ARCHIVED Ugh We Glutened Her
April in KC replied to kbdy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Awww....poor baby...and poor parents. So sorry this happened to all of you. File this away for when she's older and asks if you're "sure" she's Celiac. -
ARCHIVED Breastfed 5 Month Old - Highly Sensitive To Wheat/oat/dairy/egg
April in KC replied to baileybit's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi - my youngest had bleeding eczema starting at 4 months and really bad diapers while nursing - went through numerous food eliminations and eventually discovered it was gluten (and corn). I have Celiac but did not know it at the time...now I wonder if my antibodies contributed to his quick sensitization. I have no doubt he has Celiac, too - but I just... -
ARCHIVED Intolerance(s) In My Son...
April in KC replied to Mother of Jibril's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Peanuts, tree nuts, fish, shellfish, soy, wheat, milk, eggs... same as previous poster said. Earlier I was discussing my youngest son (out of three). My oldest son is allergic to peanuts (and later became allergic to soy and pork and oranges). He had eczema while nursing...and reacted to PB the very first time he was fed PB...there's no doubt in my... -
ARCHIVED Intolerance(s) In My Son...
April in KC replied to Mother of Jibril's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
One of DS's staple foods in that time period was a crock pot roast with potatoes and carrots. -
ARCHIVED Intolerance(s) In My Son...
April in KC replied to Mother of Jibril's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Your instincts are right...the ring and the eczema are signs of food intolerance, IMO. What you need is a crazy amount of patience to be able to detect the offending foods. Like the pp said, slow it down---way down--and watch for signs. Any time you get a rash, drop back to safe foods until all symptoms clear. If you can do it, drop back now until... -

Also, if you're low in vitamin D, you have to do more than take a daily vitamin. That's like 400 IU...my GI prescribed 50,000 IU twice a week for a month...then retest. But honestly, one of the best ways to increase Vitamin D is to make it the natural way...get out in the sun with minimal clothing for 20 minutes per day. Just don't burn yourself ...

Check your Vitamin D status! Ask for a vitamin D "panel" test that includes levels of D3. Vit D deficiency can cause weakness in the lower extremities. I was deficient in D (20) after being diagnosed with Celiac. Some test ranges will say that above 30 is okay, but most experts in D say you should be at 45 or higher. check out the Vitamin D...

