  1. I don't know about blood testing for dairy intolerance, sorry. Perhaps someone else here knows ... or you can report back what you find out. Good luck figuring things out!
  2. For me, yes. It might make a difference if you are reacting to lactose versus casein in terms of how quickly you react, but I don't really know. Maybe your body's reaction to gluten counterbalances its reaction to dairy and you ended up balanced I'm a slow reactor, I guess. My symptoms build slowly and it will be a full day before my worst symptoms...
  3. Might I suggest doing a little googling? I spent a few minutes doing so and found one place to get you started: Open Original Shared Link I just used the search "gluten-free newport rhode island." I haven't explored beyond finding the one hit. The Inn itself should be able to steer you toward gluten-free friendly restaurants in the area. My BIL runs...
  4. Was this cheeseless pizza you had?
  5. I can hardly wait to get the bread now. Thanks for the baking tip. I imagine things can vary depending on your oven too. I also ordered the banana and pumpkin bread mixes. Maybe at some point I will try to bake from scratch. But trying to find a recipe that lacks all these things is proving difficult. One has to start making substitutions and...
  6. shai76, what do you do for bread and crackers? I recently found out I am intolerant to gluten, dairy, egg, soy, and yeast. I've ordered a mix from Breads from Anna that lack these things; I'm hoping it's good. I haven't found any crackers yet. The ones without yeast have soy and the ones without soy have yeast. I haven't had time for a complete...
  7. There's an article in the latest Clan Thompson newsletter about the "tip of the iceberg" idea, what the genes mean, and a reference to a recent study in a British medical journal about stool testing. Open Original Shared Link I personally found the tests useful if only that it confirms that I need to avoid certain things (I tested positive for everything...
  8. I don't see what you would do any differently. Celiac disease and gluten intolerance both call for avoiding gluten. There is no other treatment for either. Since you feel better off gluten, then you should stay off it. A label won't make any difference with what you do. Was your blood test positive or negative for antibodies? If it was negative, you...
  9. As I understand it, it is not required. I don't know if having such labels is a courtesy or an attempt to immunize themselves from lawsuits Under the Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act of 2004, any covered product labeled after January 1, 2006 must specify if it contains one or more of the major allergens. According to the FDA, any...
  10. Yeah, that's right. I was getting all those emails from them before I told them to stop. I think I'll save my money for yummy gluten-free goodies unless I hear from someone who really found it beneficial. There is so much free information out there, plus books I've bought I've yet to get through. I just react to problems by over-researching them....
  11. If you have a positive test, this should quiet the doubters. If you have a negative test, you might try Enterolab. Its testing is more sensitive and can see problems before they would show up in blood work. I've certainly read here of people who have had false negatives with blood tests. Ultimately, though, it comes down to how you feel when you...
  12. Is there any difference among coconut oils? Do you have a preference? This is something I've been thinking of trying for my dry, winter skin. I might want to cook with it also. I recently was exploring a web site full of articles about the benefits of the stuff. Contrary to my basic diet beliefs, but I try to keep an open mind to new evidence.
  13. Well, they won't certify that they are gluten- free: "Does the product contain gluten or is the product manufactured at the same site as another gluten containing product? No, we do not add gluten to this product, however we are unable to ascertain that the product is 100% free of gluten as we purchase raw materials from outside sources. The product...
  14. I guess it is normal to feel sorry for yourself. I do I've given myself at most a week from when I got the Enterolab results to buck up. So I've got a little less than a day left to bemoan my fate ... About soy -- some of what I've been reading is that it can be similar to both gluten and casein in terms of the effect it has on the small intestine...
  15. Really? Even if carefully washed? I thought I'd spent enough on my inaugural visit to the Gluten-Free Mall. Now I need to replace kitchen things too
  16. You can always buy the Clan Thompson guide available from the Gluten-Free Mall on this site.
  17. Something new for me to consider (I'm also new to all this). Is the concern only with nonstick cookware? Why is there a problem with plastic cutting boards? Wouldn't washing in the dishwasher eliminate any gluten? Anything else in my kitchen to be concerned with?
  18. A bunch of thoughts -- First, please give yourself some more calories. I don't think you are ballooning up because of gaining fat. Something you are eating is causing this and you need to figure out what. In the meantime your body needs fuel for everyday life. Also, you may be eating so little you don't have enough to make things flow through your...
  19. I appreciate everyone's comments. I think I will stay away from the "traces" ones for everything and any "machinery" involving wheat. I can always revisit the issue if I find I am more sensitive. Of course, I will keep track of any adverse reactions. I feel better having a plan, even if I'm not completely sure it is the right one
  20. Now that I have official results, the credit card is out. I've bought books, Triumph eating cards, Clan Thompson guides, the ScottFree newsletter, and assorted yum yums. Before I put the card away, is there any additional benefit to going with The Tuesday Club? I'm willing to get whatever may be of use to me. But I don't know that what they provide...
  21. I'm curious as to how you all deal with ingredient labels that say something may contain traces of something, is shared with the same machinery as something, or is processed in the same facility as something. Do you run for the hills? Find it is usually safe (the lawyers just want the company to protect itself)? Or does it vary (sometimes you react,...
  22. This is the answer I just received. My question about what the margin of error is on the tests was not really answered, a concern since my yeast score was only an 11. "We do not have lists of foods to avoid, but you will want to watch ingredient labels containing baker's or brewer's yeast and anything with the word "soy" in it. The only ingredient with...
  23. As I said in response to someone else, I'm inclined to retry things after healing (except for gluten). I've thought about the ELISA tests, but I haven't seen agreement on their accuracy. The best test seems to be how you feel when you eat, or don't eat, some particular food. I also have this thing about giving blood. Doctors and nurses have a heck...
