  1. I stick with name brand because I know it's gluten free. I'd verify the type of starch used in the walgreen's and target brands before using. It's most likely corn but it can be wheat.
  2. Beef Broth can have barley in it so check the label. Pacific is a good brand. BBQ sauce can have wheat in it so read the label. Sweet Baby Rays is a good brand. Malt Vinegar is not gluten-free. Chocolate can have barley in it so read the label. Don't recall seeing a salsa with gluten in it but it wouldn't hurt to read the label.
  3. Congratulations Tiffany! Love the name!

    ARCHIVED Taco Mac

From the Atlanta Metro Celiacs list: "They have a complete Nutritional listing of their products that shows gluten/non gluten content." They don't have a specific gluten free menu and you'll still need to verify potential cross contamination but you should be able to find out about the sauce.
  5. Airline meals are hit or miss so always bring a little stash of food. I had a 16 hour flight once without any meals because they didn't load them and I forgot to ask the flight attendants to check when I got on the plane. That was fun. Another time I was served corn flakes for breakfast and the tray was clearly labeled gluten-free. It is mostly an issue...
  6. There really aren't any options near Young Harris so the suggestions of packing everything is your best bet. There is an Ingles Market in Blairsville. They carry a lot of gluten free items. It varies by location so I'm not sure what they have but you can usually find Glutino crackers, Pamela's cookies, etc. You can find their gluten-free lists here...
  7. Ireland is the most celiac friendly country in the world. Everyone knows what it is and even the smallest restaurants can accomodate you. Most restaurants have options on the menu and many have gluten-free bread. If it's not on the menu all you have to do is ask the wait staff if it's safe for celiacs and they can tell you. The soups are awesome - I only...
  8. Most? Try none Especially when the Patron comes out. Life is too short to sit on the ground with migranes. Give it a whirl and get your butt back in the air! The gluten-free thing is really as easy or hard as you make it.
  9. I still buy the beer because they expect it. I drink tequila and never had anyone pass up a shot.
  10. I am serious. In fact, I would recommed Ireland for a first trip because it's that friendly. Most menus have celiac notations and if they don't all you have to do is ask and they can tell you right away. There is very little processed food there so when they say it's OK it's OK. I walked into a fish fry in a small coastal town and the owner steamed fish...
  11. Ireland is the most celiac friendly country I've been to - every pub, restaurant and cafe has a gluten-free menu.
  12. Welcome Nightingale! We've all been where you are now. Getting this diagnosis is a life changing event and can be a difficult adjustment but it beats suffering every day. There was a time when I did not know a day without pain. Now I rarely take a tylenol. Changing my diet was a very small price to pay to get my life back. You can travel and you can...
  13. I always read the label but have only seen one that had gluten - Farmer John's contains regular soy sauce.
  14. I would politely and professionally say something like I have a few food allergies do you mind if we go somewhere that can accomodate me? Then I would ask what's in the area and select something with a gluten-free menu or offer to check a few places out and get back to her. Chances are they'll say something like oh I have a friend who has allergies so I...
  15. Thanks! I'll check them out and let you know. I do have my heart set on a big lumpy crab cake though and would love to find one.
  16. Mine felt weird because it didn't hurt. The first few times I ate gluten-free pizza were very strange. Is it weird because it hurts or weird because it just feels different?
  17. Everything in our house is gluten-free and guests (evening and overnight) eat gluten-free when they are visiting. We tried to be flexible with guests but it just didn't work as they often don't understand enough and it really stinks to have to fully disinfect the house every time. Plus, my home should be the one place I can eat anything anytime without...
  18. I'm not sure about the UK but gluten in toothpaste is not an issue in the US. This thread is 6 years old and I think there was a lot of discussion about Sensodyne toothpaste back when this thread originated - I'm not sure if it was every concretely proven to contain gluten. Celiacs have loads of dental problems so it could just be your mouth adjusting...
  19. I've had good success cooking the pasta for 2 minutes. Not pre-cooking makes it a little crunchy and fully cooking it makes it mush. I've also found that if the sauce is too watery the pasta gets mushy no matter what I do or don't do.
  20. I'll be in Annapolis and Baltimore in the very near future. I desperately want crabcakes! Suggestions?
  21. Juice Plus is a multi-level marketing program. Chances are your doctor is also a rep and gets a commission. It's frightfully expensive and you should be able to get the same results with a high quality gluten-free vitamin (for a fraction of the price). I am fairly certain the company doesn't claim any of their products to be entirely gluten-free although...
  22. Look what I ran across in the New York Times: Open Original Shared Link It's our very own Ken Love!
  23. I am pretty sure the spices are McCormick. I use the garlic powder and ground pepper without issue. Not sure about the minced onions.
  24. Have you had your thyroid and iron stores checked (ferritin, etc. not just hemoglobin from the CBC)? I associate those symptoms with anemia or hypothyroidism.
  25. I don't think Costco keeps a gluten-free list. Most Kirkland products are just rebranded mainstream products so you'd have to know if the name brand is gluten-free. For example, Kirkland bacon is Hormel and gluten-free. If you have questions about specific products let us know and we can likely help you out.
