I did some research on the connection between pancreatitis and celiac disease: Open Original Shared Link I was getting really concerned that I wasn't getting better after like 11 months on the diet, so I started doing a lot of research on other possible problems that I could have. Turns out I just needed longer to get better. I am fine now, unless I get...

ARCHIVED Does Anyone Avoid Dairy/casein Just Because?
Carriefaith replied to lorka150's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I avoid casein because when I take lactaid pills they don't seem to work, so I believe that I am casein intolerant. I do take medication with lactose in them because it seems like a lot of medications have lactose, but that is it. I also agree with this statement. You can get all you vitamins, amino acids, and minerals from other sources. Dairy products... -

I do almost all my own cooking and I use a lot of fresh and frozen veggies and fresh meat in my cooking. Here are some of my favorites all modified for the gluten-free diet. Feel free to ask for a recipe if you see something that you like. Stir fries (I make chinese, pepper steak, thai, sweet and sour, and regular) Recipe's from Thai Kitchen Open Original... -
ARCHIVED Can't Do The Biopsy
Carriefaith replied to Bonnie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I know that the gene test can be done; however, I don't know if all labs will do this test. I think they could test my mouth swab or blood test. I know that Enterolab will do the test. Here are some links: Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Can't Do The Biopsy
Carriefaith replied to Bonnie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
How annoying... If an official diagnosis is important to you and you cannot bring yourself to eat gluten for testing... (I understand... I could NOT go back to eating gluten now, or I would probably be in the hospital) maybe ask for a gene test to test for the celiac gene. If you have the gene and you are having nasty symptoms from eating gluten, then... -
ARCHIVED Going Gf Before Biopsy
Carriefaith replied to Nantzie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yeah some labs don't do certain tests anymore and some don't do them at all. At the hospital here, the IGG test is apperently the old celiac blood test and they do the tTg blood test now. However, I believe the IGG test can be done if requested. Also, I don't believe that they do gene testing here. Thai Kitchen is great. Pad Thai is my favorite. I have... -
I am sorry that you had to go through that I would be really upset if my friends treated me that way.

ARCHIVED Going Gf Before Biopsy
Carriefaith replied to Nantzie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Going gluten free can lead to false negative results on the biopsy and the blood tests. It is best to wait and start the gluten-free diet until after the blood tests and biopsies are done. I started the gluten-free diet the day of my biopsy That is true in a lot of cases. There are a lot of people, including myself, that can get extremely severe... -

It is hard sometimes to not get glutened, especially when your family members have gluten everywhere and if you eat out a lot. I still get glutened from time to time and I also wonder how some people can go for long times periods without getting glutened. I guess it makes sense if they live in a gluten free kitchen. Not all of us have that luxury though ...

ARCHIVED Wheat Free
Carriefaith replied to prince caspian's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Products labeled gluten free, would be fine. There are a lot of mainstream products that are gluten free but they don't indicate so on the label. I have a list if you are interested. You can email me at carriefj@hotmail.com and I'll give you the list. -

I think the bracelet would especially come in handy for eating out. I have been thinking of getting one that says Wheat Allergy and Celiac Disease, since I am also allergic to wheat.

ARCHIVED Casein Intolerance...
Carriefaith replied to Rachel--24's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I also can get gluten like reactions from dairy products. I usually get mostly GI symptoms from dairy like gas, bloating, D, nausea, gagging/dry vomiting. I am pretty sure that I am casein intolerant, but have never confirmed it with a doctor. -
ARCHIVED New To Site Help
Carriefaith replied to Jenn2005's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You are right, if your husband is seeking a diagnosis of celiac disease, then he must be eating a lot of gluten for a few months before the tests. Was his previous biopsy done while he was on the gluten free diet? Your husband could also be intolerant to gluten or another food like dairy, soy, corn, eggs, ect. Casein (the milk protein) can cause a lot of... -
ARCHIVED Wheat Free
Carriefaith replied to prince caspian's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Products that are labeled wheat free can still contain gluten such as rye, barely, or oats. If you want accurate test results, you must go back to eating gluten ASAP. If you are not eating gluten, then your body eventually stops producing antibodies and stops damaging the intestine, which are what they test for in celiacs (the presence of IGA and... -

I have a ton of cucumbers from our garden and would like to pickle them. Any of you guys have a good and yummy recipe? -
If you had a blood test that tested for IGA antibodies and it was negative, then you could be deficient in IGA antibodies. Some celiacs are deficient in these antibodies, which could explain the positive biopsy and negative blood test.

ARCHIVED Anyone Have A Double-decker?
Carriefaith replied to skbird's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yes, I'm in Canada and they do seem to give less sedation here than in the states, from what I hear anyway. When I was at the hospital, they said about 50% or so of patients do the endoscopy with no sedation at all. I might as well have had none myself when I had mine done, I felt and remembered everything. -

I know what you mean... I don't have a PF Changs around here either. This is a good thread for you, if you don't mind cooking. Open Original Shared Link I've made my own recipe and the lemon chicken. Both are very good and will satisfy the craving, at least for me anyway. -
