  1. I know its seems over whelming at first. I think that when you are first diagnosed you should try to eat in only....get yourself back to health, and regain your strength. If you are feeling as crummy as I think you are, (I remember that feeling well) you must take care of "you". Then you'll see, you can start baking, and you'll trust eating out better...
  2. I've tried several different ways to upload a picture, and no success. Does anyone have certain steps that I can follow? I stink at this computer thing Thanks, Janet
  3. It is such a horrible ordeal when you are glutened. Maybe 3 or 4 hours later I begin to go into a tailspin, and it lasts days. Are you feeling nausea, abdominal pains? Weak and fatigued? I know, its such crummy feeling, hopefully tomorrow will be a new day for you. Janet
  4. It's the same at my church. We are told just to drink the wine. Years ago, there was only communion, and no wine. At least we are able to receive one. Janet
  5. I know this is going to sound crazy, but through the months when my gut was and is deciding what I can tolerate, well the times when my whole belly area is uncomfortable, I put a heating pad on low, and it seems to soothe it a bit. I hope this helps a little in the meantime. Janet
  6. The list with my son goes on and on. This is my first baby that I almost lost when he was 5 days old. For the past 4 years, it has been the worst with him. He has had severe rashes that I had taken him to the ER, which is the same rashes that he had as an infant, and growing up...but these were all over. He had a chronic cough since he was a little boy...
  7. My son 22 year old son was just this Wednesday diagnosed by enterolab with celiacs. For the past 2 years, monthly he ran fevers of 104. The Drs had no reason for this. I, of course as his mom, was freaking out. But myself, other than the complications from the celiacs, didn't get sick with colds, or fevers. I wonder why that was, it used to cross my...
  8. Hello TMK, I called Hersheys, and they said that the normal sized ones are gluten free, but not the minis. That afternoon when I ate only 2, a couple of hours later I had the nausea, that night I woke up sweating, and the next day in the bathroom with the big D....hardly worth it over a little bite of chocolate. That was last Wednesday, just last night...
  9. jerseyangel, I think that every time I pop back in on the site, I am always amazed that SOMEONE out there feels the things that I do I too had the horrible pain in my big toe, but I kept it to myself because I felt it was just another thing that I was "complaining" about. The Drs always seemed to brush off my symptoms, or telling me that "you're...
  10. Awww, I'm so sorry that you aren't feeling well. I know that for alot of celiacs, including me, we are suseptible to fungal overgrowth or bacterial infections. Google "candida". They have questionaires to fill out, see how many you say yes too. Candida is very hard to get rid of, and you mght need a trip back to the Dr for some meds. These nasty bacterias...
  11. Ok, I'm going to jump right in here and add, when I have BMs. I see little speckled nuts. What the heck could that be?? Every day is a new adventure. You never know what its going to bring. Janet
  12. Carla, Hello, I was wondering how long can I use the oregano oil at a time for? I used it for almost 3 weeks, and I stopped because I was glutened, and I got really sick from it. I couldn't imagine putting anything in my stomach because I was so nauseous. I thought that I remembered seeing somewhere to use it for 15 days, then stop for 15. Also, how...
  13. I ate those darned mini reeses peanut butter cups that oddly enough have gluten in it. I have been sick for 3 days. I can't believe what 2 little mouthfuls have done to me. The nightsweats also happened the first night that I was glutened with the candy, and a little bit the next night too. Now I have muscle pain. It seems that everytime I accidently...
  14. The more I find out about Celiacs, the more scared I get. The past couple of days, I haven't been feeling well. Every once in a while I wake up sweating. Does this happen to anyone? And also can this be from a fungal overgrowth? Janet
  15. Hello Loraleena, I went to the website www.drlow.com and it was for an orthodontist? What did I do wrong? Janet
  16. I'm so glad that someone thought of this. For me, I always had something going on. Fevers, sore throat, dry itchy, itchy patches, bruises everywhere, D, C,. But it wasn't until I had my first baby, when I developed joint pains, severe brain fog, ataxia, chronic sinus infections, and finally Hashimotos. I think that it was the difficult birth of my son...
  17. Hello Ali, Meatloaf can be anything you want it to be. For each pound of meat use 1 egg.(eg, 1 1/2 lbs use 2 eggs, etc) and then breadcrumb subsitute. Then add whatever you're in the mood for. Add onions, peppers, shaved carrots, or bbq sauce(which is what I like). Then form it into a loaf, and bake on 350 for about and hour. You can also coat the...
  18. I have called Hersheys several times in the past, and asked them about different kinds of the kisses. They gave me a direct anwer of "no", they are gluten-free. I thought that I remembered seeing somewhere that the peanut butter cups were gluten-free. But today when I called and asked them about the mini peanut butter cups, they said they could not say...
  19. OK, who put the gluten in the peanut butter cup?? I had 2 of the small cups yesterday, and had stomach pains through the day and night. I called Hersheys today, and they said they could not guarantee that is it gluten-free. But my stomach knows Anyone else have a reaction to the peanut butter cups? Janet
  20. I too think that the most accurate way to diagnose is through enterolab. Babies are not able to produce the antibodies needed for the blood test.(taken from the book"gluten free for dummies") My son suffered so much growing up, especially these past 4 years when he wasn't able to keep any food in stomach. I would just cut to the chase, and do the DNA testing...
  21. Wow Natalie! By the time you were diagnosed, what was all your symptoms? You had to have had major problems with your stomach. Were you also having any reflux? Were you feeling weak? I know that when I was at my worst, I didn't have the strength to get myself out of bed. Also, how are you feeling now? It would be interesting to hear how your recovery...
  22. Dear longislandlady, I also am from long island. I was wondering because that you had so much damage, did they also do a colonoscopy? Sometimes I get intestinal cramping, but I know that they have a long way to heal. When I had the endo, I really should have had the other end as well. My GI really wasn't the smartest doc around. I have been gluten...
  23. Loraleena, I also have hashimotos, I was diagnosed in 1999. I haven't taken synthroid in several months because since I went gluten-free, my TSH has leveled off. The antibodies of course will always be there. Now 2 weeks ago, I went for all my bloodwork, the TSH is fine, but my T's are low. The Dr said no synthroid if the TSH is fine. In the meantime...

    ARCHIVED Hair Loss

Before I was diagnosed(Feb'07) I was losing clumps of hair, and my nails were snapping like a piece of plastic. Then slowly over the next couple of months, things seemed to be getting better. I just had bloodwork 2 weeks ago, and my levels are fine. Now I am losing clumps of hair again, I can't figure it out. I do take vitamins daily, including sublingual...
  25. I guess that a GI Dr should know what to look for. I just went to my primary Dr, he did a basic, vit b12, d, cbc sed rate, thyroid(I have hashimotos). I guess from that they can tell if you are absorbing, or what you are missing. Maybe you should look into taking vitamis. Before I was diagnosed, my vit d was non existant. I take viactiv, magnesium,...
