  1. I have a very active toddler who literally seems incapable of listening to directions at times. "No" is a word she uses, but she does not stop when you tell her "No". Telling her No is more like a personal challenge. That being said, my problem is that I have dogs and I live in a hot climate. The dogs live and eat inside. It is not an option for the dogs...
  2. I think Glutino makes crackers that are like Ritz crackers. BTW, I wouldn't wait too long before ensurign that all cosemtics etc are also gluten-free. I react to contact. Maybe its an allergy too who knows. But if you are going through the effort to be gluten-free, clear up are the questions about cosmetics, bathroom supplies, lotions, etc that way you give...
  3. Just an FYI, call Bob Evans and talkto someone knowledgable about the food. I recently found out that my local Bob Evans home fries arrive seasoned, the chicken arrives frozen with dairy items (my kid is allergic to dairy). I left that day eating an awful burger patty and small side of fruit, and still hungry. I won't be back any time soon.
  4. Hi Kirsten, I feel your pain...I have young kids too. I think of celiac reactions as several levels: contamination, contact, ingestion of large amounts. My first indicator that I have a contamination reaction is the yelling. I hate the person I become at that point and try hard to shut my mouth and bite my tongue, but that is VERY hard to do with young...
  5. Hi Kassandra, I'd be interested to hear what your dr said about the issues you were having. You listed that you are tree nut free. Not sure if that is an allergy or you just are skipping tree nuts for another reason. As an FYI, my child has a peanut allergy. Her 1st reaction was hives and swelling of her face and mouth area. She now has an TwinJect (epi...
  6. Hi Jen, I think you are going to be a little shocked in the ways that you feel better and never knew anything was wrong. The first few months of going gluten-free my moods were stable and I felt better than I had ever felt in my life. That feeling spills over into other areas of your life. So some of the changes will be great others changes may be hard...
  7. You are in a tough spot. I know I have heard of people who are diagnosed late in life on their first colonoscopy! No signs and no symptoms, but a full blown Celiac. I would say if the biopsy showed flattening of the villi, you have a celiac. She might be one of the lucky/unlucky ones who doesn't get classic symptoms for a reaction. I would see an allergist...
  8. My two yr olds allergic reaction is a skin rash that lasts for days if not a week. The itchies are so intense she wakes up all night long crying about the itchies. The only place she got the rash is her feet/ankles & diaper rash area. No medication ever helped and we tried a lot! Her rash is tiny pin head like red spots that are insanely itchy. Her scratching...
  9. lol...hi obstinant one! Good luck on the test results. Waiting is maddening! The drs office should be able to give you test results over the phone to tell you if it is celiacs, inconclusive, or not at all a celiac. Did you have any gene testing done? That can help if the test results are inconclusive. I have five food allergies spread between three...
  10. Here are a few random thoughts. Maybe one of them might help At that age my picky eaters loved deli ham, grits - with buter (dairy free vegan butter like stuff) and sugar (make very sweet), apple sauce, bananas. My kids still refuse baked potatoes, but some kids love them. Mix dry formula in with a hot baked potato. Or mix any pureed fruit or veggie...
  11. Hi, Yes, my blood work was negative and my scope was "text book celiac" positive biopsy. I think diagnosing kids has got to be the hardest. My youngest is 2.5 and she has been blood tested and scoped. The scope was inconclsuive. So after months of dairy free helping but not making her better, she is now gluten-free/CF and seems to be doing better. Actually...
  12. I'm a mix kinda girl Have you checked out CherryBrooke Kitchen mixes? They have mixes that are great! gluten-free, dairy free, egg free, nut free and it still tastes great. My super picky non-celiac child gorges on the cake.
  13. Hi, I lost mine too! At least you have one less organ that the drs can claim is causing you problems Anyway, the pain the got me the worst was in my shoulder blades. They put some gas into your abdomin to do the laparoscopy (assuming you had the belly button surgery). The best way to make the pain stop is to move around. It is the very last thing you...
  14. In case you were not able to come up with an answer for the Lactaid question...I wanted to add a note about the cake and ice cream. My kids love the regular (contains wheat) and gluten-free versions of Cherry Brooke Kitchen chocolate cake. It is dairy free and nut free which fits our needs. They have a frosting too. And my 2 yr old LOVES Tofutti brand chocolate...
  15. Hi, I can offer my one safe meal. My family LOVES chinese food. We eat out at the local place maybe once a week. I always order "Steamed chicken and veggies with white rice - NO SAUCE" They are used to me now. I bring a small container of sauce with me. Sometimes it is plain soy sauce, sometimes left over sweet and sour sauce, and sometimes BBQ. Basically...
  16. Hi, I recently went to Lee Roy Selmans restaurant by accident. Looked like a nice enough place so I asked if they had ever heard of a gluten-free menu. The host perked right up and said Yes, we have one I'll be right back. Great menu selection on the gluten-free menu. The food was GREAT!!! BBQ sauce and salad dressing too!!! The server explained that they...
  17. That's really great! I'm jealous It's nice to hear when people try so hard to include this diet in their plans for parties and big events like babies! Hope you are feeling well the last few weeks are exhausting
  18. You should be able to call the state Insurance department and ask them questions. Not sure if you want to ask annonymously. Your insurance carrier should also be able to tell you what happens when you reach your limit. Do they increase your rates? Cancel your policy? What are your options once you are unable to purchase this medication? Can you Dr give you...
  19. In addition to the Celiac testign you may want to look into food allergy testing. The allergists generally do not like to test infants, but you have some issues that might make them reconsider. If food touching skin causes a reaction, I would have an allergist test the child. BTW, You want to make sure your child eats Gluten daily until the tests. However...
  20. I don't see why you really need a test to prove you have Celiacs if you were diagnosed as a child? Just start in on the diet. Write down all of your sysmptoms, health issues, etc. even the ones not related to Celiacs. Then start in on the diet. You will see positive changes soon. I would have a dr check you for defiences. If you really need something to prove...
  21. I think there are some free translation sites you could go to. Write a brief blurb about Celiacs and what you need to avoid and see if you can get a translation on one of those sites. The problem is sometimes these translations aren't 100% accurate. Another option is your college may have a Japanese class? The teacher might be able to help you translate...
  22. ummm...actually the disablity act does cover Celiacs and food allergies. We have both in our family and both are covered under the 504.
  23. Prepare to want to die if you get glutened during PMS or period. That is the worst!
  24. Yup, my kindergartener played the "food allergy" card last year. She is smart and knows how to work the system. She wanted to be home with mommy. I had a discussion with the teacher about her "not allowed to EVER lie about her allergy." We discussed the "other" issues that could be going on. (missing home) Turns out after involving the teacher, who was awsome...
  25. I don't know about the Irish in Ireland, but I'm Irish and I'm a hard alcohol person - never liked beer. Wine is ok. Vodka is first choice. Followed by rum. Mixers just depend on the mood. If I go out to a bar, Bacardi rum and coke is a safe standby. Well liquors are out, but I have a list of my favorite call brands
