  1. Hi Dani, I am glad you got something out of my story. It has been a long time coming--figuring these things out. I have been greatly helped these last two years by the folks on the salicylate sensitivity forum. Check them out sometime! They do not limit themselves to talking about just salicylates since there are many related food sensitivity issues that...
  2. You might want to consider checking out the salicylate sensitivity forum. A really nice, supportive and informed bunch of folks whose information is often more helpful than most doctors.
  3. Portland, Oregon is another great celiac aware city. Very good for the arts, health and all things progressive. Community oriented. Lots of biking and excellent rapid transit. Cosmopolitan population. Beautiful landscape and lots of bridges -- two rivers with the Columbia and the Willamette. Wonderful parks. Lots of celebrations. Its an affordable, down...
  4. Thanks for posting this Dani. Its an interesting, well written article. I too have salicylate sensitivity--along with celiac and a few other sensitivities: amines, tannins, and oxalates. Going off the salicylates nearly two years ago was the first part of this wrinkle in my healing journey--and it measurably made me less jumpy, with legs flailing at...
  5. Hi Barful, I am so glad to hear you did not react to the corn in the original antibiotics. I know for myself I have often been able to tolerate something once every 3 to 7 days. Some things its all the way up to once a month. But sometimes even then its worth it, eh? Its nice to realize your leaky gut is a little less leaky more than likely. Good job...
  6. I have found it helpful to take epsom salt baths and to detox using bentonite clay sprinkled on top of water in a mug and let sit 4 to 7 hours or more (covered to avoid flies and cats!), and then stirred and drunk with another mug of water with an equal amount of psyllium husks quickly stirred in. I started with a teaspoon of each and now am easily able to...
  7. Its also possible you could be having other food sensitivities in addition to the gluten. I have gotten hives from salicylates, amines and tannins. Its worth looking into if you get no relief. Looking into the DH is also worth the trouble. Check out the salicylate sensitivity forum for more advice if DH is not enough of the answer.
  8. Go to the ER and get it drained immediately! This is not something to fool around with. A good friend of mine just had the same experience last weekend. The abscess apparently was so large he will have to get the tooth pulled later this week. He was too weak to have it pulled last Thursday. He is on clindamycin now. He was able to get a no gluten, lactose...
  9. Was just reading that you should only take castor oil for 3 days at a time max. One teaspoon a day should do it. Some folks are allergic to it. Thankfully you aren't! Fish oil I wonder might help too somehow? Just to keep things lubricated perhaps. Triphala might help too?? Assuming you can handle it of course... I believe it is made from some kind...
  10. You got me there too Caroline. I am glad the castor oil seems to be helping you. I thought it best to use externally in an oil pack rather than internally... But it seems I must be wrong there?? Lately I have been using bentonite to absorb toxins safely and get them out of my system without recirculating them. It also helps for some people with their movements...
  11. Another possibility is oxalates. It is all so complicated. Some are helped too by the specific carbohydrate diet--absolutely the wrong diet if you have a salicylate problem. However it might work for you I wonder since you do so well with meat. But the fact you react to both fruits and vegetables (though I hope not all!!) does indicate some kind of possible...
  12. Am glad to hear your regular doc is much more supportive. That makes a huge difference. Am also glad to hear you are very careful in the kitchen etc. If you rule out CC from standard sources, often its important to look at other possibilities. One is where you get your food supplies from and how they were grown and manufactured. Another direction to...
  13. Thanks Pac for substantiating the experience of at least some of us here. If this experience is so rare, why is it that at certain chain restaurants like PF Chang's they now use dedicated ovens for the likes of us?? And why is it that my bf and I and another friend of ours all have suffered from eating food made in ovens also used for baking gluten?? ...
  14. If it was me I would likely think I had been CC'd despite my hosts best intentions due to the fact you got D. One has to go to a great deal of trouble to avoid CC. You could gently enquire sometime (without being snide or accusing) as to just how far they went cleaning and getting a new chopping block and the like and keeping their hands clean from gluten...
  15. Oh it is so awful to live with folks who just don't get it and don't want to. And then to have a doctor who is so obtuse! And all of those I am assuming piles of gluteny dishes?? No wonder you are in pain dear. The CC must be astronomical!! Who knows if they are getting into your food too or not, eh? Just having crumbs all around is way enough by itself...
  16. I agree. I went on a grain free diet for instance for 10 months but it did not help me. Instead what is helping is staying off milk, salicylates and now amines as well as the gluten. Fresh brown rice as it turns out is very good for me. Well you see that is me. To say due to my experience everyone needs to do the same thing would be laughable. We are all...
  17. Definitely. There is a reason the Vikings ate the moldy rye bread before their rampages dear. It really is not a nice place to be. Interestingly I am discovering amines from aged food affects me similarly. I guess its a no brainer--take your own food! No Taco Bell!! Ding Ding!!
  18. Am thinking of ordering one or two of the books: the RPAH Elimination Diet Handbook and the "Friendly Food" recipe book. Seems like the only place to do so is from RPAH in Australia. No wonder so few know about it here in the States! So thank you Wendy for pointing the RPAH books out tome again. Meanwhile I discovered I even have to have my cooked beans...
  19. Thanks Wendy--that is really useful information!
  20. Hi Annette, I do hope having extra bioflavanoids helps you out. It means eating more fruits and veggies and beans despite your limited diet. I haven't had a hair analysis so I can't say for sure, however I do eat plenty of vegetables and now fruit (apples and pears) as well as beans so I should be OK with the bioflavinoids at least theoretically. ...
  21. Well actually I don't tolerate bananas at all either. Or any alcohol, citrus, peanuts, etc. Thanks for the heads up just on the migraine front. I'll have to look up flat beans. I seem to be able to eat black eyed peas, black beans and asuki beans just fine thankfully since I need to be able to eat at least some protein!! since it seems I am allergic to all...
  22. It isn't just eggs, all animal products must be very fresh if you want to avoid amines. Chicken has to be killed the day before you skin it and parboil it and freeze the sections to use within one month. No pork or beef. Fish only has one day to use it too, and cannot stand to be refrozen. Fresh is fresh like in the ancient days of yore, no doubt! Same...
  23. For me it is staying off not only the salicylates but also now the amines. When I have the amines my ears buzz big time. It takes a while for the effect to leave the system. It is a learning process to figure out what one can eat on such a limited diet. I discovered I had this problem after going hog wild making and eating sauerkraut and home made yogurt...
  24. The ignorance out there is appalling. Hospitals are the worst. When my down syndrome brother with celiac was admitted after vomiting and diarrhea after having had some forbidden gluten, they put him in isolation thinking he had a bad bacterial infection. I went into the ICU and had to tell them the truth. This was I think the 4th time he'd been admitted...
  25. I have had problems like that with my family. You would think they would know better. They are not youngsters. Teens could possibly be forgiven for acting so immaturely. However whomever does it its got to hurt and it does IMHO. I just would not associate with them. You have better things to do. Just don't speak with them any longer. Take up other interests...
