  1. Runnerjen, I'd encourage you to go to www.enterolab.com and look at the FAQ page--it talks a lot about gluten sensitivity and the fact that many people are sensitive without being full-blown celiac. Also go to www.glutensensitivity.net. That site also has some really pertinent information about it. I suspect you are like me--negative bloodwork and negative...
  2. Yes, gfp Steve...he had traveled to his mom's and found out he was getting glutened big-time at her house. The thread is still on this board somewhere. It's titled "urgent..."
  3. I'm completely in limbo right now--my first GI screwed up all my tests (including only taking one biopsy when he did my endo), so I'm waiting to see a new one, but can't get in until March 20th. I am waiting for my enterolab results, but it will probably be at least another week (they received my sample a week ago yesterday), if not more before I get...
  4. Just wondering if anyone has heard from Steve...it's been days since his last very disturbing post. I'm worried abou him and really thought he'd be back home by now. Steve, if you're out there, can you please let us know you're ok?
  5. I'm thinking that she and I will be Gluten-free Casein-free together and see what happens. It's so hard to see them going through this kind of stuff, especially at such a young age. BTW, they are 13, 10 and 7. I wouldn't think they would have different ranges since they are so close in age, but who knows why they do what they do. I guess I'm just a little...
  6. I got my kids' blood tests back today and they are all negative, which is great and terrible. Great because they most likely don't have celiac, but terrible because now we have figure out what in the world is causing my daughter's diarrhea (sounds just like me). My question is why there are different reference ranges for each of them for the serum IGA...
  7. Absolutely make sure they do multiple biopsies from multiple spots. I had an endoscopy that was a complete waste of time because they only took one biopsy because "everything looked normal". Unless the damage is significant, they won't be able to see anything with the scope. Usually they find the damage when looking microscopically at the biopsies. Also...
  8. Hugs, Steve...we're all here for you and will do what we can to help you through this. Sorry none of us can be there physically with you, but know we are there in spirit. You've gotten some good advice from your friends here--keep us posted on what's happening--we're all thinking about you. CL
  9. Happen to have La Choy regular and lite soy sauce in my cabinet. The regular is ok, the lite is not.
  10. Why soy yogurt? Is there something about regular yogurt that I don't know about?
  11. I actually had a doctor who actually recommended Enterolab to me! I'm trying to hang on until June when they will take my insurance. He firmly believes in Enterolab and that there is a whole iceberg under the tip of celiac that includes non-celiac gluten sensitivity. It's great to be validated. Good for you for taking your results with you!
  12. Hi John and welcome! This is a great place to ask questions, vent frustrations and share newfound knowledge. It's a great board and is very well informed--I've gotten more information from these people than I have my own doctor! Feel free to pop in any time.
  13. Jerseyangel, I have a question for you. I had blood work done that came back negative, however, I'm not sure what was done was right. I had two separate blood draws. The first was from my family physician's office and they did (as part of a general food allergy panel): gliadin AB (IGA,IGG) gliadin AB IGG They were both negative. Then, the GI...
  14. I have a question for you about teeth. I am going to have my kids tested for celiac since they also have a number of symptoms, one of which is severe discoloration of their teeth. My daughter's teeth are a very dark, dull, yellow/brown, almost grey (she's 13), and my son (10) has the same brown staining that my daughter does, though his actual color isn...
  15. If you have Whole Foods, Wild Oats, Vitamin Cottage, Wegmans, Trader Joe's...those are all good places. I know that a lot of people also buy their stuff online (like the flours, etc. that they buy in bulk--much cheaper that way). I haven't started doing that yet, so I don't know of good sites. Also, I've noticed that even in my regular grocery stores ...
  16. Michelle, I learned through my colonoscopy that I have lymphocytic colitis, which is a form of microscopic colitis that is often associated with celiac. I don't know how eating or not eating gluten may affect those results, but I thought it was worth mentioning. Once they saw that, they immediately scheduled me for the endoscopy to rule out sprue. Even...
  17. Let's see...I remember having a very detailed conversation with him before the procedure about what he thought was wrong with me and he specifically said, "I think you have celiac". Then afterwards (I don't remember much) he told my husband that the small intestine looked fine, but he did a biopsy anyway. I do remember asking him if he took multiple ones...
  18. Michelle--first have to tell you I laughed out loud when I saw your mood swing icon My problem seems to be I can't get one without the other. I KNOW I'm better off with neither, but haven't been very successful at doing it. I think the time has come, though... Hope everyone has a great weekend!
  19. I think I am having both gluten and dairy issues...the dairy definitely leaves me feeling gassy and rumbly. I am pretty sure I didn't have enough gluten in my system to register properly. Decided to do the Enterolab tests, though, which I suspect will show something that the blood work didn't. And it appears that the GI didn't take enough samples from...
  20. I just received the pathology report from my endoscopy and noticed a couple of things. They only biopsied the duodenum, and there were only 2 samples "totally submitted in one cassette". Does anyone know what this means? I'm thinking that they only took 2 samples from one area of the small intestine...my impression was that they were supposed to take ...
  21. Yep, you read it right. Negative blood work and negative biopsy...still trying to figure out if it's gluten that's getting to me, so I'm eating it right now and documenting my reactions. I guess I know the answer now.
  22. Had a (very small) hamburger and a milkshake for lunch today. Have felt like crap ever since then. So now I'm trying to decide if it was the gluten in the bun, the dairy in the milkshake or the fat in the hamburger that has left me with nausea, lightheadedness, dizziness, and an explosive intestine. Perhaps it was all three. I was just fine before I ate...
  23. Hi all...am looking for a good GI in the Denver area. Found one in Colorado Springs, but they don't take our insurance. So, the hunt is on! Can anyone recommend someone? Thanks!
  24. It doesn't make any sense to me why she was told, with positive bloodwork (do you know what her numbers are?), that she doesn't have celiac. And why would they do a colonoscopy and not an endoscopy? I think she needs to realize that she has the disease, and then she needs to get a new doctor! Definitely encourage her to come here and ask questions...
  25. Fair question, CarlaB. My symptoms include: chronic diarrhea, gas, bloating, mouth sores, fogginess, irritability, depression, lymphocytic colitis (highly associated with celiac), teeth problems, tingling in my hands and feet, floating stools (had a stool malabsorption test which came back at the very high end of normal (6.5 of 7), low cholesterol--120 ...
