ARCHIVED Eating With People
gfgypsyqueen replied to cinnamonroll's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well...I'm am big on calling the restaurant during off hours and talking to the manager. See if they have a gluten-free menu first. Find a way to explain that you have Celiacs without makingf it terrifying to them (legally). What I mean is if you explain Celiacs wrong, they might be terrified that if ANYTHING goes wrong you will die, need and ambulance, etc... -
ARCHIVED Few More Questions Now My Toddler Is Gluten Free...
gfgypsyqueen replied to kellyanna-99's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Both of my kids had excema of sorts. Neither respond to any of the medications they were prescribed. Turns out the oldest gets the excema from milk (she is now milk free). The youngest had terrible itchy rashes all over her legs, feet, and soemtimes torso. The combination of gluten-free/CF makes all of her rashes go away. Now she announces when the itchies... -
ARCHIVED Can't Figure Out What's Wrong With Our Baby
gfgypsyqueen replied to TalyQ's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Wow...you have a lot going on! You have been through the early years of babies enough to know if something is not right with your child. If you feel it is not right, pursue testing as much as you can. Test to eliminate diseases and other things before just assuming Celiacs. First, if you want to nurse, then aim for that goal. Nursing is good for the babies... -
Have you tried calling the Restaurant Manager or General Manager at Whole Foods yet? You may be able to arrange a safe meal to be prepared that day and kept in the back for you? Good luck.

ARCHIVED My 2-year-old Celiac Just Developed Dh
gfgypsyqueen replied to amylopan's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have an itchy almost three year old. I have not been able to get the official medical proof of Celiac or DH. But is responds to the gluten-free/CF diet, so she is a Celiac. She may have additional allergies too, so we are trying to get to an allergist to rule those out before more Gastro work. She gets a terrible itchy rash on her legs and feet. It doesn... -
ARCHIVED Could It Be Celiacs?
gfgypsyqueen replied to RainyZ's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi, Sounds like the problems we had a little while ago Your baby sounds like a Celiac. I have an almost three yr old that lost 40+ percentages at her 9mth check up. Told not to worry. NOt Celiacs. The diarrhea started, the gas, big belly, terrible moods... by her two yr old bday she was still in 12 mth old clothes, hadn't grown at all, never... -
Another option is to put up a sign at the local allergists office or talk to your Dr and Gastro to see if they can give your name out to parents. (Learn what questions to ask parents with food allergic kids, ask the allergist office if you can watch a video on TwinJect and Epi-pen or have one of them train you.) PM me if you want more info. In my case...

gfgypsyqueen replied to madwick's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
There's a Richard's Health food stores in Tyrone area. (Close to where you'll be) I stock up there when I am in the area. Love the place. I would guess they could special order any foods you need prior to your arrival if needed. Let me know if you have trouble finding the info online and I'll track it down. I don't go to St Pete that much so I am not... -
ARCHIVED Please Help! Am I Confused, Or Have I Been Misdiagnosed On Some Level?
gfgypsyqueen replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, First, it is late and I think I am following you clearly. Get a copy of your test results and people on the site can help you a little better knowing the exact tests and results If you have been eating gluten free, any blood work and celiac testing results will NOT be accurate. While eating Gluten free the damage to your intestines is healing... -
ARCHIVED Chicken
gfgypsyqueen replied to dbmamaz's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Tysons frozen chicken does not have any gluten. I've called to clarify that one. Purdue I think it was only certain frozen chicken did not have gluten. Can't remember. Actually, a bigger problem for me has been the number of times I find dairy/casein as an added hidden ingredient in the chicken. That has me very depressed. My youngest is extremely... -
ARCHIVED I'm So Confused....
gfgypsyqueen replied to celiac-mommy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Actually the allergy to wheat affects the histamine levels in your body. The Celiac reaction to wheat affects the cells in your intestines - nothing to do with histamines. I think I have both wheat allergy and celiacs. Never been tested for the wheat allergy. But, since going gluten-free, if I touch a glutne product, my hands swell, crack open, and bleed... -
ARCHIVED Questions About Infant(13month Old) Testing
gfgypsyqueen replied to 4blessings's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
No one wants to have this disease or any other. But the positive side is that Celiacs does not require daily medicine and so there are no drug side effects. The diet gets easy pretty quickly. Once she is gluten-free and growing well, you'll feel better. I don't want this disease, nor do I want my kids to have it, but we are lucky it is not something worse... -
ARCHIVED Food Intolerances
gfgypsyqueen replied to newceliac's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I am not 100 sure about this. I think an allergist can only tell if you are allergic to an item. They measure the histamine levels to determine if you are allergic. There is a blood test. That might tell you more. My daughter is gluten-free/CF and it is not as bad as you think. She is extremely sensitive too. Once you get comfortable with the names to... -
ARCHIVED Accidental Glutening List
gfgypsyqueen replied to kenlove's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
One of the worst glutenings was from my vitamins. I had taken these vitamins before and they were always gluten-free. Well, one day I went to buy more vitamins and picked up the same one I had used for at least a year. My eyes have changed just enough that I can't read tiny print without my glasses. I tried to readthe label just to be safe, but I couldn't... -