ARCHIVED What Are Some Of The Side Effects When First Changing To Gluten Free?
April in KC replied to Hollymomof4's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I think it's possible his system is adjusting to a change in the way he digests things. But if the problem persists beyond a few days, consider this. Going gluten-free OFTEN times unmasks some other intolerances people have. For example, a friend was diagnosed with Celiac, and she did not think she was lactose intolerant until AFTER she went gluten... -
ARCHIVED Odd (oppositional Defiance Disorder)
April in KC replied to Fiddle-Faddle's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My oldest son was very rage-filled prior to going gluten-free. He would rage and then feel awful afterwards. We're talking about a 3-1/2 year old...a 4-1/2 year old. He made threats. When he was sad afterwards, he was deeply depressed. He talked about "wanting to go back into God's tummy" at age 3. It practically broke our hearts. We prayed a lot,... -
ARCHIVED Gastric Bypass Surgery
April in KC replied to Fran Steigerwald's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have an uncle who has been interested in the claims that gastric bypass can cure type 2 diabetes..that some cases of Type 2 originate in the gut. My family has some Type 1 diabetes, but lots and lots of Type 2. The gut connection made me wonder about Celiac, too, but I haven't seen anything in print about the effects of GB on Celiac... Are you trying... -
ARCHIVED She Ate Fruit Loops Today
April in KC replied to sugarsue's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Juliebove, the Trix I saw tonight at Minimus.biz contains "wheat starch" (last ingredient). Hope I'm wrong about that...but I wanted to let you know. - April P.S. Thanks for the minimus tip, though...I have been wanting a source like this for convenience sized travel kits. -
ARCHIVED Recently Glutened, Will That Affect My Annual Celiac Panel?
April in KC replied to burnsey's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Repeating your blood work helps you know whether you are accidentally ingesting gluten. Good (negative) results are a sign of good dietary compliance. -
ARCHIVED Nightly Right Quadrant Pain & Itching/tickling - Mostly In Back
April in KC replied to April in KC's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thanks again. I had another urinalysis done in the office today. The bilirubin, ketones and protein were gone this time, but today there was blood. (Not enough so that I could see...just something detected on the UA...and no it's not that time of month). Urine creatinine was also elevated, but I dont' know what that might mean. My fever is still here... -
ARCHIVED Nightly Right Quadrant Pain & Itching/tickling - Mostly In Back
April in KC replied to April in KC's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Okay, this past week I had a nuclear bone scan and in-office urinalysis. Right after I gave the urine sample, which was waaaayyy darker than usual, i felt something "stuck" in my back. I felt it for the next hour or so. The bone scan was absolutely fine...yay. The urinalysis showed ketones, bilirubin and one other thing (waiting for the report tomorrow... -
ARCHIVED 2 Year Old Who Stopped Eating All Foods
April in KC replied to Jules's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Okay, Jules...I posted it in the Main Discussion Board over at www.kidswithfoodallergies.org. I think you should be able to read posts in that forum without signing up...so you can keep an eye on what people are saying. I don't believe you'll be able to reply, however - so let me know if you need me to add new info to the post. -
ARCHIVED Really Sad... Testing Update
April in KC replied to jayhawkmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
(((((HUGS))))) I'm so sorry. I hate food allergies, too. DS has MFA (multiple food allergies), too. He is scheduled for a new round of tests next month, and I am dreading the possibility of learning new allergies. "allergic to WBRO" - I took that to mean wheat, barley, rye and oats...so for other posters encouraging a gluten-free diet, it sounds... -
ARCHIVED 2 Mos. Old Breastfeeding Question?
April in KC replied to teacherwheart's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I had very good results nursing my 9-month-old when I stopped eating gluten. I got my blood tests before I dropped gluten...but the day I got the blood tests done, I stopped that same day. It might mess with your endoscopy results later if you're planning to get an endoscopy done. But for me, a positive blood result was all I needed. Once I stopped gluten... -
ARCHIVED Could My Daughter's Celiac Symptoms Be Different Than Mine?
April in KC replied to ginadalan's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Irritability can be a big symptom in kids...certainly was for my oldest son. About the peanut vs. gluten in the school question...I will answer this from my perspective as a mom whose child has Celiac disease and allergies to peanut, soy, pork and oranges. The only food I ask the school for special care in avoiding is peanut. The others my son has... -
ARCHIVED Nightly Right Quadrant Pain & Itching/tickling - Mostly In Back
April in KC replied to April in KC's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thanks for the info on adrenals. I have wondered about body processes that change at night. Well, tomorrow I go for the nuclear bone scan - to see if I have an osteopenia-related fracture in my spine or ribs. For a few days, I have eaten a pretty low-fat diet to kind of test out the gallbladder theory. But today I've eaten some chocolate, and about... -
ARCHIVED 2 Year Old Who Stopped Eating All Foods
April in KC replied to Jules's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Another thought - if you don't want to pay to join KFA (since you won't be a longtime user), you can give me permission to reproduce your first post here over there on a forum (I'm a member). You can either reply to this thread and let me know, or PM me here. Over there, I just read a thread where someone was talking about food refusal and saying "food... -
ARCHIVED 2 Year Old Who Stopped Eating All Foods
April in KC replied to Jules's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Jules - another thought...you might try posting your question at KFA, www.kidswithfoodallergies.org. There are so many members there whose kids are on feeding tubes for various reasons...some even have rare genetic conditions...so you might find someone who has ideas we haven't thought of yet. It's a large but private forum...you can register as a guest... -
ARCHIVED 2 Year Old Who Stopped Eating All Foods
April in KC replied to Jules's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi again - I'm the mom who posted about EE and EGE. Have her vitamin levels been checked? Some vitamin deficiencies have "anorexia" as a symptom - lots of them, actually. I think if you look up vitamin deficiency symptoms for different vitamins such as B vitamins, you will find at least 5 vitamins that list anorexia as a symptom of deficiency. ... -
ARCHIVED Info Needed On Total Iga
April in KC replied to jonical's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
There are low or deficient IGA celiacs. If you end up finding that your ref. range indicates that's on the low side, then take this to your doctor... Open Original Shared Link It explains some other tests (IGG versions of the TTG and EMA tests) that can be run for your son. I don't know if all labs offer those versions of the tests, though...most... -
ARCHIVED 2 Year Old Who Stopped Eating All Foods
April in KC replied to Jules's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You have some good replies. An additional possibility... Some kids with eosinophilic disorders also do this (lose interest in food, or refuse it)...eosinophilic esophagitis (EE) and eosinophilic gastroenteritis (EGE) can co-exist with Celiac Disease (my son has both Celiac and EGE). Eosinophilic disorders are more common in kids with a history of atopic...
