ARCHIVED Mother Nature's Gift To Women
Juliebove replied to maximoo's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I had not heard that. My daughter is 5' 6" and has been for a while. She got her first one last month. Her dad is 5'5" and I am just over 5' 7". -
ARCHIVED "my Kids Can't Have Gluten So I Have To Get Whole Wheat Spaghetti For Them"
Juliebove replied to their-aunt's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter used to constantly say she was hungry. She would throw down her fork in the middle of a meal and scream that she was hungry and needed a snack. This pretty much stopped once we learned of her food allergies. I guess I was just feeding her stuff she was allergic to pretty much all of the time! She must have mistaken the upset stomach for hunger... -

ARCHIVED What About The Chicken With Rice Soup?
Juliebove replied to catsmeow's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you make your own chicken and rice soup it should be safe. You know what you put in it. If you get it in a restaurant I can almost guarantee you it will not be safe! They will most likely use a soup base that has wheat in it. I have asked at every restaurant that has had it on the menu and it is never safe. Some restaurants sell Campbell's and it... -
We've tried Burlington, Bothell and Woodinville. They can't get your order right no matter what. We don't like them.

ARCHIVED Need Help Settling A Gluten Disagreement
Juliebove replied to sariesue's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I would bring both. People won't like the gluten-free ones even if you don't tell them. If you do tell them they won't try them. In my mind there is no sense spending more money to make gluten-free stuff for people who don't need them. Just buy the wheat rolls. Nobody will care that you bought them. Frankly I would be far more worried about the rest... -

ARCHIVED Is It Gluten Or Is It Lechtin? Please Help :-(
Juliebove replied to GFNewbie2011's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Just a thought. The chips may have been made on shared equipment. To be sure you would have to call or e-mail the company. -
ARCHIVED How Awesome Is It When People "get" It?
Juliebove replied to luvs2eat's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That's great! I have been watching some of those wedding shows (not sure why) and am always astounded at how much of the food contains gluten. So I went looking at catering sites in this area to see if anyone offers gluten-free stuff. None do. And even with what they do offer, much of it contains gluten. Crackers with the cheese. Pita with the hummus... -
ARCHIVED Mother Drives Me Nuts Cooking Gluten Laden Foods
Juliebove replied to catlover0329's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Gluten isn't an issue for me but if it were, I wouldn't have eaten any. I would have given it away or thrown it away. Myself I have food allergies and diabetes. People still give me foods I can not eat. Such as cookies. And fancy egg containing gluten filled pasta. My daughter has the gluten issue. People just don't think. And when they get older... -
I really wish I could go there. I want to take my daughter there. She used to LOVE Chinese food. Alas she is on a low carb diet now and I have an oyster allergy so I'm thinking no. I will have to eat vicariously.

ARCHIVED "my Kids Can't Have Gluten So I Have To Get Whole Wheat Spaghetti For Them"
Juliebove replied to their-aunt's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
People think really strange things. My daughter was at my friend's house when she was little and my friend asked me if she could have some Ramen noodles? This was long before we knew of her wheat allergy. I said she could. I was then horrified to learn that my friend gave them the noodles straight from the package. Uncooked! She told them they could... -
My daughter is in her second year of pre-pointe. This year she got the pre-pointe shoes. Her teacher is out of the country. The teacher that was filling in said that the pre-pointe shoes are simply pointe shoes that didn't pass inspection and that they then remove the shank from them. I don't know if this is true or not. She also went on to say that...

ARCHIVED How Do You Explain A New Diagnosis To Your Child?
Juliebove replied to kb27's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I didn't have to because the Dr. did. My daughter was 6 at the time. She has allergies though. Not celiac. He gave her a list. Such as... Instead of this, eat that. Made it easy for her to understand. -
ARCHIVED Applebee's Restaurant - Gluten Free Menu
Juliebove replied to CalicoSue's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I just looked that their website. Not only does that salad contain breaded, fried chicken, but they have a disclaimer on their website saying that they can not make the food safe for people with food allergies. -
ARCHIVED Applebee's Restaurant - Gluten Free Menu
Juliebove replied to CalicoSue's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I also remember reading here in the past that the chicken in and of itself is not gluten-free. -
ARCHIVED Question About Carbs With Dinner
Juliebove replied to alex11602's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Are you sure your blood sugar is getting low? Are you testing it? Because high blood sugar can make you very sleepy. Have you seen a Dr. about your issues? If not, you should. I have diabetes. For me, eating low carb does not work. That bounces my blood sugar higher. So I do have to eat some carbs but not too many. What about beans? Those contain... -

ARCHIVED What Are Your Culinary New Year's Traditions?
Juliebove replied to love2travel's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I've never had fondue! Every year I buy a can of black eyed peas. I love them! Daughter and husband do not. But I try to get them to eat just one because they are supposed to bring good luck. I don't make any particular meal. Just something easy to do. Husband just watches football all day anyway. I try to have a lot of snacks and leftovers around... -
ARCHIVED My Favorite Gluten Free Meal And Snack Is . . .
Juliebove replied to Debbie48's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I love to do my roasts with red wine. I buy the little single serve bottles because I don't really drink. I also LOVE onions. I cut up a big onion, then use the bottle of wine, salt, pepper and some parsley. If you want to make a gravy, take whatever pan juices remain and thicken it with a slurry of sweet rice flour and water. If there is not enough... -
ARCHIVED How To Explain That I Don't Want To Eat Out
Juliebove replied to llama3's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Just tell them there is nothing safe for you to eat there. Do you have any restaurants in your area with a gluten-free menu? We do have some here. You could also try to find places that cook from scratch and get to know the chefs and/or owners. That's what we do. They will gladly cook special foods for us. Look for places that mention food allergies... -

ARCHIVED Christmas Dinner And My Mom
Juliebove replied to eborzecki's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I hear ya! My mom seems to think that gluten-free things will taste weird and she simply won't serve them to the others. She always has me make a gluten-free whatever it is and she makes a regular one for the others. So... I just gave up on it. -

ARCHIVED Newbie With Some Food Intolerance Questions
Juliebove replied to Cashe2's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
If you have a problem with milk it stands to reason that you'd have a problem with cottage cheese. But I don't think that was ever on the IgG tests I've had! Just dairy. So that's kind of weird. I have an IgG allergy to eggs. Big time! Here's how the egg thing all played out. When we lived on Staten Island, I tried to cut back on the carbs because...
