ARCHIVED Sweet & Sour Sauce
MaryJones2 replied to Wakeboarder's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
San-J makes a line of gluten free asian sauces. I think sweet and sour is one of them. I get them at my small town grocery store so you should be able to find them just about anywhere. -
ARCHIVED Response To Outback That I Copied From Reader's Digest
MaryJones2 replied to minniejack's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Minniejack, Please reread my reply. I was not referring to the Savannah Outback location. I am not connected to the company in any way. I just don't think it's appropriate to bash all Outbacks because you had two bad experiences in two plus years at one location. We all eat out at our own risk. Mistakes are bound to happen. I am merely suggesting... -
ARCHIVED Bertolli Vodka Sauce
MaryJones2 replied to glutenfreemamax2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Not sure about that one but Classico is labeled gluten-free and that's what we use. -
ARCHIVED Response To Outback That I Copied From Reader's Digest
MaryJones2 replied to minniejack's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I had the pleasure of going on a sightseeing tour in Savannah with about two dozen Outback managers and a regional manager for the southeast recently. Outback is very committed to serving the celiac community and spend quite a bit of time and money on training. Please contact Outback's corporate headquarters if you are having a problem with a particular... -
ARCHIVED Cookbook Christmas List
MaryJones2 replied to bincongo's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Cruise the internet bookstores for cookbooks by Annalise Roberts, Bette Hagman, Carol Fenster, Connie Sarros and Jules Shepherd. Those authors tend to get great reviews. -
ARCHIVED Nature's Own Gluten Free Bread
MaryJones2 replied to TrillumHunter's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yeah. I was shopping at the Kroger in Rome and just saw it within the past 7 days. I contacted the company and got this response. I really hope they aren't pricing themselves out of the market. They have a good thing going but the price...yuck. I can get Udi's for $4.50 and I wasn't interested in switching but it's 40% less. Thank you for contacting... -
ARCHIVED Nature's Own Gluten Free Bread
MaryJones2 replied to TrillumHunter's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
So I've been eating Nature's Own gluten-free bread all summer and absolutely loving it. It was always a little expensive at Kroger - $5.49 for a loaf with about 15 pieces - but this week the price jumped to $7.99. Anyone else in Atlanta see a price jump? Needless to say I'm extremely disappointed and won't pay that for their bread no matter how great... -
ARCHIVED Bagels
MaryJones2 replied to AlysounRI's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yes, you can buy them in stores across the country. Not sure if any of the large chains carry them though. I think there is a list on their website somewhere. -
If you had a reaction to one of Amy's products and still have the package please call the company. They'll retest that batch for gluten and let you know the results.

ARCHIVED Bagels
MaryJones2 replied to AlysounRI's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've tried all the brands mentioned here and still think Joan's gluten-free Great Bakes out of NY makes the best bagel. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Soups
MaryJones2 replied to Spartans1960's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
The progresso soups that are gluten free are labeled so and there are quite a few. The Gluten Free label isn't always in the same place on the label though -
I use Guerrero and Mission brands never had any problems with either. I also make corn tortillas with a cast iron press using Maseca corn flour.

ARCHIVED Vodka Sauce... Anyone Know If It's Safe?
MaryJones2 replied to corianderseed's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Classico Vodka Sauce is labled gluten free if that helps. I've used it several times without issue. -
ARCHIVED Feeling Like A Fraud
MaryJones2 replied to sherrylynn's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Your experience is quite common and very frustrating. Over time you'll learn to ignore them. The saddest thing about your experience is that these are medical professionals and they are obviously ignorant about a very common condition. Their lack of compassion is also very disturbing. -
ARCHIVED To Go To China Or Not ... Help!
MaryJones2 replied to Emilushka's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Shanghai is great. Assume Beijing would also be friendly. There is a local ex-pat support food allergy group there that can give a list of several restaurants. I think it's a Yahoo group. One of the large American hotels (Hyatt I think) makes gluten free bread that you can buy. There is also a grocery store chain called City Shop that carries western... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Get Sore Mouth After Eating Oats?
MaryJones2 replied to Ellymay's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Well if the oats were not certified gluten free then that's the first issue and likely the cause of your problems. Also, some celiacs just can't tolerate oats at all so that may also be the issue. Hope that helps. -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Had Ovarian Cysts After Going Gluten Free?
MaryJones2 replied to azagave's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Have you been tested for PCOS? That is often the cause of frequent cysts. If you have PCOS there are other non-birth control drugs that you can take to help. -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Had Ovarian Cysts After Going Gluten Free?
MaryJones2 replied to azagave's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Birth control will help reduce the occurance ovarian cysts. Is that something that you are open to or is there a reason your Dr. isn't treating cysts (or offering this as a treatment) this way? -
ARCHIVED Cream Of Mushroom Soup...but Needs Tweeking
MaryJones2 replied to Marilyn R's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Can you do soy? If so try soy milk. Here's one that I've used in the past: 10 oz. mixture of button, chestnut, s$#&ake, portabello, etc. mushrooms 1 tbsp olive oil 3 tbsp butter (can use dairy free margarine) 1 small onion, finely diced 1 tbsp cornstarch (mixed with a bit of water) 2 cups chicken stock (or vegetable - Pacific and Kitchen Basics... -
ARCHIVED Should I Keep A Food Diary?
MaryJones2 replied to jester's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Absolutely! And don't just look at what you ate last. Take a look back a few days and see if you can see patterns there too. Sometimes reactions are delayed and it may not necessarily be the last thing you ate. Good luck! -
ARCHIVED Amy's Mexican Rice Bowls
MaryJones2 replied to sherrylynn's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think they've gotten a lot better with their production. I eat the mac and cheese and rice crust pizzas all the time without issue. Don't do anything with beans b/c I don't tolerate beans well so I can' t comment on them. -
I'd recommed Dr. William McClatchey at Piedmont Physicians. He's a GP but can order any GI tests you need and is very well versed in celiac. Great if you are looking for someone to manage your condition(s). Harry Delcher in Dunwoody is also worth his weight in gold! He doesn't accept insurance but you can file for reimbursement.

ARCHIVED Fries- Fast Food Chains
MaryJones2 replied to munchkinette's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I eat Five Guys Fries and bunless burgers all the time. Pretty sure they are in HI. Everything is safe there except the bun. The burgers are cooked on a seperate grill so as far as fast food goes there is very little chance of CC. Chick Fil A is the only other place I'll eat fries. -
The original post is from 2004 - McCann's is not gluten free (50 PPM) and not safe for celiacs. Per their website: Are McCann's Oat products gluten free? In the supply chain between farm and mill, there is a possible cross contamination with other grains, such as wheat and barley but we reckon that the level of non-oat grains to be less than 0.05%...
