  1. Have done 2 short stints of gluten-free (one was 2 weeks and one was a week). I felt better being off both gluten and dairy. Have to admit, I'm stumped.
  2. Just got a call from the GI and the results of the biopsy were normal. I asked how many samples he took, and she said, "Well, 4, just from the one spot". I thought they were supposed to take multiple samples from several different spots. So, now do I do the Enterolab thing? Is it worth the money? What do y'all think? I still believe that I have the...
  3. My husband has been in the navy for 19 years...I have to agree that they are pretty much clueless all around and I avoid them at all costs, but I do have to give credit to the military doctor who diagnosed my friend's daughter. Civilian doctors didn't have a clue what was wrong with her...she was so sick her teeth were turning grey. She was diagnosed immediately...
  4. Jerry, I swear you and I are kindrid spirits! My blood work also came back ridiculously low (but am not sure they ran the entire panel, and not sure the Quest knows what they're doing when it comes to celiac.), yet I know that I am at the very least gluten sensitive. I keep going on and off gluten (off when I feel like I don't care what the blood tests...
  5. Thanks, MamaGoose--you made my day! I just wanted to share all the information I have learned in the past month or so. I also want people to know that this is a safe place for them to get support, ask questions, talk about their poop, share experiences and frustrations and great stories....after all, no one even laughed at me when I didn't know what "CC...
  6. Welcome to the most informative place on earth for celiac disease! I've only been a member for a couple of weeks, but the information I have learned here has been incredible (far more from these people than from my doctor's office!). First off, yes, gluten can, and obviously has, wreaked complete havoc on your life. You are actually pretty lucky that...
  7. Hey, don't beat yourself up too badly...I had to ask a friend who is a veteran at this gluten free stuff, because I had read mixed things about spelt. I think it's an honest mistake, and you certainly will never forget it!! I figure every mistake we make like this is just one more to put down as a good old fashioned learning experience.
  8. Jerry, good to see you're still out there somewhere. I've been thinking about you and wondering if your test results were in yet...obviously not. I am still waiting for my endoscopy results too...it's been 10 days (though technically only 6 working days). I don't know why I'm so anxious...I think the biopsy is going to be negative anyway. But I guess...
  9. LittleZoe...thanks for the link. I found the article to be very interesting as I am awaiting the results of my biopsy (which I suspect will be negative). I was just diagnosed with a form of microscopic colitis and it certainly seems to fit right in there with gluten sensitivity, if not full-blown celiac disease. Dr. Fine does a good job of explaining the...
  10. Jerry, I'm right there with ya--still waiting for that biopsy result. Every time my phone rings I pick it up thinking it will be them. It's killing me! I also just did what your brother did--had lots of gluten for lunch thinking "Oh, it's probably all my imagination anyway--I'm really not gluten intolerant". I guess we'll see later today, won't we?...
  11. Thanks, Angie!
  12. So does anyone know what kinds of tortillas are gluten free? I'd love to add them back into my diet! Thanks, CL
  13. Ok, had no idea how totally loaded those 2 little letters were. Crap. So how do you manage not to get CC'd when you are the only one in the family with gluten issues and you still have to cook for the rest of the family?? PS--thanks for letting me in on the secret
  14. Please forgive my ignorance, but what is CC? It's been mentioned several times in this thread (which, by the way, has been a fascinating read). So what does it mean that I am feeling nothing but great after having been gluten free for--woo hoo--6 whole days (that was a sarcastic woo hoo, by the way)? It took a couple of days, but now that I'm off dairy...
  15. Cougar09, I totally understand your anxiety. I just had a colonoscopy 2 weeks ago and an endoscopy last Friday. I was dreading the colonoscopy and was TERRIFIED of the endoscopy. The colonoscopy was just fine--the prep sucks, and you will definitely have some gas afterwards (so make sure you get as much out as you can before you leave the hospital...
  16. I have to agree with celiacgirls...my blood work was negative and I don't have the biopsy results yet, but I've been gluten free since the test (a whole 5 days now!), and already I'm feeling better. Today I cut all dairy because I was still having some gas and diarrhea. I feel even better today than I did yesterday. I don't know if I'll ever be "diagnosed...
  17. Mine was about 8 days.
  18. Do you feel like this is consuming your life? I feel like every moment is spent thinking about the results, wishing they were faster, thinking about what can I eat that won't make me feel like sh$%, what DID I eat that made me feel like sh$%, trying to get answers to questions that no one knows, thinking about whether I should switch doctors, and on and...
  19. Love your name, sillyyak! Sorry to get off topic, just had to comment!
  20. It certainly sounds like your symptoms fit (not everyone with celiac has diarrhea, so you're not alone there)...have you had any tests yet? If you haven't, it's probably worth seeing your doctor and getting the bloodwork done; perhaps an endoscopic biopsy as well. You must have gluten in your system for the bloodwork to show positive. Enterolab (www...
  21. I guess I'm expecting a miracle to happen--so many people have said they noticed a difference immediately. But, everyone is different, so I suppose it may just take me a little longer. I keep wondering if I should cut out the dairy too.
  22. Have been gluten free for 4 days (but haven't given up dairy) and still am having the "big D" (very fatty and loose, not always explosive) and lots of gas. How long will this happen? I know it can take a while for the symptoms to alleviate, and I know I have damage to my large intestine (caused by a colitis associated with gluten sensitivity). So will...
  23. No, but I had been off gluten for a while when they did the test. I'm one of those that has many symptoms but my bloodwork was negative. I have been diagnosed with lymphocytic colitis, which hasd been linked to celiac. It's also an autoimmune disease and they think that it's the same genes cause both disorders. Dr. Fine (Enterolab) feels that gluten sensitivity...
