  1. Many years ago I thought I had a really bad tooth because I had so much pain, but the dentist said it was TMJ which is short for temporal mandibular joint disfunction, which I had never heard of, but is bandied about quite frequently now. It is the grinding or (in my case) clenching of teeth, mostly in the sleep, and it causes extreme pain in the jaw and...
  2. So far all of the boughten bread I have had is very dense, but WF sandwich bread was the best of what I had. I make my own bread/not in a machine, but I do have a Kitchen Aid mixer. I use the Bob's Red Mill mix and it isn't cheap. The mix is between $3.75 and $4.75 depending where I get it and then it takes a lot of eggs. On the package it says to make...
  3. You need a new doctor..............it is a proven fact that celiac is hereditary, my granddaughter has it, I carry the gene and my mother just got diagnosed with it at 88. Both my mother and I were blood tested negative the first time. Run, don't walk to a new doctor until you find one that actually knows what is going on in this field. Barbara
  4. Almost the same song and dance...........got diagnosed with fibro in December one year and then celiac in the summer of the next year. The fibro is much better due to the fact that I take Mobic and a lot of magnesium with malic acid and probably because I do not eat gluten. I still have flare-ups (pain and weariness) occasonally due to overwork or stress...

  6. I was at the Flat Top Grill in downtown Chicago and it was nice. The server was very nice about making sure my food was gluten-free and I had the right sauce. It is getting easier all the time to eat out. I still like Noodles and Co. the best, though for fast food. They are all over and the buttered rice noodles with chicken, tomatoes and broccoli and...
  7. That is a good place to eat and yes, it is totally casual. The mom and pop are delightful and are going to start a mail order business. They will be rich someday. It is interesting to read the book they bring to the table for you to sign...........there are lots of people in there. I wish I had tried the pizza, my granddaughter's favorite. I had the...
  8. The magnesium that I take is from Allergy Research Group, I get it at the health food store, it is relatively expensive. It is magnesium with malic acid and I started taking it to help with my fibromyalgia at the recommendation of the man that owns the stor. He is very smart and has celiac disease. He actually recommended it when I first was diagnosed...
  9. My new stove can cook either convection or regular, but I always use the convection part. It works great for everything. I do agree that you need a slightly lower temperature, or less time with some things. It is a matter of trial and error. I bake my own bread using Bob's Red Mill mix and bake it in four small pans for 30 minutes. It turns out nice...
  10. I take a lot of magnesium with malic acid and have no problems. It is taken to help with fibromyalgia, they have found that people with fibro and migraines can be seriouly lacking in magnesium. The expert at my healthfood store, who has celiac disease, recommended it and along with the perscription, Mobic, my fibro pain is at a minimum until I overwork...
  11. Here you go my friend..........prunes. I take a serious amount of magnesium which is supposed to be a natural laxative (take it to help with my fibormyalgia)....doesn't help with the constipation that I know of. However, a dish of prunes every day or so, and that is what made me regular and smooth. Try it, it sure is easier than taking medicine which I...
  12. Go to Imperial Gardens in Middleton on University Ave.------they will make nearly anything on their menu gluten-free and serve you gluten-free soy sauce at the table. Their egg drop soup is gluten-free. I hit that place every time I am in that town and whenever you hit a town with a Noodles and Co. you can always be assured that you can have a gluten-free...
  13. Noodles and Company is one of my favorite restaurants. I get the buttered rice noodles with broccoli, fresh tomatoes and chicken plus parmesan cheese, it is so good, I think I could eat it every week, but the one I go to is 250 miles away and I only get there when I go to see my family. I just came from there and I think this is the first time I have been...
  14. OOOOOOOO, didn't know about that cookbook, that one would be good to get and just try things gluten-free. Thanks for the idea. I used raw chicken, pan sauteed it and seasoned it in the pan.
  15. I just love the gluten-free lettuce wrap at P F Chang's. This is how I made it at home....it isn't quite the same, but pretty darn close. Took some chicken breast and chopped it up small and sauteed it in some oil and put some McCormick's ginger and gluten-free soy sauce on it and cooked it until the flavors were mixed in. Put some gluten-free chinese...
  16. My kids have been gone for years, but my friend just went through this a couple of years ago and I went through it with her. Her dream child left for college and I never saw anyone take something so hard. I coached her through it, held her when she cried and TRUST ME, if she can get through it, you can. It is very o.k. to feel this way, I think it is a...
  17. Have a granddaughter who is now almost 9 that was diagnosed with severe celiac disease at age one. About four years ago this summer her mother told me that she thought with all the things I had going on I should get tested. I tested negative on the blood test, but through Enterolab I was gluten intolerant and also carry the gene. I have had migraine headaches...
  18. I have eaten at DaLuciano's and it was very good, although pricey. We are all from Wisconsin, but my granddaughter always wants to eat there when their family flies in and out of O'Hare. She is 8. She insisted that I should stop there when I was having a trip to the Chicago area recently. It wasn't easy to find, but it was interesting and the people that...
  19. Heize ketchup is sooooooooo good, I would not let anything else touch my food or that of my customers in my restaurant anyway and it is gluten-free. Also kudos again to WalMart for all of their gluten-free labeling, I am a big fan. Barbara
  20. Oats give me pains in my stomach and boy, do I miss them. However, now I eat cream of buckwheat nearly every morning, I just don't seem to get sick of it----could be the sugar I put on it!!!! There is quite a big of fiber in it and it really starts my day our swell. It is available at most health food stores, but I have never seen it at the mainstream...
  21. OH, MAN..........I always tune out too soon. Many days I just watch hot topics and then get on with my day, was not interested in the guests so shut off the TV. I should have stuck with it, I guess. I am interested in the Baskin Robbins cake thing too. Hope there are others with information, but calling them would be the best, I guess. Obviously that...
  22. Go to P F Changs by Mayfair...it is really good. They have an entire gluten-free menu, you must try the lettuce wrap appetizer. It is their signature item and comes in a gluten-free form. It is excellent and I think next time I am going to get just that and the chocolate dessert that everyone has been raving about. I have never had that as I don't have...
  23. I also agree with Rachel, she gives interesting points...things I need to think about. There are times, that although I know I am eating gluten-free, I still feel like I have been slightly glutened. Now I am wondering about the leaky gut thing as I am 62 and this could have been building up over time. Maybe it is time to see if there are other things that...

    ARCHIVED P. F. Changs?

You MUST try their signature item which is their lettuce wrap appetizer, I think I could eat it for my main dish. There is a gluten-free version, which we share before our meal. It is awesome. However, then you probably will not have room for dessert, or maybe you could share one. It is so nice to go to a restaurant that caters to gluten-free people with...
  25. Really have to agree with all former people........I bought mine as a refurbished one at Pamida, plain white, nothing fancy and got it for $99.99. It works like and dream. If I had known they were this good, I would have had one a LOT of years ago. I make my own bread from the Bob's Red Mill gluten-free Bread Mix and you just put everything in and let...
