskiest things to get unless I know there are no croutons in the place. I can't tell you how many times I began eating the salad and found a crouton in there. Or crumbs. Or the taste of crouton. I hate croutons to begin with! Often they will start to put them on your salad then realize the mistake and pick them off. Not good...
  25. They have a new gluten-free menu. The pasta is no longer microwaved and the portion is quite large. Why would it be rude to not take breadsticks? Why would you be embarrassed to order gluten-free? Just ask for the gluten-free menu when you are seated. You'll have to ask for croutons on the side for your salad.
