ARCHIVED Who Has Thyroid Issues

Basal body temperatures are what my doc uses to check up as well as the thyroid checks. -
ARCHIVED Holy Masabsorbtion, Batman!
mftnchn replied to JenKuz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, I just bumped this thread up and wonder if any of you have any further thoughts about malabsorption scores. I had been noticing that most did not come near my score level of 1322! Yet I have more trouble with weight gain than loss. Also I wonder if anyone knows more about tropical sprue and if constipation can also be caused by that. I have lived... -
ARCHIVED Adhd? Gluten Sensitivity? Any Help Would Be Great-
mftnchn replied to bec's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Food sensitivities are notorious for behavioral symptoms. However, each individual varies, so its hard to say what food until you do elimination and challenges. Seems like gluten and milk free would be a good place to start, and then perhaps wait on anything else until you see what the response is. Like we said on the other post, if he is still on... -
ARCHIVED Help Figuring Out Lab Results
mftnchn replied to bec's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Seems like trying to confirm celiac via blood and possible biopsy if he is still eating gluten would be very useful as it may give you more support from physicians in terms of the future. If the blood and biopsy is positive, no one will give you flack about whether or not he has celiac. Just my opinion though. The best test is does he feel better when... -
ARCHIVED Withdrawl?
mftnchn replied to dawnrose008's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi, sorry you are not feeling too well. I have had a very similar response; however I cut out dairy at the same time as gluten. I think it is probably likely that you are going through withdrawal from dairy, since you are just six days free. I'd say hang in there. I have been worse this past week, with the overwhelming fatigue and more GI symptoms... -
ARCHIVED Who Has Thyroid Issues
mftnchn replied to cause&effect's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi, add me to the list. I was first diagnosed with low thyroid in college, took synthroid for a couple of years. Then nothing, until I was thirty. Since then have been on varied doses of Armour Thyroid, 20 years or so. I'm gluten sensitive, Gluten-free Casein-free for a month. Haven't got the opportunity for blood tests and biopsy in my location... -
Welcome to this forum, and I am sorry to hear you are feeling so poorly. I get that creepy crawly feeling from reactions to chemicals. I am not sure of the answer for you though it sounds like your sensitivity might be getting worse. Are you still eating the foods that you know you are allergic to? Years ago I was in that state, and there are a...

ARCHIVED Need Test Info. & Address'es
mftnchn replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Wecome to the forum! Your doctor should be able to order the blood test panel for celiac. You can start there. He/she may not be aware about celiac but try to insist on the test. If your blood tests are positive he/she should schedule a biopsy. A good doctor will do that anyway if you have celiac symptoms because you can have negative blood tests... -
ARCHIVED Should I Feel Like This?
mftnchn replied to candi1008's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yes this is normal. Congratulations on the normal stool, that's a sign you are getting better. There can be withdrawal, and/or a lot of ups and downs during the healing process. People on this site have told me that once you go gluten-free you get even more sensitive to gluten, although this may settle down someday (months to years). Yes, you could... -
ARCHIVED New Celiac ( I Think ) Need Help!
mftnchn replied to thecookingnerd607's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi, if you are going to have a biopsy, going gluten free now may cause the results to be false negative! Hope you know that. -
ARCHIVED Which Lab, Which Tests For Other Food Intolerances?
mftnchn replied to JamiD's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Its been a long time since I read and reviewed all of this stuff. My understanding though is that the the IgA mediated response works for food allergies but may show nothing for food intolerances. I am using food intolerance in the sense that by only eating the food once in 4 days or more as you discover your level of tolerance, you can continue to eat... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab
mftnchn replied to confusedks's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Kassandra, Hang in there, there are lots of people here with suggestions to try! It might need more time. Also since you are only gluten-free for 15 days, it also could be some source of gluten you haven't discovered yet. I've been at it a month and keep finding more. Yesterday it was the shampoo which I hadn't yet checked. (Well I read... -

ARCHIVED Enterolab
mftnchn replied to confusedks's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Enterolab is not generally accepted because Dr. Fine has not published is work in a peer-reviewed journal. This article by a GI was helpful for me: Open Original Shared Link I didn't try to check up on the author, however it looks to me like he has good qualifications. Most people that post here about Enterolab seem to find that their experience... -
ARCHIVED Confused...
mftnchn replied to Babygirl6915's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yes, I think before eating gluten again you should really press him for why this is necessary. Positive biopsy should be the gold standard that doesn't ever need re-doing for diagnosis. Sounds like someone who doesn't understand celiac. This attack sounds awful and I hope he feels better soon. -

ARCHIVED Brain Fog Or Withdrawal Symptoms
mftnchn replied to whattodo's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think it is normal to go through withdrawal. This is very common with food allergies, and is often the 3rd to 5th days after stopping the allergen. Though that can vary from person to person. I don't know how celiac might be different, but I had the withdrawal 1.5 days I expected about the 3rd day out. But then I just have gone up and down since.... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Feel Better After First Going Gluten-free, Then Worse Again?
mftnchn replied to GFinMN's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi, I am about 1 month into the gluten-free diet, both gluten and milk free. I have found it to be a very up and down road, with some improvement for awhile with constipation, but mostly worse. I have gleaned from this board that sometimes that is the case, that we become more sensitive, and that we just have to hang in there for the long haul. Today... -

ARCHIVED The Most Delicious Home-made Gluten Free Bread I've Ever Tasted...
mftnchn replied to mamatide's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thanks I had better success with the latest attempt, put it all in a very small loaf pan and increased the yeast just a bit. I haven't tried a glass pan, its hard to find any baking pans out here. My only problem was the oven temp is not working well here at my office/apt kitchen so the bread is not done in the middle. This is in another city... -
ARCHIVED Testing Question
mftnchn replied to bugstabber's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, what blood work was negative? Elevated liver enzymes are not specific for celiac, but do indicate stress on the liver which could be from a number of sources. Are you taking any medications that might cause that? -
ARCHIVED What I Don't Understand
mftnchn replied to cathybee's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi, just wonder if they also checked you for Lyme disease? Sound like you didn't have a biopsy? Also have you been really strict on the gluten free or just avoiding obvious wheat products? I am glad you are asking, and hopefully you'll get a number of responses that will help you. -
ARCHIVED Testing Question
mftnchn replied to bugstabber's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Probably if you have been without gluten your tests wouldn't show too much. These symptoms seem similar to a lot of people on this forum. -
ARCHIVED Does This Sound Familiar?
mftnchn replied to shiloh33's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi, some people don't have weight loss at all, and some even have weight gain from bloating and edema. Bloating is very common. Since celiac is not the only explanation for your symptoms, I think it really makes sense to check it out. -
ARCHIVED Iga Was High, Blood Was Neg For celiac disease. Biopsy Q's!
mftnchn replied to micaela27's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, not sure, but looks like they didn't biopsy the small intestine during your endoscopy which would be how celiac would be diagnosed. Have you tried the diet yet?
