  1. No, you do not need to fast for celiac testing.
  2. I worked as an organic chemist for a while, and now I'm back in school studying clinical laboratory science, meaning that I'll be running all of the patient lab tests for hospitals, clinics, and/or reference laboratories. I am counting down the days until graduation...
  3. I won't buy Hershey's either. I do buy Mars/Dove, Tootsie, Nestle/Wonka and many other companies that will disclose gluten in their ingredients.
  4. Thanks! I will definitely make these soon!
  5. I love See's! My five year old, and every one else in my life, always gets their chocolate when I give chocolate gifts!
  6. Welcome to the board! False negatives are common in children, and you are lucky to have knowledgeable doctors for your son. Many doctors seem to be severely uneducated when it comes to celiac disease. Most GI doctors will want to do a biopsy of the small intestine. For this procedure it is important that he continues to eat a gluten rich diet. There...
  7. Dove chocolate will clearly disclose gluten in the ingredients if present. I don't know if you have See's chocolate in your area, but all their chocolate is gluten free, except for the chocolate with decorative icing (like the Easter eggs). The decorations are made by another company in another facility, and they do not claim them to be gluten free.
  8. I can't remember if the box stated gluten free, but I don't think so.
  9. I'm in Portland OR and I have found Strawberry Chex. I found gluten free Kix ONCE at Walmart (and bought 9 boxes)! The Albertson's in Milwaukie regularly stocks Honey Kix!!! The Honey Kix only have an extra 10 calories per serving, so I'll buy them until regular Kix becomes widely available.
  10. There is some variation amongst laboratories, but here are some general iron reference ranges: Iron Studies Total Serum Iron (TSI) 76-198
  11. Or wait until someone mentions McDonald's french fries!
  12. If you private message me your email address I'll send you a PowerPoint presentation I did on celiac disease. It was for an immunology class so I don't know if it's too detailed.
  13. No gluten is added to Tylenol or Motrin, but they do not test all of their products for gluten. The products on their gluten free lists are the products they have tested, but all of their products should be safe.
  14. Last time I checked both Kroger and Safeway brand chicken and rice condensed soups are gluten free. It's been a while since I contacted Safeway so you should talk to them if you want to buy their soup.
  15. Maybe cornstarch or arrowroot starch?
  16. This recipe has some good reviews, but I have not tried it yet... Open Original Shared Link
  17. Yes, I have been buying them for over a year with no problems.
  18. Wow! Thanks. Gluten-containing chips have been banned from our household, everyone will be thrilled!
  19. I called them about a year ago and they said that they would list any gluten and not hide it in their natural flavors or any other ingredients.
  20. I have been having the same trouble and I use a regular oven. For a while I got the problem to go away when I switched recipes, but for some reason the doughiness has returned! I cook my pizzas on parchment paper on top of a pizza screen for five minutes, then slide the crust directly onto the screen. Last time I cooked it at 450 degrees until the crust...
  21. First of all, there are plenty of laboratory tests, such as GFR, where the "gold standard" is not often used. This can occur for a variety of reasons, such as expense, and patient discomfort. If the patient has celiac symptoms or family history, positive blood work, and positive dietary response that is an adequate diagnosis. Many health professionals...
  22. They look for the measles antibody in your serum. They do this by screening for antibodies using the measles antigen, such as measles protein. The measles antigen is usually immobilized on a surface, such as a plate or well. Then your serum is added and any measles antibody you might have in your serum will bind to the measles antigen on the plate. Then...
  23. There are not a lot of pediatric gastroenterologists in the Portland metro area. The only clinics that I know of are at Emanuel or Doernbecher children's hospital at OHSU. I am personally a fan of Doernbecher, since they have a private lab on the specialty ped floor and they have outstanding doctors. When kids get their blood drawn they go into a closed...
