  1. Milk makes the bread softer.
  2. I have the same problem with my arms over my head. I don't know why.
  3. I don't think much is safe there at all. Looks like mostly individual ingredients. Like a hamburger patty. I don't think the tacos are safe at all.
  4. She eats quinoa in things like pasta but doesn't like it in and of itself. I can't eat it in and of itself because it spikes my blood sugar very badly. We've never tried amaranth nor have I seen it for sale anywhere. Where do you get it and what do you do with it?
  5. Sugar free gum usually has sugar alcohols and can cause D.
  6. Yes I have decided with the high carb foods she can have just one serving or 15g of carbs at a time. Exception being the Teff wraps. They are 30g per wrap. The thing is the Dr. didn't say how many grams of carbs she should have per meal. And low carb diets vary widely. I don't want to cut the carbs back too much because I think she is is still growing...
  7. I can't eat pureed foods. They make me gag. And I can't deal with bones. It's a psychological thing, I know. I can digest ground beef and I can digest chicken. I just don't like chicken unless it's little bits of it and it has to be mixed with rice, pasta or potatoes. Daughter doesn't like ground beef at all. I do like roast beef but it makes...
  8. It takes a lot to make me cry. I have a knee that subluxates. That means it pops out of place and then back in. Hasn't *knock wood* happened for many years. But when it does the pain is very sharp and intense. It will bring tears to my eyes but the tears are brief. Mainly it is stress that makes me cry. Like the time my husband took everything in...
  9. I come from a family of picky eaters. In some cases it is a psychological thing. Daughter and I both have issues with meat that has bones or skin on it. We can't eat it and I usually can't cook it. Oddly she does like chicken drumsticks and will sometimes eat them but then other times the psychological thing kicks in and she can't bring herself to do...
  10. I can not eat a low carb diet due to gastroparesis. That is nerve damage to the vagus nerve in the stomach most likely caused by diabetes. That means I do not digest fiber or most meat. I have a severe egg allergy so can not eat that. I can not eat much in the way of vegetables because they will cause me stomach problems and they will then come back up...
  11. My daughter and I do not like any of them. We don't see the appeal. But when I was on a raw vegan diet, I tried some brownies that were really good. The recipe I am posting is just the first one I found. It isn't exactly what I used. The one I used had no honey or agave nectar and no coconut but other than that I believe it is the same. So you might...
  12. I have the same problem. In my case the cause is a statin med for cholesterol. I didn't make the connection for several years. Then I was reading online about how it can raise blood sugar. I am a diabetif and my blood sugar was out of control. I stopped the med on my own. Blood sugar went down. Hair began to grow back. Dry skin, chapped lips and dry...
  13. I can't do that because then I wouldn't be able to eat. Because of *my* medical issues, I often have to eat that which she can't. I don't eat ice cream. Don't even like it. I don't know if we even have any ice cream in the house now. If we do it isn't a lot. My husband doesn't live here now. He's in the military. But he usually comes home every...
  14. Yes she's 13. I don't know if that hungry thing will work for her. It certainly doesn't for me. I went for 3 days once eating nothing more than a few candy bars that I sneaked out to buy. I was about her age. We were staying with a great aunt and uncle. I did not like her food at all. She would only serve bland, mushy things because she said it was...
  15. Not only does she have food allergies but she was recently diagnosed with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis and a high level of insulin and insulin resistance. So sort of like diabetes but she doesn't have the high blood sugar yet. The Dr. wants to nip it in the bud so wants her on a low carb diet. She is also on Metformin and a thyroid med. Now I realize this...
  16. I use sweet rice flour to thicken. Cornstarch works as well and tastes fine but it doesn't reheat as well.
  17. Try not to do what I did. When my daughter was diagnosed, I bought every book I could find about gluten free stuff. Not all of the cookbooks I bought even worked for us because there are additional food allergies. Then I went through the books, wrote down the names of the various flours and weird sounding ingredients then bought them. I couldn't find...
  18. First off... Who would you sue? The server? The cook? The restaurant? The maker of the buns? And how would you prove anything? Yes you got sick but you can't say why. Saying that something tasted too good isn't enough. If you had saved some of that meal and could take it to a lab for testing, then perhaps you would have proof. But even then there...
  19. My daughter won't eat stir fries or black beans. But she will eat most other beans. A favorite food of hers is just pasta (any kind) with tomato sauce. With that I would serve a salad with kidney and/or garbanzo beans on top for protein. Or a pasta salad. For that I use large shapes of tri-colored pasta, cooked and cooled. Toss with baby carrots,...
  20. They very well could be contaiminated. We avoid them. I used an oat product in the bath and then my daughter took a bath in the same tub. Just the residue left in there gave her a rash.
  21. We have Garlic Jim's here and I believe their dough is premade and brought in. I can't remember what it is they use to roll it out but it is not wheat flour. It might be rice flour. I know it is gluten-free. I did watch them make our gluten-free pizza but was not really sure if they made it in a dedicated spot because they were really not busy. We went...
  22. My daughter was allergic to those things. Has outgrown some and has some additional allergies. She likes apple slices or carrots or Fritos or gluten-free pretzels (The Wylde by Ener-G and Synders have no soy) with hummus. Coconut yogurt. Rice Chex or Trix with rice milk. She has a container with a bottom that you put in the freezer to chill and then...
  23. There are gluten-free noodle things available. We bought one that is noodles and ginger and I think maybe chicken? I can't remember. It is a Thai food. We've got to watch those because she can't have peanut and a lot of them contain peanuts. That wouldn't do for school though unless you make it first and put it in a thermos. Will she eat chicken and...
  24. This sounds sooo familiar! My daughter is 13 too. There are things she will eat at home but not at school. When she was younger, she would take a thermos. But she won't take one now and I really can't blame her. Once with tomato soup, the thermos came open slightly spilling soup all over anything. The next two times with different thermoses, the lids...
  25. Nope. They are not allowed to eat in class at all. I was waiting to talk to the counselor last year at the parent's night and a mom was talking to her about her daughter having blood sugar issues and needing to eat. The counselor said she would have to keep something in her locker and eat it between classes. When I told my daughter of this she just laughed...
