ARCHIVED Getting Pregnant But Not On The Diet
alamaz replied to KatieB's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I just wanted to add that in no way is any one here coming down hard on you. We are all here to support eachother and we all want to be as healthy as we can be. I re read my post and realized it could have come accross as being mean or accusing you but it was totally the opposite. All of us want you to take care of yourself first so you don't have to experience... -
I don't have much advice for you other than to say I share you experience somewhat. I was recently diagnosed, the first in my family. I know to tell my family they all need to be tested and none of them will. My father hits the bathroom after every meal and will joke about gluten-free food saying "i'll be eating that way too pretty soon!" but won't get tested...

ARCHIVED Getting Pregnant But Not On The Diet
alamaz replied to KatieB's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
i can't agree more with what every one has told you. I had two miscarriages before being diagnosed. we are trying again and i am on mega supplements and 100% gluten-free, casein free, soy free diet. Something for you to think about is if you can't or don't want to take care of yourself properly how will you manage if your child has celiac? I think getting... -
The right side of my neck gets stiff when I eat something that doesn't agree with me, not necessarily gluten. I love these coconut/mango bars by Oskri and they are gluten-free but if I eat one, in 30/45 mins. my neck is stiff (but I eat them because I love them- so bad!!! ). I find that most of my symptoms occur on the right side of my body when I eat something...

Does any one have a relatively simple and casein free pumpkin cookie recipe? Or, actually I'm craving anything rich/spicy/sweet SOMETHING different so if you have a great cookie recipe that is also casein free bring it on!

ARCHIVED Going Backwards - My Story
alamaz replied to Derek Borckmann's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It is very normal to be mildly depressed right now. You have lived 40 years of your life without wondering about what you were eating and now your life is revolving around food! It is a huge lifestyle change and can be overwhelming. No one else has mentioned it but all of your children need to have the blood tests to rule out celiac. If your pediatrician... -
Has any one had luck eating here? They have gluten free options and I need a place for a business lunch that isn't too expensive. www.tedsmontanagrill.com

Yummmmmmmmm I love stir crazy! Do you remember what the sauce options were? I'm allergic to soy so I'm hoping one of them wasn't a soy based sauce (doubtful but you never know!)

good idea about giving out website information. the job is in the marketing department of the local hospital so i'm super excited because it will mean better health insurance which i really need right now!!! i wish it was a hospital with a reputation for celiac knowledge but maybe i'll have to change that

Yeah! I can't WAIT to get out of my current job and start fresh! AND I will have a nice two week vacation in between jobs so plenty of time to relax before being swamped in the new position. A little worried about the whole how do i bring it up that i can't just eat out at lunch with you any old day thing but...i have two weeks to figure it out

that does seem pretty high. you could take half of the prenatal dose and take a sep. folic acid supplement if the half dose is giving you everything else you need. i can't tolerate any prenatals right now so i take a one a day multi and an additional folic acid tablet. if you are concerned about the vitamin a level take it back to get another brand.

ARCHIVED Immodium Consquences
alamaz posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Okay- so I had to attend an intimate business lunch at some one's house who I'd never met before. I was able to get a slight variation of the food and how it was prepared but nothing in detail. So, I ate the quinoa salad and shrimp dish. I freaked out right after finishing it and took an Immodium as a precaution because I had an hour long drive back to the... -
ARCHIVED Just Getting Started With Gluten-free Lifestyle
alamaz replied to chronicbabe's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
When cooking meals, cook more than you would normally. This way you can have leftover and./or freeze some dishes for weeks when your tight on time. Most or all of your food at first should be whole foods - fresh veggies and fruits, meats, fish. Try to stay away from processed foods and hidden gluten. -
ARCHIVED Mary Kay
alamaz replied to alamaz's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I got back in touch with the Mary Kay rep. who I asked to inquire about the gluten-free status. Mary Kay gave her an entire mountain of handouts listing ingredients to avoid and what is safe etc.! The rep. thinks almost 95% of the products are safe with only the perfumes being unsafe. I have an appt. with her next week and will let every one know what happens... -
ARCHIVED Diana's Bananas
alamaz replied to alamaz's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think they might be a local company that sells to Whole Foods and other places. According to my husband they are REALLY good Apparently he couldn't wait to try them! I did make chocolate covered fruit over the weekend and when I saw these at the store figured I would take a short cut! -

ARCHIVED Bathroom Problems Every Morning
alamaz replied to shanluts's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
but you don't have any issues the rest of the day? maybe that first meal gets things moving in the morning esp. if you drink coffee or a glass of water. are you saying your still have D or just can't figure out why you have a BM in the morning? if you still have D i'd look into other intolerances you may have including soy, dairy, corn etc. Right now I know... -
ARCHIVED Share Your Diagnosis Story!
alamaz replied to MallysMama's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
One day my then boyfriend, now husband, and I were sitting in traffic driving out to his place for the weekend. Traffic was heavy but started moving and I was feeling very tense. All of the sudden I thought the car in the lane next to us was coming into our lane and was going to hit us. I reached over from the passenger seat and grabbed the steering wheel... -
Wow Ursa. It sounds like you and your youngest daugher need to take a vacation together and relax! It's hard to remember that your restrictions place stress on yourself and on the rest of the family and right now it sounds like there is a lot going on for you guys. Wedding planning takes a toll on every one involved. Once you get past this and every one has...

ARCHIVED Intolerance To All Grains?
alamaz replied to alamaz's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Interesting Nancym- I'm on probiotics so I would think that would help. I had never heard of that. It's something to consider though. The chips I ate had three ingredients- corn, canola oil and salt. that's why i was so surprised i reacted to them as fast as i did. i've ate polenta in the past few weeks and didn't react as bad as i did to the chips.... -
i'm sorry! that is so upsetting coming from your daughter. could your husband tell her that when she orders something her mom can eat he'll pay for it? it's so close to the wedding i'm sure she is just stressed out and feels like she can't "handle" anything else right now and it just slipped her mind. i hope you get to at least enjoy the day and can figure...

Rice seems to be about the only grain I can tolerate and even then I can only eat one serving once or twice a week. Last night I tried eating corn (chips and salsa) and had a migraine within the hour. I also notice when I tried quinoa that the next day I had serious D. Are there others out there who are the same way? Could this go away the longer I'm on...
