  1. www.enterolab.com particularly: Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Dr. Fine's CV: Open Original Shared Link There is also information at: Open Original Shared Link Another article that may be of interest: https://www.celiac.com/st_prod.html?p_prodid=1417
  2. I wonder how they found people willing to participate in any study involving "rectal protein challenge." Sorry, that makes me squirm just to think about it
  3. You've had good advice about CC. (You've checked your personal care items, too -- like lip gloss, skin lotion, etc. And don't lick envelopes? And don't kiss anyone who just ate gluten?) I'll just address the vegetarianism issue. There is no reason that your diet has to be limited. I think you need to expand your repetoire of recipes. There is a Yahoo...
  4. My experience is that it definitely takes more than a week. I've seen any number of posts now where people report the same thing. My symptoms went back and forth for the first few weeks. Then things calmed down ... until I gave up soy and went through the same thing. I still have symptoms after four months. I don't know if I've reacting to other...
  5. Here's an article about it. Open Original Shared Link You can see there are a variety of names, and I recall hearing others. My husband, though, calls it "photo-sneezy-itis" so, of course, that's the one I remember. It obviously has a genetic link. My dad had it, and my sister, my daughter & I all have it. Usually three sneezes, too. It is so...
  6. That is my immediate reaction. I not only get a stuffy head, I go into sneezing fits for about 5-10 minutes & my eyes & nose run like crazy. A little later gastrointestinal things happen. Then next day the brain fog moves in.
  7. My first poll -- I've fixed it (I think). Thanks for letting me know.
  8. I didn't know I was intolerant to soy until I received the Enterolab results saying I was. Going off the soy I noticed some symptoms clearing up. Still, I sometimes have problems, leading me to think there may be other things I cannot tolerate. I noticed the soy-type symptoms after having a gluten-free pasta with lupin flour in it. Since that is another...
  9. Lactose is the sugar in milk. Some people have problems digesting it. Casein is a protein in milk. Some people have an immune response to it. With casein sensitivity, you cannot have dairy products or anything to which casein or a caseinate has been added. I think ghee is OK because the casein is removed in the process of making it.
  10. Enterolab told me they thought I would do OK with soy lecithin. I don't think it contains any of the protein that causes an immune response. As for soybean oil, my understanding from other reading is that it depends on how the stuff is processed. Some ways you get some protein in there, but there is a way to have it free of protein. However, if you...
  11. Recipes, recipes, do I have recipes. First of all, check Open Original Shared Link Plenty of fat free vegan recipes you can find on the regular site, in most of Dr. McDougall's books, in Dr. Esselstyn's latest book, and so on are gluten-free, too, or they can be converted to be that way. Use a gluten-free pasta, for instance, or sub a different grain...
  12. I have nothing to add about curry powder, except that I've used the Whole Foods one without problem (it has a list of ingredients where everything is named). I did want to add that my Triumph dining card says one has to avoid asafoetida (hing). Restaurants may use it in any number of dishes & it apparently frequently contains wheat, since a flour...
  13. It varies. Sorry I can't be more definite than that. Be sure to be aware that you may have other intolerances that are keeping you from feeling your best.
  14. As CarlaB noted, the gene tests aren't sufficient to tell if you have a problem with gluten or not. If you want something advertised as more sensitive than blood testing, get the stool testing from Enterolab. Or go gluten free and see how you respond ...
  15. It sounds like you will do well off gluten and casein then. You know the punch line to the old joke about, "Doctor, it hurts when I do this!" It sounds like your gut (small not large) is damaged and is reacting to foods that are hard to digest or irritating. You might stop soy as well. Even if you don't do the tofu thing, it gets added to lots of things...
  16. Uh, incompetence? I would be very angry if I were your husband. I would contemplate lodging a complaint or suing. At the very least, he should write to the original doctor to report what he went through because he wasn't told what he should have been told. If nothing else, perhaps this doctor won't do this to anyone else. Or is his doctor now the same...
  17. I don't think there are any typical symptoms, no more than there are typical symptoms of gluten intolerance/celiac prior to going on a gluten-free diet. Some people get cramps, diarrhea, and/or nausea. Some get tired with brain fog. I'm sure others can share their stories. My particular arc of symptoms is that first I get a major histamine attack...
  18. You seem on the cusp for both gluten and casein. Plus you don't have positive results for anti tissue transgl. or malabsorption. Have you gone gluten-free and had positive results? If not, I would first wonder if you have a problem with either substance. When scores can be substantially higher, is a 10 or 11 rather than a 9 definitive enough to change...
  19. No answers here, just a fellow sufferer. Things have improved from cutting out gluten, dairy, & soy, but hardly perfect. I still swing from normal (for other people, that is ) to hard. And this is with a high fiber vegan diet (I mean everything I eat has fiber). I figure I either am getting second hand gluten (or casein or soy), am sensitive to...
  20. OK, we'll forgive you. I think you've been punished enough. I'm still getting some accidental glutenings (or caseining or eggings or soyings or yeastings) but slowly that stupid stick is making some impact on me. I've learned that I can not go with things that "may have traces of" or "made with equipment shared with," etc. At the beginning, I thought...
  21. I don't see the need for another endoscopy. There is no call to do an invasive procedure unless there is some need to do so. The first endoscopy was less prone to error than the blood test was. I've heard of plenty of false negatives. (And what tests were performed? Apparently, if one is low is IgA to begin with, just doing an IgA test for antigliadin...
  22. It took me longer than six days, I can tell you that. I noticed some change after about 3 weeks. I'm still not all the way there. I am reacting to other things I haven't identified yet, am getting some second hand gluten (or casein or egg or soy or yeast ), or my system is still healing and learning to function normally. If you give up anything...
  23. I never had problems until I went on an ocean cruise. (Even so, an earlier cruise caused no problems.) I felt fine onboard. But once I was off I felt like I was on a strongly rocking boat. The symptoms are worse under fluorescent lights and seem to go away in the car. That, in a nutshell, is MdDS. Plus it seems to hit middle-aged white women who have...
  24. I hope you are right about the balance improving. I have a new, more challenging yoga tape. I've only done it one time & I kept falling over on the balance moves Often I get a little dizzy when I stand up, something which seems to be getting worse. Did you ever have that? I know if I am glutened, the most noticeable thing to me is the brain...
  25. I couldn't find the batch number on my bag either. In their response to me, the company said it is on the back of the bag, upper right hand corner. Sure enough, I found it there -- but I never would have seen it if I didn't know where precisely to look. The ink they use doesn't have much of a contrast. The problem seems to be with only that one batch...
