  1. Well, it seems to usually take longer than two days, from my experience and those of others whose comments I've read. It took me several weeks to feel significantly better (I still have symptoms at times, since I'm coping with multiple intolerances ...); I've seen people who say it's taken them months. Sometimes things actually do seem worse before...
  2. I have run across conversations where people say they have heard about double DQ1 being looked at as another marker for celiac disease, or a marker for gluten intolerance with neurological symptoms anyway, but finding the actual studies people are recalling is another matter! What I've seen is this: "IgG anti-gliadin antibodies have been the best diagnostic...
  3. I'm not the person you were talking to, but here is some information about dairy. Open Original Shared Link
  4. It could be the corn ... or food poisoning ... or some gastrointestinal bug unrelated to what you ate. I suggest keeping a food diary for awhile. Keep track of what you eat and any symptoms -- you may see a connection. However, if you've never noticed a problem with corn before, such a strong reaction to it now seems unlikely to me. People notice other...
  5. To Jestgar's list, I would add magnesium. Here is one opinion on supplementation: Open Original Shared Link
  6. I tested as soy intolerant (among other things). When I questioned Enterolab, they said they thought that soy lecithin would be OK. I assume this is because it wouldn't have any of the offending proteins. In my research, I've seen some say that soybean oil is OK. But other sites say that it depends on how the oil is derived from the beans. Too complicated...
  7. Here is a list of foods where you can see their glycemic index by clicking on them. Open Original Shared Link Is this what you need? It looks like most other beans are as low as kidney beans (and don't forget dishes made with beans, like falafel and hummus!). You also have split peans, yams, and gluten-free bread listed as low, among those things...
  8. These safe & forbidden lists are the best I've found -- https://www.celiac.com/st_main.html?p_catid...-46107568193.6e
  9. This is the site with the most languages I've run across (38): Open Original Shared Link
  10. Some links about B12 & Omega 3's: Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Two somewhat different takes on the issue. Google and you'll find more. For instance, you have those who think DHA supplementation is warranted. I don't know that I've a firm position on all this. I include some sources of...
  11. According to the article I linked to: "Wheat-based glues are sometimes used to seal wine barrels, raising the issue of whether the wine comes into contact with a wheat product ..." I don't know if any testing has been done to see if this results in the presence of gluten in the finished product or not. I guess we will learn that when and if allergen labeling...
  12. My symptoms have been largely gastrointestinal, from difficulty digesting items (just sit in my stomach), gas, bloating, to constipation & occasional diarrhea. It is hard to tell about headaches because they can come from so many things. But I'm definitely having fewer of them now. When I (largely) cut out dairy some years ago, my nose stopped...
  13. Actually, wine MAY contain wheat & other allergens. There is a proposal outstanding to require allergen labeling on it just like food gets. This is controversial, with the wine industry saying it is not a problem, though. Open Original Shared Link That said, I'm still drinking wine. When I have reactions, I've always been able to tie them to...
  14. If it is sliding down, wouldn't that mean you need the smaller size? I would contact the company if I were you. I remember doing a little research on this for my daughter. I'm menopausal ... unfair that I finally hear about something like this when it is too late. Anyway, I thought I ran across a few comments of older women who found the size 2 too...
  15. I used to have great eyelashes, but in recent years it's been like what you experienced. Now that I'm gluten-free -- who knows? I would like to have them back. I thought it was just old age My eyes seem to be sensitive to mascara so I don't use it. (Although I've never checked whether any of them have gluten or something else I'm sensitive to ...) ...
  16. First, calm down. You can find food. Heck, I follow a tasty, healthy, & diverse diet and I have to avoid everything you do (except for sage) PLUS soy & yeast. You can have -- Nongluten grains -- rice, wild rice, buckwheat, quinoa, millet, amaranth, corn Other starches -- bread and flat breads made w/o your no-no's, potatoes, sweet potatoes...
  17. Here are some free restaurant cards in different languages: Open Original Shared Link You can buy Triumph dining cards (google) that even have information as to particular concern in given cuisines, like the spice hing in Indian food. Before you travel, check current security information. There is no ban on food per se, but -- at least the last...
  18. What sort of things do you like? I've got lots of recipes, tried & untried. At fatfreevegan.com they have a whole gluten-free section. Plus you can always convert regular recipes -- use gluten-free pasta, substitute quinoa for bulghur, etc. The Yahoo group "Vegan-and-Gluten-Free" has scads of recipes posted. Everything I've tried at www.vegsource...
  19. Thank you for sharing your information and thinking of others at a time that must be difficult for you. My BIL has just been diagnosed with MS, but his doctor (supposedly an MS "expert") has not said word one about diet having an effect. You are so ahead of the game. My husband and I did a lot of research about MS when we heard this was a possibility...
  20. Thanks -- I'll look for that one. If I keep buying cookbooks, at some point I will get to be a good cook, right
  21. I was eating vegan for a number of years before finding out about my food intolerances. Adjusting to those intolerances hasn't been any more difficult than it seems to be for those who eat meat. If this is an indication of something you might want to do, rather than an expression of frustration (hard to tell with internet posts), I will certainly be willing...
  22. Welcome to the club -- the one that is glad that Enterolab doesn't test for anything else I eat vegan, too, so it is an experience. Eating at home isn't bad. Questioning folks in restaurants about every substance can be a hassle. And I think my grocery shopping is taking at least twice as long. You need to be concerned with bits of casein (and everything...
  23. If you don't get an answer here, you can check with the DCCeliac Yahoo group. Here is a caterer in Baltimore that will do gluten-free. Open Original Shared Link I know of a bakery in Baltimore that is just gluten-free. Open Original Shared Link I don't know if they do wedding cakes, though; it seems like it if I read one of the posts correctly. The...
  24. I don't know about that. It turns out that most everyone in this country has 2 gluten genes, that is, except for the 35% or whatever it is who have a celiac gene. I think this just tells you that you don't have celiac. Or probably don't -- I've heard some say that you have to have the gene, others say that 1% of celiacs don't, still others say that...
  25. Remember, google is your friend Here is one list of ingredients one must avoid on a Gluten-free Casein-free diet: Open Original Shared Link There are lists for just milk allergies, too, like: Open Original Shared Link Always check ingredients. I've seen soy milk with casein in it. Things identified as "veggy" having it too. I don't worry...
