  1. Do you know what the numbers are supposed to be?
  2. Jerry, you're such a good person to have on this board--I have learned a lot from you and the responses of others. Hopefully you will get the results before you leave for your cruise (lucky devil!). In any case, at least you are wise enough to know what makes you feel good! Thanks for asking the questions about the blood test. I just got a copy of my...
  3. Hey, at least you don't have to clean yourself out tonight by drinking that glop. Isn't that the truth!! Thanks, lm
  4. Thanks Richard and jmengert for your quick and thorough answers. I am still quite scared of the whole thing--had a colonoscopy last week and really reacted to something, think it was the sedative. But, as long as they put you to sleep, it should all be a piece of cake, right? (gluten free cake, of course!). I know it's just nerves, but I feel like everything...
  5. So my endoscopy is tomorrow (unless we get snowed in, that is--live in Denver where it's snowing again for the 7th week in a row!), and I have so many questions... Does it hurt? Will I feel anything? Will my throat be sore? Will I know anything tomorrow? Will they be able to see if there is any damage or do they have to look at it with a...
  6. Just got the results from my colonoscopy and I have "lymphocytic colitis". They were very vague on the phone--no details about what causes it, how to treat it, etc. They still want to do the endoscopy on Friday, which I'm pleased about (she mentioned looking for celiac specifically). So, my question is: has anyone been diagnosed with this? If so, is...
  7. Hi Courtney...just realized you are from WI. Where? I'm from the Milwaukee area originally...haven't lived there in 22 years, but my parents still do, so I go back to see them. I'm also struggling with the prospect of living without cheese (and ice cream and Kopp's custard, etc.)! Thanks for the journaling thoughts. I know I should be doing it, especially...
  8. Did they find anything on your endoscopy?
  9. I'm wondering if people journal their food intake, physical and mental reactions, etc. after eating gluten...I haven't been very good at doing it, even though I know it would probably help me diagnose the problem. I'm wondering how people know exactly what's related to gluten and what's not, what might be other factors (not enough sleep, eating too much...
  10. Hmmm...not sure what I just did...sorry. Anyway, my question is to you, Jerry. Do you always notice the feelings? How do you know they are related to gluten? I'm not questioning you, just wondering how would *I* know if it's related?
  11. Hi Sarah, I'm pretty new to all this as well, so my thoughts are not necessarily all exactly right. With that said, I believe that a week off gluten would not be long enough to get it all out of your system. I think that it takes much longer than that. The blood tests may show something, or may not. I know of plenty of people who have had negative...
  12. I keep wondering if I should do the same. How long does it take to get them? How long for the results? Do they take credit cards?
  13. Wow--you learn something new every day on this board! I had no idea that the inflammation meant trouble. It's good to know since I'm going in this week for my endoscopy. Thanks!
  14. Chris, have you tried going off gluten to see if your symptoms resolve themselves? There are so many symptoms of celiac that are not GI-related--such as the ones you mention. What about bloodwork? You mention the tests, but no bloodwork (though I'm new to the boards, so perhaps you had some done last year). Have you had any done recently? Sorry, I...
  15. I just had to post this morning. Always had a problem with not digesting certain foods (corn, for example), but never lettuce. Until today! Last night's dinner was there--including the lettuce. I have been eating lots of gluten to prepare for the endoscopy, and I swear things are getting worse the more gluten I eat. I can't wait to go off of it again...
  16. I, too, have to wonder if it runs in my family. My grandmother died of colon cancer and my mother has had GI issues for years. I plan to be gene tested and also have my kids tested. It can't hurt, but it certainly can help prevent future problems...
  17. I had just started to be gluten free right before Christmas (maybe 2 weeks I was off), and then started to put the pieces together and figure out that my problems may truly be gluten related, so I went back on in preparation for the endoscopy. I guess I really haven't been off long enough, but I certainly did feel better while I was off of it. It will be...
  18. So when does it happen for you? Right away? Does it take hours? How do you know it's related?
  19. Sorry for the topic, but I have a question to put out there. I'm wondering when other people's diarrhea occurs (or occured before you were dx'd) when eating gluten. Is it any time? Just after meals? Middle of the night? How long does it last? Is there any rhyme or reason to it? I'm eating gluten to prepare for the endoscopy this week. Am off dairy...
  20. I was under the impression that they can only see the damage done to the small intestine, since that it what celiac primarily affects. Having just had a colonoscopy this week, I highly recommend that you not have one unless you or your doctor think it's absolutely necessary. The colonoscopy isn't going to help with a celiac diagnosis. I say that if you...
  21. What about brown staining? My kids and I have had it forever, and no dentist has ever been able to figure out why (we move around a fair amount). They all ask, "Do they drink coffee, tea, soda? What else do they eat?" They don't drink any of those things and we can't come up with any other explanation...The stains come off when their teeth are cleaned...
  22. You know there are dairy-free chocolates out there! They are more expensive, but they do exist. Also, I have made several dairy-free chocolate desserts in the past few weeks that are quite delicious. Happy to share if you need more info!
  23. Hi CAS221...I find myself in a similar situation to you. I just joined last weekend because I'm finding I really need the support that seems to be here. Whether officially diagnosed or self diagnosed, the people here seem really supportive and knowlegeable. I am in the middle of testing to see what's going on with me because I, too, have the stomach...
  24. I know--I asked about an endoscopy and she said no, she wanted to do a colonoscopy first. Like I mentioned, she's stuck on the IBS dx. I've called them 3 times since the middle of last week to get results for the celiac bloodwork and I can't get anyone to call me back or give me any information about it. I'm very frustrated with this practice. I'm thinking...
