ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
mftnchn replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Well I think I am detoxing on my second day of repeating the SCD intro, so either I added some things too fast, or I just still have a bunch of bad bugs to clear... Recently I had been seeing a lot of undigested food again. Might be 2-3 days a month on the intro would speed things along. -

Pele, that's helpful. Making nut butter seems a lot easier. I'm still experimenting with options. -

Cholestyramine sounds like one I better get tested in January. Dr. E may have tried it already, likely did. My body has been particular, LOL. Yesterday we did some cleaning, sorting, reorganizing to move some stuff out of the bedroom. My allergies went crazy and still today. Feels like the mold reaction, but it could also be dust. My DH's desk/office... -

Ali, you might be interested in the book on the Gut and Psychology...or are you the one who mentioned it on here? Fig girl, I find the lactobacillus acidophilus yogurt very mild as well. I love it. The other probiotic that I have here has chickory, FOS and inulin, and I think it also has bifidus in it. Shay, getting the probiotic is tough, huh? ... -

I would get cramps in my lower legs including feet and toes. ANY stretching, toe pointing or whatever, immediately made it far far worse. Walking it out helped some. It was happening several times a night and lasting 5 minutes or more so I went searching for answers.... The soap worked but there was discussion of what brands were best. -
ARCHIVED Questions About Enterolab?

My two tests took the full three weeks to get the results. Don't know why the difference if they were sent together but you can always call them. -

Well I laughed out loud when I read it but read it repeatedly on the net. There is one type of soap that doesn't work according to many but can't remember which brand. I finally decided couldn't hurt to try, and it seemed to help significantly. I've only rarely had a spell since, and not as severe. I am sure it wasn't giving my toes more room--putting... -

April, I had that happen quite often for a period of time. It was horrible. I think you were doing the right thing to take the cal/mag. Something weird but that helped me was putting a bar of soap in the bed under the sheet near my feet. No one seems to know why this works but I wonder if it has to do with the electric charge or something. The... -

April, if you daugher is drinking the yogurt okay, maybe you could put a little water in a cup and add the honey, melt it in the microwave. Then add your yogurt and stir. It would be more runny but maybe she wouldn't care. -
ARCHIVED 5 Year Old Recently Diagnosed--suuplements?
mftnchn replied to Julia's mom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I can't speak about children but my own severe malabsorption has been a major problem and I have been heavily supplementing. Finally when to IM injections of everything I could--and am getting more good from them. Elsewhere someone suggested a DAN doctor (treats autism in kids) would know a lot about supplementation, my impression is that most doctors... -

I agree the almond flour stuff is much more tasty. Looking forward to trying more once I get the process down for making flour. Thanks fig girl for that idea. I don't use almond milk so I probably won't bother with all of that, its a good idea though to make flour from the leftover. I think I have a way now to do the almonds just straight; the... -

Massage will overwhelm me with toxins too, especially if I do it twice in close proximity. Carla, I am with you on ecoffee helping far more than anything else; not that the other doesn't help--I do it too! -

mftnchn replied to bakingbarb's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Barb is the reaction common to all your baking or just the cake you mentioned? I wonder about switching out xanthan gum and guar gum. Do you eat eggs separately from baking withou problems? Maybe an easy way to test the various ingredients would be making pancakes? -

Good news, Carla, glad this is much better. Andrea, how exciting! Both times with friends, and the makeover...I will want to see pictures! And you have Donna's EM to play with too. Hoping for word about Kassandra... I feel much worse today (fatigue/foggy/asthma) and hope the ecoffee helps. Put on a mosquito repeller (tablet on an electric thing... -

ARCHIVED Help With Severe Malabsorption

I agree about the DAN doctors, hopefully they can really help with the gut issues. Also the "easy to digest" is important, I think, as well. However, I think meat isn't really hard to digest like the other things mentioned above. You might check out www.pecanbread.com. It is dedicated to SCD approach, but that is also gluten-free. The kids on it... -

Kassandra, I'm relieved that Dr. H is very on top of things and that you won't be having those iron IV's any time soon. However the iron level problem sure needs a solution. Does Dr. H think the thyroid connection mentioned by Nora might be a possibility? Could it be iron loving bugs in the gut that could be tested for? Good practical way to spend your... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)

Well I think I am making progress; I found almonds with just salt today, should be okay. Also I discovered that I maybe can use an appliance I already have for making the almond flour. Its a grinder that I bought for grinding gluten-free grains--but the typical use here is for grinding up herbs for Chinese medicine. They told me when I bought it, it was... -
What you need as far as a diagnosis is an individual decision and all decisions are respected here. Going through the testing involved may find another problem altogether or confirm this as the main problem. A firm diagnosis may make it easier in terms of family members, especially because confirmed celiac in the family means all first degree relatives...

mftnchn replied to thundersweet's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, what I understand about the labs is a positive is a positive, and the "high" or "low" positive isn't such an important distinction. The thing you may wish to try to determine is if he is gluten sensitive (could be various reasons) or celiac.
