  1. I've been gluten-free for 6 weeks and have seen improvements in my acne (until I ate something containing soy!) and my skin texture/look. My dark circles have seem to come back but I'm also not sleeping well the past week or so. Other improvements are hit or miss. One day my stomach is doing great and two days later it's like I'm back to square one. Very...
  2. In general sugar is a horrible thing to ingest. As a human, it's impossible to avoid or not have a craving for it. I react similarly to you. yesterday I ate a bag of swedish fish and a half hour later i was irritated, tired, achy and thirsty. I'm not sure if it would be a candida problem but it's definitely sugar related. This is a link to what sugar does...
  3. Hi- I found out I had celiac in January after a miscarriage. I've been gluten free for 6 weeks and we are still TTC but I'm not pressuring myself like I was prior to the M/C. If you do have a gluten intolerance then it takes time for your body to heal. I know of one person who was in the same boat as I am in now and it took her nine months after being gluten...
  4. I have my first appt. with a nutritionist this week. I know I'm losing still because pants I wore last summer that were too tight in september I wore yesterday and they looked like potato sacks on me. i am having trouble figuring out what to eat that's for sure. right now the only time i seem to have a normal bm is when i eat soup and something like rice...
  5. Whoops! I've been using Listerine from time to time. Grrrrrrr! Madi have you tried an elimination diet? There could be other things you are sensitive to including dairy, eggs, soy etc. I know soy is a huge one for me. Amy
  6. Hi- Just wanted to say I can sympathize with how you feel. This is the girl who will take an "early" lunch to go home and use the home base instead of being "humiliated" at work (it's a small office and several people have the great desk locations enabling them to hear *everything* that goes on in the bathrooms). That being said, I'm terrified of flying so...
  7. Right now I'm CF but used to eat quite a bit of goat cheese and was wondering if it would be okay on the gluten-free/CF diet. What is the major differences between regular cow's milk cheese and goat cheese? thanks, Amy
  8. well, I know I tested positive for casein, soy, eggs and yeast through Enterolab so I haven't had much to eat outside of balanced meals three times a day and maybe some fruit and nuts for snacks. Very little sugar and/or baked goods also. I'm just find it odd that I'm losing weight while I read about most people on the gluten-free diet start to gain since...
  9. I've only be gluten-free for about 5 weeks and have definitely made a few mistakes along the way. My concern is that I'm losing weight. I've never had a weight problem so losing weight isn't exactly a good thing. Is this normal in the beginning? I'm feeling a little better as in my hair isn't coming out in clumps in the shower and I have more energy most...
  10. my mom used to worry all the time because she said the only time i got bags and black circles as a kid was when i was sick. then i had them from 22-28 permanantly. i've been five weeks gluten-free and *I* think my circles are definitely better and the puffiness has all but disappeared. whoo hoooo!
  11. I'm crossing my finger but I've only had one incident since going gluten-free and it was very mild compared to other episodes and I think soon after realizing I had ate something with gluten in it (for some reason I was convinced there was something "black and dangly" hanging over the bed- my desciption to my husband exactly). When I was little my intense...
  12. I've been gluten-free for a few weeks myself. After the first week I felt great and then something happened and I have good days and bad days. I think part of that is your body adjusting to new foods and lack of old foods (lots of sugar for me for instance). Are you eating enough protein? I try to make sure I have protein with every meal and snack so if I...
  13. www.enterolab.com A lot of people have used this lab for testing but some people think it's not accurate. Amy
  14. hmmm.... Imo. the web turned up some non-specific stuff but I'll have to look for it in the grocery store next time I'm there. I haven't made the recipe yet but here it is if anyone wants to try it: Chicken and Wild Rice Stuffed Tomatoes (From a Rachel Ray Magazine) 1/4 cup wild rice 8 large tomatoes 3 tablespoons olive oil 1 onion- chopped 4 ounces...
  15. I didn't think about hummus.....that might work and the souring the coconut milk with vinegar thing sounds interesting..... is that just putting vinegar in the coconut milk to taste? Amy
  16. Up until about a year ago we ate out and ate convience foods regulary. Then I started getting really sick and went on a diet where I had to adjust to cooking myself but still allowed myself "cheat" days. Eventually I started feeling so good on my diet that I figured it couldn't hurt to eat out a few more times a week than normal (I was "Cured" - I didn't...
  17. I need a substitute for sour cream. The recipe uses sour cream to mix everything together (chicken stuffed tomatoes). Is there a DF/gluten-free/SF alternative I could use?
  18. I used to get really bad night sweats. At one point I was convinced I had lukemia because I did a frantic internet search and that's what came up. Now, I just get hot esp. in the mornings when I am getting ready for work (to the point that I'll stand outside while letting the dog out when it's 5 degrees and STILL be hot) but I don't have the night sweats...
  19. I have celiac disease so I know gluten does it to me for sure but I'm also allergic to soy and I've found it harder to avoid soy since going gluten-free than gluten. If it doesn't contain gluten it definitely contains soy or so it seems. soy makes me break out like a teenager! Amy
  20. Do you take fish oil? Cod Liver Oil has Vit. D. in it and the fish oil is supposed to help soothe inflammation as well. The dose is one teaspoon but I generally take 4 teaspoons a day. Also, can you get outside in the sun at all? Sunlight is the best way to get your Vit. D. Just sitting in the sun 10 - 15 mins./day can help a lot (don't wear sunscreen and...
  21. I have to second the Bare Minerals. I just started using that line for foundation and blush and LOVE it. I hate wearing foundations because by the end of the day I feel like a big oil slick but since I switched to Bare Minerals I wear make up every day. I still haven't found a lipstick I like though.....
  22. I will be traveling for the first time at the end of the month as a celiac. Along with needing to be gluten-free, i also can't eat dairy soy or eggs. I would like to call the hotel ahead of time to see what type of accomodations they are able to make for things like breakfast and lunch (we'll most likely not eat dinner at the hotel). Does any one have experience...
  23. some celiacs are sensitive to gluten even being on the skin. i switched to the desert essences organic gluten-free shampoos and conditioners and my scalp feels soooo much better. i always used to have dry scalp- year round! amy
  24. You are where I was three weeks ago and the response you got from your doctor is very similar to what I heard. It is SO overwhelming. Then I got it down for a week and now the past two weeks have been miserable. It's such a roller coaster. A good book to start with is "Celiac Disease: A Hidden Epidemic" by Dr. Peter Green. It's informational but easy to read...
  25. Thanks, I was just reading all the *possible* problems and started getting really freaked out. I just felt like the way my luck has been going recently - they'll perforate my stomach and I'll get a massive infection....yes, I have a rather intense imagination Amy