ARCHIVED Does Gluten Affect Your Depression?
gfgypsyqueen replied to Stacey G's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I get the intestinal issues for a few days. But the mood swings last a solid week before starting to go back to normal. The first week is HORRIBLE! The depression type problem takes longer to go away for me - like several weeks. Depending on what got me, as in a contamination issue or a gluten in the food, makes a big difference in my reaction. You could... -
ARCHIVED New Chili's In Millville, Nj
gfgypsyqueen replied to Joni63's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Glad to hear your Chili's has good gluten-free knowledge. I have just sworn off Chili's. I have gotten sick from them, had to return food more times than not, etc. At this point I just do not trust any Chili's and will go just about anywhere to avoid theplace. We went over the weekend. My burger came out right, but the sides were wrong. My daughters entire... -
ARCHIVED I'm So Confused....
gfgypsyqueen replied to celiac-mommy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Two yr olds are so much fun My two yr old went Gluten-free Casein-free in August. She had her first solid poop pretty quickly after that. I mean her first in her two yrs of life! She has picked up the idea that she can't eat just anything. And yes, she is also that high strung, "no" does not apply to her, and if in doubt - lick it- kinda kid. Sounds... -

ARCHIVED Developing Diabetes After Celiacs
gfgypsyqueen posted a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Curious if anyone can help me out with how they found out about their diabetes after having Celiacs. As in, symptoms that made them persue testing. Or at least point me in the right direction for research. Everything I have read is very vague. I'm having some problems and wanted to ask all of you first before watching my Dr make the "Yup, she a hypochondriac... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Diease And Anaphylactic Nut Allergy?
gfgypsyqueen replied to JJJ's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My family is in a similar position. My oldest has an anaphylactic nut allergy. No peanuts or tree nuts or shared equipment products. She also is extremely lactose intolerant. My youngest is a celiac, dairy allergy, shellfish allergy, egg allergy is suspect, and she can't have nuts due to sibling anaphylactic allergy. I just have Celiacs. So although... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Diary Free
gfgypsyqueen replied to Worriedtodeath's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have to agree...removing the dairy is a bugger! One health food store employee finally gave me the easy start method...look for Vegan dairy substitutes. If it says Vegan it CANNOT contain dairy, casein, whey, or any of those other names I couldn't remember. So I bought Vegan butter, cheese, etc. It worked to get us started. Now I am much more comfortable... -
ARCHIVED Can Lactose Affect Dh
gfgypsyqueen replied to ranesbottom's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
My youngest has a skin rash that was also labeled exzema. But nothing made it better. Older sister had horrible rashes on that were also called excema but only temorarily improved with meds. Youngest went Dairy free (dairy allergy) after inconclusive Celiac tests. Still got rashes and could never find the problem. Turns out the insanely itchy rash on... -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed 16 Mo Old
gfgypsyqueen replied to mcarbone's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I don't think I follow the norm on this topic, but I'll tell you I do with my kids. Five food allergies spread between the three of us. There is just no possible way that I can justify making perfectly safe meals and snacks everyday that 100% safe for all of us. Just too hard and in my opinion, it sets a bad example. Maybe not bad, but definately a difficult... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free In Naples, Florida
gfgypsyqueen replied to LauraWass's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Sure thing...plenty of franchise places. PF Chang's, Carabas, Outback, Chili's, Lee Roy Selman's, Cheeseburger Cheeseburger, macaroni Grill. Naples may have a Maggiano's - not sure. There is a Oak's Market in Naples that has some gluten-free food. Ada's is well worth the trip to go to Fort Myers. Huge gluten-free selection and great staff. You should...
