  1. Heck, hon, I have to avoid casein, egg, soy, & yeast, too, and I have more recipes than I can ever make. The trickiest part is eating out. I'm finding that I am slowly developing a repetoire of restaurants and particular dishes that work. But eating at home is no trouble at all (except for deciding what to make, making sure I have the ingredients ...
  2. Oops, I thought you were asking about some of the gluten-free products I've tried One type of cracker (tasted like cardboard) I left outside for any animals. Days went by and they weren't touched. Sorry, I couldn't resist when I saw the title!
  3. In a few weeks I'll be going to my son's graduation from WUStL. We'll be there a couple days and I'm trying to figure out where we might eat, preferably in Clayton. Although if there is some wonderful place we have to take the train or a cab to, we might do it ... So far, I've just come up with Barcelona, which is a tapas place. It seems to have lots...
  4. Usually veggies & hummus (or refried beans, etc.) -- then again, I eat vegan, so this is what I always put in wraps. I've also used these tortillas when I make Ethiopean food. I haven't heard of anyone being successful in making injera at home and I haven't found a wheat-free version available online. I've tried teff tortillas, but they didn't seen...
  5. I particularly like the one with "stop poisoning your body with food." It seems like that at times
  6. If you google under gluten free casein free you will find assistance, even if it usually is from those using the diet for autism. Here is one list of forbidden or questionable ingredients: Open Original Shared Link
  7. Bear in mind from the posted link that the soybean oil that most can tolerate is the stuff that is NOT "cold pressed, expeller pressed, or extruded oil." How common are these forms? And how often do lists of ingredients even tell you how any soybean oil was produced? I've only ever seen "soybean oil."
  8. Gluten in frozen rice milk? Sigh ... just when I thought I was figuring things out. Or do you think it might have casein or soy? I don't know that I've ever had frozen rice milk before -- perhaps there is something else in there my system doesn't like Next time I may go with the sorbet -- although I'll have to find out why it isn't shown as vegan...
  9. I think it might make a difference whether you are allergic to soy or intolerant to it. For the former, it sure seems like everything I've read says to avoid lecithin. For the latter (my category), Enterolab told me that they though lecithin would be OK for me. Of course, what is important is how your body reacts ...

    ARCHIVED Vegiac

It can be done. For inspiration, look at Food Allergy Survival Guide (there is nutritional and mealplanning advice -- everything is vegan and there are plenty of recipes for those who have to avoid soy, etc.) and The Gluten-Free Vegetarian Kitchen.
  11. You can diagnose yourself by elimination diet. There are some outfits that test your blood for food intolerances, but I don't know how accurate they are. I confirmed my casein and soy intolerances through Enterolab testing.
  12. I hope it wasn't the restaurant. We made an extra long trip to go to the one restaurant in the state that, not only is vegetarian, but makes it a point to say that they cater to those with food allergies. The menu itself says what is gluten-free, dairy-free, soy-free, etc. and whether there are options for eliminating things you want to avoid. It was such...
  13. Oh, I love the "second hand gluten" term -- thanks to the person who recently suggested it. Anyway, I'm still somewhat new to coping with my intolerances and thus still getting reactions. I am trying to figure out if I have other intolerances I don't know about yet or if the problem is second hand gluten. I recently reacted ... twice (maybe I'm...
  14. I don't know if they are like what you used to eat, but there are gluten-free flour tortillas out there. Trader Joes has one, but it is apparently only sold on the west coast. Food for Life has one -- of two packages I've tried (only comes frozen at my local store), one had dry crumbly edges and the other seems to be fine. Gluten Free Pantry sells teff...
  15. For my family, I just explained the test results and that I feel better on the diet. No one else has shown an interest in being tested. My particular symptoms seem to be unique in my family, although a couple say they have IBS. I can't really do any more than that. They don't listen to me about diet anyway ... I figure I've planted the seed. At some...
  16. Ah, another double DQ person. We should start a club. This is one of those things that gets kicked around as linked to gluten-related neurological issues ... The phone number for Enterolab is shown under the menu on the left side. You can also email them.
  17. Many vitamins will say on the label if they contain any usual allergens. As I discovered to my own chagrin, if they say hypoallergenic and list a few things they don't contain, it does NOT mean soy isn't in there. I got a little lazy as I was standing in a store reading labels ... and didn't realize it until I started having some symptoms Then I emailed...
  18. At first it would probably be good if you were as strict with the casein. You can always challenge later once your system is doing well on a Gluten-free Casein-free diet. You won't know if CF will make you feel better if you never truly go CF. Just because you never noticed a problem doesn't mean it doesn't exist. I never noticed a problem with soy...
  19. Are these the ones from French Meadow Bakery? I hope my Whole Foods starts carrying them. I have a freezer full of them which I ordered directly. Obviously, I like them. I've heard others say they like these too. I did run across one person who didn't like them & DID like EnerG bread -- so tastes can differ
  20. The test results could be consistent assuming that the second test was a blood test. The stool test is supposed to be more sensitive or capable of showing a problem earlier than it would show up in a blood test. Also, as already pointed out, if you have eliminated or cut back gluten, that would affect any later test.
  21. The first test only means that those particular antibodies were detected. I don't think that means there has necessarily been any tissue damage resulting from those antibodies. You can always email Enterolab for clarification. Since you lack malabsorption, it would seem you have no intestinal damage anyway. The issue of genes are celiac is unsettled...
  22. woolwhippet, is it lactose or casein you are going to eliminate? Casein is in lots of things as well, including supposedly "veggy" cheeses. You have to really check ingredient lists.
  23. Did you eliminate gluten prior to the blood test? If so, the test wouldn't be accurate. Also, you need a battery of blood tests, not just one. You only mention one result. Search through celiac.com and the message board; I'm sure all the different tests are explained. I would have to look the stuff up myself to explain it in more depth to you because...
  24. These don't come in German. Open Original Shared Link German is included in the list at the site I mentioned. What you get translated isn't as good (or durable) as with a Triumph card, but it doesn't help if you don't have the right language!
  25. I'm another one that just puts the date, the name of the meal, and what I had. This had started as a diet journal, so I put my weight and what exercise I did also. All this helped with my weight tremendously ... then I saw certain patterns. Gee, I feel sick and I just had this. Which is how I came to be tested by Enterolab. Now I put down any symptoms...
