  1. Candi.....I'd called Hidden Valley last fall and they told me that the regular ranch and buttermilk were definitely gluten free. I was still healing so I will have to try it again to confirm. I've actually been using Marie's (the really thick dressings) and diluting it with an oil and vinegar dressing. Marie's told me that ALL of their dressings are gluten...
  2. I love to read People but now that I am financially challenged, I go to the library rather than buy it. Almost all libraries should carry it since it's so popular. OR, you can go to Borders or Barnes and Noble and read it there in the cafe. I did that once and I felt guilty but I'm pretty sure it's perfectly allowed as I see people all the time reading mags...
  3. Oh Jokamo! Will you please post that recipe here? It sounds good and I'm always hungry! Would appreciate! Angel
  4. desert rat......just wondering......working as a pharmacist, don't you have to worry about all of the stuff that you touch all day long? I mean, I don't know how many pills actually have gluten in them, but I just thought to toss this forward as somewhere you may be getting gluten. All of my pills I check online for gluten or have the pharmacy call the manufacturer...
  5. I have been using Bausch and Lomb for hard contacts/gas permeable contacts (I still have the OLD hard contacts!) and don't seem to have a problem. Been getting better since taking antibiotics for 2 root canals in February. I can eat and go out in the car now. I have NOT yet called B & L and I guess you could say that I am living on a wing and a prayer...
  6. For me it was caffeine. I used to have what I called panic attacks (rages included for free) and I realized that when I gave up caffeine, they were 75% gone. Then when I went sugarfree, they were gone gone gone all gone. Well I'm bk on sugar now but I only get a caffeine pop at the maximum of once a week......and I don't usually do that. My "panic attacks...
  7. MJ25.....hi! I'm coming bk to ammend what I wrote the other day. I said that your boss couldn't ask for a 2nd opinion but I wasn't taking into consideration the size of your company. I worked for a very LARGE company and the FMLA stuff was handled by a separate dept. If that FMLA dept wasn't satisified with my doc's advice, I think that they could have...
  8. HI! I had FMLA fully approved for the full 12 weeks time the last 3 years that I worked for a major telecommunications company. Because we were unionized, I also received full pay for those FMLA days, per the bargaining the union had done previously with the company. I had my FMLA approved for Fibromyalgia. It listed pain, extreme exhaustion and very...
  9. Jerry.....sugar alcohols, such as sorbitol, mannitol and I can't remember all of the others, have been used for a long time for diabetics who want sweets. They have the same amount of calories as regular sugar but since the body absorbs the sugar alcohols more slowly, it was thought to be a safer choice for diabetics since it would ostensibly keep their...
  10. Congratulations Abygail! on getting to safely leave the house. That's HUGE! I had the same problem. Now I can even eat BEFORE going out. Even huger. And......just because I can?......I eat IN the car!
  11. The Celiac Diet is a great diet! Why in fact, my Celiac Belly Bloat went down so fast in one week or so, that it was like a pants size. And now I need a tummy tuck (from the sag) along with my belly button lift that I was hoping for! Okay, all joking aside. I went ahead and picked up the magazine. I was surprised (considering the source, as you say...
  12. I will have to locate that issue of the mag. I hate it when publications take a medical diet and make it into a celebrity lose all that weight issue. I know that you probably weren't actually looking for an answer to your question but I am one of the small percentage of Celiacs that has lost weight after going gluten free. And I am still getting my sugar...
  13. I feel like a bit of an idiot right now. I know the topic is "grain fed beef," but the last poster mentioned STRAW and that got me to thinking and wondering, what most straw if made of. So I googled it and it can be from any grain, including wheat, barley, oats, rice, etc......I hope that I'm not taking this topic too off thread but does anybody know where...
  14. Well, a bit later than these other postings but I just sent my request to Oprah's Show too. I also am not very fond of her anymore.....she pretty much does whatever she pleases/suits her. I had written a number of times years ago about covering Fibromyalgia and got a nasty reply. Perhaps this will turn out better. I haven't checked all of the postings yet...
  15. Ahhhhhh........you must be referring to The Pinball Machine......yes? I don't know what actually causes it (gas?) but with my progress on the gluten-free diet it has much diminished.....much. I call it The Pinball Machine because that's how it behaves......bing! ping! pong! and zing! as whatever it is rounds the curves......can you identify? I had to learn...
  16. Ah, venting.......how's this? Make some speshul donuts......put an extreme laxative in them and let them see what would happen to you if you ate their donuts. Okay, clearly I'm just joking....but it sure is fun to think about, isn't it? Ja, I'm bad, but the idea wasn't mine. Where I used to work, people would steal your food from the fridge. And mind...
  17. Sheesh.....I don't even want to THINK about dating and its ramifications. Maybe I could just place a personal ad as follows: Aging spinster of a certain age: cute and will make you laugh alot; picky eater....won't eat out and asks "what's in it" for every food, needs to tote along portopotty on date, reads Bible daily and has a home full of Teddy Bears...
  18. Ah, I still need to know where all of the restrooms are.....just in case....I can still have an, uh, sense of urgency that others don't have but even the timing of that has improved and I can wait longer than say 15 seconds. People used to think that I was nuts when I would rate where the best restrooms were.... they just didn't know why it was such a big...
  19. Ooooh this is just too bad! I am at the library and trying not to laugh too loudly at "potty humour" and hope that no one looks over my shoulder to see what I'm giggling about. Funny, but neither of my gastro docs (or even my GP whom I saw first) even asked me any of the all important, uh, quality questions.....or even how often a day I was "going".....
  20. Hi! As long as we're on the subject of CFS (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) and Fibromyalgia and trying to explain our conditions to other people, there's another cool website www.butyoudontlooksick.com where there is something called "The Spoon Theory" that explains to others what it's like to have a chronic painful etc illness. Having been dx with CFS 20 years...
  21. Hi Angel here again at the library....and again forgot my reading glasses. I am fiarly sure that ROLO's in the USA are gluten free. I have ingested them with no problem. I mean, isn't chocolate my booby prize for being Celiac? I will check when I go to the store today but again I don't have the aforementioned forgotten reading glasses with me. And...
  22. Hi Cynbd....I'm at the library again and just saw your question. I don't know for sure if the yeast overgrowth stuff is the same or not but I'm figuring that it is and not taking my chances. When I eat stuf with yeast in it, I get gas extroidanaire and also the amplified "pinball gut" effect......does anybody know what I mean about pinball machine in my...
  23. Yes, I know of two online companies that have told me that ALL of their products are gluten free. They are: www.andrearose.com www.cleure.com These two companies make their products strictly to be salicylate free for people that are on a Guafenesin therapy for Fibromyalgia. I called both recently and they told me that ALL of their products ARE GLUTENFREE...
  24. I just went to the edyslowchurned.com website and voted for Take the Cake! It's at 32% and the next closest is the cheesecake one which is NOT gluten free. Sooooooo.........if you like Take the Cake, please go and vote! The top voted for flavour they will make into a permanent flavour. For once our vote may actually count! Angel
  25. Thanks Savvvyseller for the tip. I would NEVER have checked any of the Edy's ice creams and certainly would not have thought that I would've liked a cake tasting one. I purchased Take The Cake and Choco 'N Roll Caramel and they are AWESOME! I can't decide which one I like the best. I DID have a reaction many hours later but I'm fairly sure that it was...
