  1. Mmmm...that pecan pie sounds delicious! Can't wait to try it!
  2. I've only made the french bread once, and it was a bit tricky (the dough is very sticky and hard to handle), but we liked it. My gluten eating family thought it was great.
  3. Thanks, Floridanative--they sound great. Pedro, I just posted a bunch of kid-friendly recipes on the baking thread--cookies, cakes, muffins, etc. Check them out, I haven't tried a bad one yet! CL
  4. Here are a bunch of really good recipes that all kids will like--gluten free or not! Sorry--going back and looking at it, it didn't put the spaces in between the ingredients, so you just have to read them carefully. Enjoy! Chocolate Chip Cookies
  5. Mmmm....how about that recipe? They sound delicious!
  6. You know, Helena, I keep wondering to what extent I need to go with the new utensils, pans, cutting boards, etc. I've read anectdotally often that this needs to happen, that gluten sticks to everything, but I've never actually seen any research to suggest that it does. I'm not doubting anyone, I'm just wondering aloud about the cross contamination issues...
  7. And here's a fabulous potato salad. I always wait until the very end to toss with the dressing, then sprinkle with onion and bacon. Picnic Potato Salad 4 cups red potatoes -- diced, skins on 1/3 cup sour cream 1/3 cup mayonnaise 1 teaspoon...
  8. Fudge! Here's my favorite recipe: Betsy's Fudge 32 marshmallows -- (regular size) 1/4 cup water 2 1/2 cups sugar 5 ounces evaporated milk 1 stick margarine 1/4 teaspoon salt 3/4 package semisweet chocolate...
  9. Ptkds...I think you have hit a nerve here with many of us! I'm sorry you've been having such a rough time. Have you checked all of your cosmetics, shampoos, lotions, pet food, soaps, condiments, etc? Those things can all be hidden sources of gluten and even though you are not ingesting them directly, you could inadvertantly be digesting them. I also get...
  10. I get terrible canker sores and have my whole life until I went gluten free. The one time I've had gluten since, I got 3 of them that lasted about a week. It was good to find out the cause of them--now I don't get them at all any more!
  11. I hope he can help you as well. I think he's very open minded when it comes to the diagnoses. It certainly seems like you have a case for an official diagnosis. Good Luck!
  12. Thanks for that link, since we need to stay informed about things like this. However, we should all be aware that the article that you provided a link to appears to be a heavily-edited version of the original article that came from The American Chemical Society. If you go to the American Chemical Society site, and locate the original article, it presents...
  13. Will do! Actually, I was a little disappointed--I sent him an email after I had been there and got an automated response back. He's gotten sooo busy that he had to hire someone to help him answer them. Guess it just goes to show that we're in good company--just way too much of it!
  14. Tom, I have to remember that one!! It's great--I actually laughed out loud! Mamatide--I agree 1000%--more people should not only be looking at what they're eating, but probably not eating most of it anyway! My favorite is my MIL, who baked a loaf of bread with the plastic wrap on. I was letting it rise and asked her to put it in oven for me while...
  15. Hmmm...I get it all--GI stuff, mouth sores, brain fog, lack of energy, depression, nasty irritability. I think my husband wanted to divorce me last time I got glutened!
  16. Gail, welcome, welcome! It's so nice to have you here. This place has been a lifeline for me--I spend WAY too much time reading, posting, lurking, commenting! It's a bit addictive, I must say (guess I just don't want to miss anything!). What kind of food are you looking for? I am a foodie too! I have some great recipes--many for gluten free...
  17. Susan, Welcome to the boards--glad you have come out of the shadows and are here posting! This is a great place to get support for gluten and other dietary sensitivities--it seems like many of us have more than one! It's great that not only did your co-workers notice, but they acted upon what they saw! You are in a rare spot to have people be...
  18. That's so sweet! I have a friend who always calls me when she sees something gluten free that she thinks I can have. It's a very alienating disease, and because it's lifelong, people tend to forget after a while. And the fact that they were even good, to boot, is huge!!
  19. I definitely will--it's only been a couple of months, but I really do feel like the day I went off gluten was the day I regained my life. I feel better now than I have for the past 20 years. I love the idea of celebrating going gluten free!
  20. I think my trigger was stress, though now that I've been diagnosed, it's pretty clear that it's been around forever. The combination of moving often (my husband's in the navy), huge stresses with his job, the colitis--I think it all just came to a head last fall, which is when I started pursuing this aggressively. I remember in college going to our...
  21. Colazal is also used in the treatment of microscopic colitis (both collegeneous and lymphocytic). It is a poorly absorbed steroid that is supposed to help with the inflammation of the intestinal lining. I'm wondering if they are merely trying to get control of the symptoms for you. Obviously it won't help the celiac, but it will help the symptoms go...
  22. It is hard, isn't it? I try really hard not to wig out whenever someone sticks their crumbly knife back into the butter or the peanut butter, or cuts their bread and leaves crumbs everywhere (trying to stock up on my own items so that doesn't happen). I really want ot scream at them, but I don't think it's fair. On the other hand, if I don't get it into...
  23. I know I'm coming into this thread a little late in the game, but I'm so glad to have this addressed. It can be a huge issue for people--you don't want to feel like you're stretching the truth, but I have found that it is so much easier to say "celiac" than go through the whole gluten intolerance bit and explain to people how it feels, what the symptoms...
  24. Kimberly, I'm so sorry you're feeling so poorly! It just stinks to be doing everything right and then not have it work for you. I'm wondering if there are hidden sources of gluten that you might be ingesting accidentally. It can be in everything from toothpaste to lotions and shampoos and costmetics to the envelopes we lick. A lot of people will...
  25. T-Bird...I am relatively new to this, too, and it definitely can be overwhelming! This site has a very comprehensive list of what is ok and what is not. If you go to the site index, the 8th item down is a safe and forbidden food list. It even lists things that might be ok in the US, but not other countries and why. I guess I feel pretty comfortable using...
