  1. OMG. I wasn't aware that a formal diagnosis would qualify us for financial assistance. I have a formal diagnosis (otherwise I wouldn't have put myself on a strict gluten-free diet for life), I wonder if I can get that money retroactively? I'd like to finish my degree also. This is great news. Thank you. best regards, lm p.s., What's a textbook case...
  2. The following is just my opinion. Take from it what you like, or not. This is the Celiac.com forum. Not the joke question forum. Celiacs can't eat wheat bread. Whole wheat bread. White wheat bread. Any kind of bread containing wheat flour. It's not a matter of how much gluten. All kinds of non gluten-free bread have the same amount of gluten. Too much...
  3. There's also Woodpecker and Hornsby's. Pear and rasberry flavos too. Hard apple cider just seems too white zinfidel for me. It's on the sweet side. best regards, lm
  4. bb, Please don't extrapolate from Rice Chex (which is a gluten-free product) to fast food fries which have a declared (albiet miniscule) gluten content - on my sayso. I simply post my experiences just like everyone else, anecdotal evidence that must be taken with a grain of salt. We all have to make judgements based on facts as we see 'em, personal experience...
  5. kn, I take Celebrex daily and several other meds on this list occasionally. Thank you for the info and for your efforts. It is very much appreciated. best regards, lm
  6. This is one of many issues that are never going to be resolved. I can safely eat McDonald's fries. I can safely eat Rice Chex. I can safely eat plain (unseasoned) Fritos, Cheetos, Potato chips, Tostidos, etc. Just a few examples. Do I have Celiac Disease. Yes, without question. Can all other Celiacs safely eat everything I can (and vice versa)? Obviously...
  7. As much as I would like to believe in a treatment for Celiac Disease, I can't put much trust in Alba. I attended a presentation calling for volunteers to participate in this study. I responded via email by filling out the supplied questionaire and followed up by telephone to the contacts provided at this presentation. I did not receive any replies. Not by...
  8. First off, welcome to the forum Kirsten, Ok, there's a lot of info in this post. Let's try and separate the potential cross contamination issue with the new protein lattes from the possible syrups issue. Also, the vanilla bean powder and mocha chips. I take it that as a former district manager you drank a lot of Starbucks products and never got sick until...
  9. Amen to that. I chopped up some haberneros the other night and later rubbed my eye. It hurt real bad. lm
  10. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think sea salt has iodine of any sort added to it. It does contain naturally occurring metals/minerals in trace amounts however, and so may or may not contain elemental iodine. Elemental iodine is toxic in higher doses though. In the water quality laboratory, we use Lugol's Solution in a test of lake water for...
  11. Yikes! I should know better than to get hosed like that. You would think if someone replied to a 4
  12. Wow. I guess I can eat Corn Pops now. Anyone tried ingesting wheat starch? best regards, lm
  13. I should have done a search first. Open Original Shared Link
  14. That's the first I've heard of Canola oil being unsafe. Anyone have any info on that? best regards, lm
  15. Sorry to inform you otherwise, but no, you won't get a coupon. At least, I didn't. best regards, lm
  16. I spent quite a while reading labels at the liquor stores in Dallas. They had a huge selection. It was my impression that most vodkas are made from grain. Only a very few (one or two) were made from potatoes, and I can't recall any that said corn. Of course not all brands list exactly what the sources are. I'm looking at a bottle of Vikingford: "Vikingfjord...
  17. Hi there MA, I did a quick search and found this. There's lots more of course, but this is the first one I found and has posts by yours truly. No extra charge. Open Original Shared Link All I did was type bun pans in the left box at the top of any page. Using the search function opens up a world of information. Most Celiac related questions...
  18. Did you order hair-free? If not then you need to do your research better. You should have told your waitress you are allergic to hair. You should have asked for the hair-free menu! lm
  19. I have a comment that I hope may be helpful. I hesitated to post earlier 'cause I don't know enough about DH. Deb, you felt like it may have been something you were ingesting on a daily basis, and that the itching subsides in a day or two. Well, if it is something you are ingesting on a daily basis, why would it subside in a day or two? The fact that...
  20. In my demented delusions, they're not monkeys, they're evil clowns!
  21. I've run across some cookies, dog food, and other products that say wheat free prominately on the front label. Upon reading the ingredient label, the first ingredient was barley meal! Newmans Own was one such product (may he rest in pease). So I'm sure no one needs to tell you guys, but just in case, be carefull. best regards, lm
  22. 'Cause of the beef in the fries! Yeah I know, it's pretty obscure. The eating meat on Fridays was a separate thing. It may be different now. At one time, as I was growing up, it was a sin to eat meat on Friday, ever. That's why we always had fish sticks at school on Fridays. Then they changed it (I hope they let the poor souls out of hell or purgatory...
  23. I'm sure you've heard the story about the woman who had a bat in her coffee filter. It was in all the newspapers and on all the TV news last week. Open Original Shared Link best regards, lm
  24. I got some small sprinkle jars (they look like miniature mason jars with a handle and a white top) from walmart. I think they are 75 cents. They don't hold a lot, maybe 2-3 ounces. I had to drill out the holes a bit to improve the delivery. One I cover with some foil & rubber band when not in use. And the other one I use the top insert that came with...
  25. I use a coffee grinder (I bought another one just for this purpose, only cost $10) for ancho, dried chipotely, and any other dried peppers I can find. I sprinkle it on chicken, with paprika for color, and other spices before cooking. I add it to my homemade salsas in addition to the fresh peppers to give more heat and flavor layers. I use it in chili, taco...
