I'm sure you will find lots of people here who find there are more food intolerances than those four! I think that site just happens to deal with those four. If it is the one I'm thinking of, this is probably because that is the information they have developed and have for sale. The entire issue of allergy versus intolerance is tricky since people define...

ARCHIVED Officially Casien Intolerant
hathor replied to SunnyDyRain's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
You might find a rice milk you can tolerate. I happen to like the flavor of almond milk better, myself. -
I think different people have different symptoms. I know I react that way to soy (my face also breaks out).

ARCHIVED Just When I Thought I'd Figured It All Out

--> QUOTE(Lola B @ May 17 2007, 11:47 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hello All - I'm relatively new to this whole gluten free life style, so I'm hoping that someone can help me out with some advice. I'm wondering about soy - specifically soybean oil found in peanut butter. Is this safe to consume? My daughter has DH and lately it's been flaring up alot... -
I guess you will just have to keep track of what you eat & how you react. I have problems with fried or rich foods generally, but that's me. How are you feeling these days after having something high in fat other than fried corn products? Can you tell what kind of oil the storebought products had been fried in? I ran across a list from a medical...

ARCHIVED Safest/best Medicine For Headaches
hathor replied to jmd3's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I used to get frequent headaches, but that has greatly improved since I found my food intolerances & ate accordingly. Anyway, I have had the best success with Excedrin. I remember reading about a study that found its combination of ingredients (aspirin, acetaminophen, caffeine) worked the best for headaches. I hope you get feeling better soon. -
ARCHIVED Ttg Positive Predictive Value

One thing I've wondered about -- if you have malabsorption (at least according to Enterolab), does this mean villi damage or can it come about another way? I don't have the celiac genes. But I suppose if malabsorption means that the villi are damaged, I could call myself celiac. It would make explaining things to people easier -
ARCHIVED Unexpected Positive Effects Of New gluten-free Eating Habits?
hathor replied to munchkinette's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm glad this was bumped up. I only came into the gluten free world this year, so I hadn't read the original posts until now. My changes (so far): Better quality & frequency of poo (yes, let's get the important thing out there first ) Dramatic drop off of headaches (had them all the time before) No inexplicable sneezing fits/ major runny... -
ARCHIVED Gluten And Yeast Free Bread?
hathor replied to Hangpilot's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Any tricks for baking this? I've tried this bread twice and I'm still getting door stops. The first time I used almond milk & ground flax seed; the second, rice milk & egg replacer. (I can't eat egg.) What do you use? Perhaps I'm not mixing it up properly? Or do I need to adjust the baking temperature or time? -
ARCHIVED I Can Soon Add Dairy Back!?!?
hathor replied to LoveBeingATwin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I know the feeling. I've felt glad that Enterolab doesn't test for more things, since I reacted to everything. Made me regret ordering that additional test of egg, soy, & yeast -- I anticipated just confirming I had a problem with egg and they threw me for a loop with the other two. -
ARCHIVED Brown Rice

Oh dear, I can't imagine having to skip nightshades, particularly chilis. I haven't noticed any problems with them, thank goodness. I've lost track of the number of hot sauces I have in my fridge. In Dr. Blaylock's book on excitotoxins, he mentions three -- MSG, aspartame, & carrageenan. I can look up what he says about the third if you want.... -
I've always heard that, once casein sensitive, always casein sensitive. It is like gluten that way. Are you sure Enterolab told you this? Nothing on the web site or in the information I received with my test results indicated that I could try it again later. I'm not saying you are wrong -- I would just like to confirm it. When I questioned my soy...

ARCHIVED I Can Soon Add Dairy Back!?!?
hathor replied to LoveBeingATwin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Lactose is milk sugar, which some have problems digesting. If villi are damaged, they can't do what they have to do to absorb this. This is why some celiacs, after a certain amount of time gluten free & thus with healed villi, find they can handle lactose again. Casein is a milk protein, to which some have an immune response. Casein is a "gluey... -

It looks like we've hijacked this thread. Sorry about that, tntownley! Anyway, I can't imagine a coconut-flavored pizza ... I know I have a flat bread recipe using bean flour somewhere that I was told could be used as a base (I would only put veggies on top, so this could work). I don't recall if it has yeast in it or not. One of these days I'll get... -

And so it does. I'll blame yesterday's brain fog I just looked at this list: Open Original Shared Link Thank you for taking the time to find that information and educate me. I guess I should count myself lucky I never developed a taste for nutritional yeast. Some use the stuff a lot to make vegan "cheese" sauce, to sprinkle on salads, popcorn... -
ARCHIVED Brown Rice
hathor replied to hathor's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The listed ingredients are: amchur powder, salt, ground cumin, ground coriander, ground turmeric, ground chilis. The only thing that is new to me is amchur powder, although I had it from a different spice packet from the same company (and didn't react) and perhaps I've had it before some of the times I've eaten in Indian restaurants. It is made from green... -
ARCHIVED Brown Rice

jerseyangel, It seems like I am getting more and more sensitive. At first products with those "assumption of risk" labels -- may contain traces, processed in the same facility as blah, etc. -- didn't ever seem to bother me. I don't remember if I even read this label before now. It seems I spend so much time obstructing traffic & reading labels in... -
ARCHIVED Dried Fruit Contaminated With Gluten?
hathor replied to nama shivaya's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I believe dusting a product with a particular flour would make that flour an intentional ingredient & thus would have to be disclosed. Of course, things that are not intended to show up in the final product do not have to be disclosed, even if they regularly do show up. It's been a bit since I read the law and commentary on it and I don't seem to... -
Well, the topic title & description say it all. I started a reaction last night to something (today & tomorrow will be the most fun ) My initial response is always shortly after a meal so I know it was something I had for dinner. Let's see, fresh veggies & fruit, olive oil, brown rice & an Indian spice packet that is labelled gluten free...

ARCHIVED Cheek Swab Testing
hathor replied to clh's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I didn't go there. I used Enterolab. You might to a price comparison. I recall someone saying Enterolab was cheaper than some other places. I don't have celiac genes so I saw no reason to have my children tested. Since we aren't of Asian heritage, they will have gluten intolerance genes (or maybe a celiac one if my husband is asymptomatically packing... -
ARCHIVED Dried Fruit Contaminated With Gluten?
hathor replied to nama shivaya's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Interesting. I recently ran across a list of what folks eating gluten free can eat, should check out, or should avoid, and it put dried fruit in the "avoid" list. I started a thread on several different forums about this. Some said the list must be old & was obviously inaccurate (it had some other goofy things on there). Others said they had heard... -

I remember researching this one time & not finding anything to indicate that nutritional yeast has MSG (or free glutamate) except this one guy's speculation. Truth in Labeling mentions "yeast extract," "yeast food," "yeast nutrient," and "autolyzed yeast" as the problematic ingredients. I may be wrong, of course, but I think these things are different... -

Here is an article about a current rulemaking considering requiring winemakers to list allergens on their labels. Open Original Shared Link In addition to fining agents such as egg, casein or fish, wheat-based glues are sometimes used to seal wine barrels. Whether these things end up in the final products is controversial. From what I can tell, the...
