  1. I forgot to mention that the sauce has cornstarch, the sauce won't thicken without it.
  2. Breakfast: 1. EnviroKidz Organic Peanut Butter Panda Puffs Cereal with sliced banana on top 2. Lifestream Natural Buckwheat Wildberry Waffles with Aunt Jemima Syrup 3. Eggs (scrambled, sunny side up, boiled) 100% Pure Red Grape Juice Lunch: 1. Gluten free Bread (unfrozen, found at most health food stores) with Kraft Peanut Butter 2. Gluten free bagels...
  3. Based on this study; https://www.celiac.com/st_prod.html?p_prodi...-21105013793.ce and maybe a few others I have read in the past, I would stay away from oats. It's just not worth the risk. I know there are studies saying they are ok to eat, but if there is evidence showing a problem in some celiacs then it's too risky. That's just my opinion...
  4. Karen, I'm not sure if it's the same article as the one in the US, I just have the Canadian one. I assume it would be the same. Does anyone else know? -Carrie
  5. Congratulations on 3 years gluten free! I too have learned a lot about celiac from the internet and from this board.
  6. I brought a gluten free microwavable amy's dinner to my cousins before-wedding-dinner. All I did was heat it up while everyone else was getting their food at the buffet table and then I sat down with everyone and had fun! No one said anything to me and I didn't feel awkward or weird (The family understood).
  7. I'm in university now and I have celiac. I was diagnosed in March 2004 with celaic while I was in university. It was tough learning the gluten free diet while being in university but I had no choice! Maybe you could get a hotplate for your place or a mini stove or a toaster? That way you could cook/toast some things. Maybe your cafeteria could try and...
  8. I think I get geographic tongue too. When I eat certian foods/drinks, especially citrus drinks like five alive, my tongue gets all irritated and bumpy red lines appear (it kinda looks like mountains on a map)!
  9. My suggestion would be to go out and spend $15-20 on a good gluten free cookbook that has lots of yummy recipes and try making all your favorite foods (gluten free of course)! I have lots of gluten free cookbooks and I can usually find a recipe for whatever I want (if I can't then there are lots of gluten-free recipes on line) I try not to limit myself because...
  10. There was an article in Reader's Digest January 2005 (pgs 68-75) called "Diseases Doctors often miss" by Anne Paillard that discusses celiac disease (I don't know if Reader's Digest is sold in the USA since it is a Canadian magazine). The article talks about 9 diseases that doctors often miss or cannot always detect right away. Celiac disease is the third...
  11. No offense taken, I actually feel better knowing that I'm not alone as well. I try not to get discouraged but it's hard when I'm not feeling better. It seems to me that my gastro-intestinal track does not like any type of food. As soon as the food goes in, it bothers me until it's out. Today was a bad day... I have been feeling sick all day (diarrhea, gas...
  12. I totally understand how you feel, and I was actually going to post a topic like this... I started the gluten free diet on March 3rd, 2004 (about 2 weeks after you) and I'm still not better. I was diagnosed in March after a positive biopsy and + blood test. Like you, I was extremely sick before dianosis. I was underweight, diarrhea, excessive bloating...
  13. Hi! When I was very sick with celiac (before diagnosis) I lost close to 15 pounds and found it very hard to gain weight. I was underweight, I'm 5"6 and 3/4 (almost 5"7) and I was hovering around 112/114 pounds at the time. After being on the diet for almost 10 months I have gained some weight but not a noticable amount. I'm now about 119/120 pounds...
  14. That's too bad... It's really hard to believe that people can be that ignorant about the health of their loved ones. It's just sad actually... I would find it very hard to wtach someone act that way. Does she know the long term complications of Celiac Disease if left untreated, like cancer (Lymphoma and adenocarcinoma), osteoporosis, seizures, anemia....
  15. 1. Do you have Celiac Disease? Yes 2. Do you have Type I Diabetes? No 3. Sex Female
  16. When I found out my biopsy results I was very sad at first. I was thinking... this will be something I have to deal with my entire life and it was hard to comprehend at first... But then I realized that I could have had it much worse and even though it was going to be tough, I would still be able to enjoy life. When I was diagnosed, I decided that I was...
  17. Sorry I just got your second post now (after I sent the last one) Your symptoms sound a lot like celiac. I would definately try and get your doctor to do more testing. I had the Tissue transglutamase antibody tTGAB blood test, which is very specific and sensitive to celiac disease. This was the only blood test that I had done foe celiac and after I got...
  18. I personally did not do the enterolab testing but I think that the Gluten Sensitivity Stool and Gene Panel Complete would be the best one to get. With this test you will be able to see if you actually have the gene for celiac (It is expensive though). Also, I found this on the blood tests: Open Original Shared Link There is a description of the tests...
  19. I think I've had those too! (It was either those or the Gorilla ones) They are very good (I eat them plain since I can't have milk). I like supporting that company because part of the money goes toward helping the environment, endagered animals, and children. Also I finally found hemp hearts! I found them in a health food store. I'm probably going to get...
  20. I found a website with a list of tests for celiac disease and dh: Open Original Shared Link I have a few suggesstions for you... -You could ask your doctor to run the other blood tests for celiac disease -Try and get the endoscopy appoinmtent back (since the biopsies taken during the endoscopy would show villi damage if it is there). (If your doctor...
  21. I agree with Richard, The production of milk in a cow is a very complicated process, but I don't see how gluten would be in the milk. In general, the cow absorbs nutrients/vitamins/amino acids/fatty acids from its blood to produce milk. As far as I know, gluten cannot be transported into the bloodstream... so milk would not contain gluten. If you get...
  22. Thanks Richard, That is what I thought about the lays stax that is why I was surprized when I reacted so badly to them.
  23. The last time I tried lays chips (I had the regular lays stax) was late in the evening about a month ago. That night I woke up at 3am extremely sick and I spent a good hour in the bathroom. Trust me, it wasn't pretty. Their website says they are gluten free and I read somewhere that the stax were possibly produced on a separate line, which would mean no cross...
  24. Thanks very much! I love Welch's grape juice.
  25. If you just recently started the gluten-free diet, it may take awhile for your intestines to heal. This would mean that you may continue to have symptoms until your intestines are healed. If you've been on the diet for over 6 months then I would get additional tests done to make sure nothing else is going on. You're not alone though. I've been on the...
