  1. No cooking here. I made pasta salad the other day.
  2. My daughter was picky at that age and also did a very weird thing at dinner. She would throw her fork down and scream that she was hungry and needed a snack. I would be like... Uh... But you have FOOD right there! I never figured that one out. I guess she thought a snack meant something else. Something she wanted to eat. One rule I always had was...
  3. I assume that you have a full kitchen to use? My daughter loves stuffed baked potatoes. She picks the biggest baking potatoes she can find. I cook these either in the crockpot or microwave until tender. Prick them with a fork several times all over to prevent them from exploding. Let cool enough so that you can handle. Cut a thin slice off of...
  4. I have never made cheese sauce in the microwave. I have only ever made it on the stove and that's pretty quick. I am unfamiliar with the flour you used. Prior to going gluten-free I would often use cornstarch in my cheese sauce. That works well but some people say it breaks down when reheated. If you're not going to use it as leftovers, it's not a problem...
  5. My mom, daughter and I all have IgG food allergies. Some people refer to them as intolerances but the Drs. who diagnosed us referred to them as allergies. No, we won't die if we at those foods. But we will get very sick. I also have OAS (oral allergy syndrome) to pistachios. That won't kill me either but it leaves my mouth very itchy. I have fought...
  6. There used to be some sites online where you could shop for allergen free foods and you could put in your allergens. But I think they are all closed now. One problem with shopping online is that the items will not always list the "may contain" or "made on shared lines". Many is the time I got food I thought my daughter could eat, only to find they may...
  7. Who knows. I've never eaten a Big Mac and have never wanted to. Not only do they smell bad but they look and sound bad too.
  8. I agree with you about his working in a restaurant. Unless he is in a gluten free restaurant and it doesn't sound like he is...he's not taking this seriously enough.
  9. My daughter is 13 now so mostly packs her own lunches. But when she was younger it was often something in a thermos. I quit doing this after one accident with tomato soup that spilled all over eveything...the lid came loose. And twice when neither she nor the teacher could get the lid off. But I would make extra dinner food and send the leftovers in....
  10. My daughter has an IgG allergy to wheat. Used to be gluten but she outgrew it. But when she did have the allergy she would get a rash and would get sick to her stomach from eating gluten. This could last for a couple of days. She also couldn't come into contact with gluten. But it also affected her life in many ways. The school thought she had ADD....
  11. Wow that's tough! My daughter is 13. Her case is different in that she doesn't have celiac but an IgG allergy which she is hoping to outgrow. She keeps begging me to get her tested. She has outgrown dairy, soy and egg. But I don't feel hopeful about the wheat. I say this because she has been tested twice already. She does not buy lunch. Not ever...
  12. I know brown rice is better for us but I use white because I have digestion issues and my daughter prefers the white.
  13. Hypothyroidism can raise your blood sugar. It doesn't always. But I do know of one case of a woman whose blood sugar issues resolved when she got on the right dose of thyroid meds.

    ARCHIVED Why, Oh Why?

I can soooooooooo relate! Every specialist I go to tells me I don't have _____. I have whatever their specialty is and not the other problems. Riiiiiiiight.
  15. We like hummus. Very cheap if you make it. We use raw veggies to dip in it. Another cheap meal is a bit of breakfast type sausage cooked through, then add finely cubed potatoes and some bits of red and green bell pepper and onion. Cook until the potatoes are done. Farmer's omlet. Cut a few pieces of bacon into small pieces and cook through. Remove...
  16. Costco (Kirkland brand) tuna is also soy free.
  17. I may have had this problem but I also have psoriasis and that can look the same. I cleared it the first time with OTC NonyX but... Once cleared you have to keep using it. We were making a cross country move and I didn't want to pack any more than I had to so I didn't bring any. It came back. I cleared it the next time using some herbs I bought online...
  18. He is three. And it is very common for kids of that age to be picky eaters and/or eat the same things day after day. At that age my daughter insisted on black olives and canned green beans (straight from the can, room temp.) at every meal. She would also eat baby carrots and certain fruits if they were cut just right. She liked chicken noodle soup but...
  19. I can't drink either. At your age, I would try sometimes. But it didn't agree with me. So maybe you're lucky there because getting drunk isn't a good thing. Nor do you want to be around drunk women. I did still go out. I had diet soda or club soda. Not everyone in a club drinks. Do you have a job? If not, then maybe you should look for one. Even...
  20. I just ordered some. My daughter is supposed to take probiotics because she has no appendix. I've been getting some stuff at the health food store but it is more expensive. So we're gonna try this.
  21. Gluten isn't necessarily bad for people who do not have celiac or a gluten allergy. I have neither. I don't consume a lot of it because my daughter can't have it. So I bring very little of it into the house. Mainly prepared foods. And I might order a sandwich in a restaurant. It doesn't adversely affect me. But you are right. It is everywhere!
  22. It's extremely likely!
  23. I have diabetes. And for most of my life prior to diabetes I had reactive hypoglycemia. This is now thought to be a precursor to diabetes. What happens when you have that is that when you eat carbs, your blood sugar will spike and then drop rapidly. Some diabetics find that they still have it. So what they have to do is use their meter and test their...
  24. My friend was allergic to the fluoride in toothpaste. Her symptom was a weird rash around her mouth. She switched to one without it. Cracks at the corners of the mouth are often a sign of a vitamin B allergy. I have to take B Complex. If I don't, my mouth cracks.
  25. I don't know how old your mom is but that might be an issue. My mom's memory is just shot. We have given up on her getting it. We just bring our own food now.
