  1. Hi Quack, Thanks for being so supportive. Its too late though, I already yelled at my younger brother and my mother. I actually called her a selfish jerk and slapped her face, not only for her not caring about my (read "our") condition now but also for me as a child since I have had this since I was an infant, but she never told me until last spring! I...
  2. They say stress is what brings out the genetic potential. I am sorry that had to happen to you and your son by the way. Speaking of stress and seasonal crash, right now I am trying not to hate my youngest brother whom I overall really like. However he broke my trust by making 7 glutenous pies for Thanksgiving in my mothers kitchen yesterday when I had...
  3. Hi Quack, No I haven't read that thread. Could you tell me the title? It sounds both interesting and useful. It turns out I wasn't breast fed since too much was going on and my mom didn't produce enough milk for me. there was also a lot of stress (as in shouting matches etc.) going on between my parents. My mother at that point had a love/hate relationship...
  4. About the elixers of life and celiac--that is an interesting thought. I think that for us anyway being on diet and taking things that help us does keep us younger than others our age. I think its the plus part of our inheritance. In addition, there are those who say gluten isn't really that digestible for anyone and that it is one of the main root causes...
  5. Hopefully the more my brain fog lifts the more I will understand about this sneaky disease. I feel as if I am getting my eyes opened a little wider every day.
  6. You are totally right about the alfalfa being an immune stimulant. I didn't realize. Wow. For some people it can actually bring out lupus. Obviously we should avoid it since Celiac indicates an overactive immune system. It has helped me in the short term but I don't take it every day... In my defence, Phyllis Balch in her book Herbal Healing recommends it...
  7. Ah, its herbal licorice I meant, not the candy. You can get the whole sticks or chopped up or powdered or just get capsules. In an herbal mash it tends to froth up when on a slow boil. You have to stir it down and turn down the heat and then its OK. You only need 1/2 the dose of other herbs (i.e, 1/2 tablespoon vs 1 tablespoon of other herbs to a quart of...
  8. I agree false--meat doesn't have gluten in it despite the feed the animals ate. Though sausages etc. are another matter. Make sure you get gluten-free ones since they often add starch to help bind them together. Same with ham and cooked turkey (the basting and/or stuffing process) and hamburger is often "fortified" with wheat to make it stickier. Bea
  9. I would worry about using too much aloe vera juice. It can cause D! From what I read, just use a tablespoon or two a day, no more. Best used if you struggle with Constipation. It does have youth creating properties. Some herbs that seem to be helpful for the adrenals and nerves are peppermint, licorice, lavender, rosemary, chamomile, skullcap and alfalfa...
  10. quote: "What is the problem with the cabbage? Because I have stepped up the leafy green vegetables trying to increase my natural vitamins and cabbage is something I eat a lot more of." I hear that excess cabbage can lower the thyroid. Try supplementing with liquid chlorophyll from Alfalfa. Leafy veggies are generally very good, just rotate them and don...
  11. Glad to be of help. Let us know if these suggestions work for you. Good luck! Bea
  12. I think the pea green pee (a poem here?) really could be from vitamins or such as suggested. Try going off any vitamins of that color and see if your pee changes back to normal... You might want to get your thyroid and/or adrenals checked. Lots of people with celiac get low thyroid. Often that is presaged with burnt out adrenals. Like from too much coffee...
  13. I used to have this problem. At its worst it extended down to my buttocks. Avoiding sugar and going on basically a cave man diet made it go away. If I eat sugar it quickly comes back, esp. on my neck first. I used detox herbs (and still do regularly)--many of which I have discussed elsewhere here on the forum. Dandelion root and/or milk thistle caps plus...
  14. Welcome to the boards! Am glad you finally consulted us. A lot of people with celiac initially have to go off all grains and eat a "cave man diet". You might be one of them. It really won't hurt in any case to give it a try. It really helped me. Eventually I added other grains like teff, sorgum and amaranth and well washed quinoa. Now finally I can eat...

That depends on whether or not you have candida and/or fungal overgrowth and possible allergy to fructose. I do, so those things don't work for me. That's hard Elf that you have to share in a household with so many who eat gluten. Is this your house with your kids etc.? Seems to me you might be able to get your family to eat more non glutenous food in...
  16. You are quite welcome. There are lists on the home pages of celiac.com that tell you what to avoid and what not. Some are more sensitive than others. I happen to be one of the ultra sensitive ones, but not everyone is. You can also use the search engine to find out info. on a variety of topics people have posted on this site. It is complicated at first,...

    ARCHIVED Need Advice

It seems to me your intestines are in bad shape thus causing you to react to seemingly everything. I suggest you use slippery elm between meals to calm down and heal your stomach and intestines. You can make a gruel with it by mixing it one to two tablespoons to one to two cups of water. Start with a small amount of water and then increase as you whisk...
  18. I too have always been very sensitive to soaps. I don't have DH however my mother does. I instead tend to get irritated skin and eczema. I like Trader Joe's Tea Tree Oil bar soap. Its very inexpensive, gentle and gluten free. It seems to work for my mom too. Bea
  19. Hi Jenny, Welcome to celiac.com! You should find it a very informative and supportive place. Many people here have had your same problems and been helped. I suggest you stay off gluten and trace glutens entirely for say three to six months and then challenge it by having some gluten (for some its a year). Its also very possible that the endoscopy...
  20. I am glad you decided to do that. I know how heartbreaking it is to think you are detoxing when in fact you are making yourself ill due to the hidden gluten. It seems like a lot of naturopaths have a long ways to catch up with what is now known about celiac. Many still seem to think a little gluten is OK and also that one can "grow out of it"! This of course...
  21. It could be. Corn often is CC in the silo etc. Potatoes too for some are suspect. I found recently my eczema was due to potatoes, tomatoes and peppers--seems its not that uncommon for people with celiac. It was driving me nuts; am so glad I now know to avoid them... Bea
  22. Last spring after I discovered how sensitive I am and had gotten so very ill with a bacterial infection as a result of several episodes of CC, I used to talk about it all the time. Now I just state the facts if I have to and always bring some food along to wherever I go in my little lunchbox or in my purse. Sometimes it cracks me up if I have to mention...
  23. A friend took my gluten-free Thai rice dish out of my truck that I had prepared myself for a group event and then helped himself--using a clean plastic fork since he knows I have celiac and was "doing his best". I immediately put my large metal spoon in the dish and helped myself before anyone else had a chance at it, but it was already too late and I got...
