  1. Sure sounds like more than a flu bug to me. Maybe allergies, elimination diet is the best approach for that. All testing is limited--and strengths of positives may not correspond to symptoms. Negative blood tests don't totally rule out celiac. I assume you have the full 5 tests recommended here? Would your DH believe Enterolab testing?
  2. duplicate post
  3. I think perhaps part of my problem is egg and or the almonds I got here. I added apple this morning, then added one piece of muffin later. The apple seemed fine but after the muffin I had symptoms I also had not eaten eggs over the last three days, so I'll need to check those as well, but I am thinking the almonds... Could be something added to the...
  4. Bragg isn't soy free but is wheat free.
  5. Be sure that the blood tests included all five recommended tests. If his total IgA is low, it means the tests are no good as he cannot produce enough IgA for the test to show. Also negative blood tests with positive biopsy is still very possible. I'd ask the doctor to pursue having the biopsy done. Remember that blood tests and biopsy must be completed...
  6. Open Original Shared Link This talks about why kefir could be a problem and maybe where to find help to address these issues. I'm thinking it might be wise for me to take it slow, and wait until my next visit back to the USA to try the kefir. Shay, your response to it sure is intriguing and encouraging!
  7. I wonder if you just need to wait a little longer on the peaches. Another thing is to trial do another try in a few days with organic peaches. I suppose if you have a lot of candida, the fruit and honey might cause gas. The book says if you have candida you might have to be stricter for awhile.
  8. Welcome to the forum. Sounds like you have worked very hard to adjust to the gluten-free lifestyle and are very careful. Here's a few ideas I have thought of: Take the foods you are eating (brands from your list) and do a search here on the forum. Some of the more sensitive celiacs may have posted about discovering those foods have CC issues. You...
  9. I'm in China, and my housekeeper just uses salt. Another idea is Thai fish sauce. I miss it too but the garlic, ginger, vinegar, salt, sesame oil, fish sauce, etc. all are great and make wonderful Chinese food. There are a few dishes that my housekeeper comments would be more flavorful with soy sauce. But I find what we are doing pretty satisfying.
  10. I'm not sure what the science behind the amylose free is. What I have read is that most vegetables are a combination of amylose and amylopectin, and it is the latter that is hard to digest. The specific carbohydrate diet (Breaking the Vicious Cycle) discusses this issue. The SCD approach eliminates sugars that have to be broken down, grains, vegetables...
  11. April, I suppose I'd use a couple of capsules. One is really okay, but we're going for the higher organism count. Well three days on the intro, and except for a slight detox feeling for a little while, and some loss of fluid I was apparently retaining, there hasn't been much change. So I think the progressed diet wasn't that problematic. Unfortunately...
  12. Thanks, I'll look into it. I may have to wait awhile until I have a visitor who can hand carry some starter to me. But I'll keep my eye out for it.
  13. That makes sense. In August when I had a colonoscopy I went in feeling pretty out of it from the prep. When they started the IV's (two tries) it about killed me--especially the failed one in the hand I was complaining--because usually it hardly phases me. The nurse said that the prep seems to really increase people's sensitivity. Much smaller scale...
  14. Kassandra, Wow, seems like you could have had a much smoother and easier time. Very disconcerting about the pain. Are you still in the hospital? Andrea, sometimes your skype messages take a long time to arrive....weird. Sorry I missed you. Looking forward to hearing more about your new look! Sherry
  15. If celiac disease is advanced enough to cause significant damage to the villi, if you have a good doctor who does multiple biopsy samples and a good lab to do the pathology reports, you have a good chance of a positive biopsy. However, there can still be negative blood and biopsy results but a very positive response to the diet. So once you finish your...
  16. I had my prescription refilled for 6 months in July/August, and no 60 mg tablets were available. My prescription was filled with a combo of 90 mg and 30 mg. So I take one 90 and 2 30'd every day. I thought it was pretty weird that they couldn't order 60 mg's. But this is working okay. I don't have to cut any tablets in half now, which is nice. Hmm...
  17. Yes, and don't forget all the gut components to this picture. Many digestive enzymes, the balance of flora, impact on immune system, development of toxic compounds by bad bacteria, plus in general the ability to excrete. Like with me, I can't digest most carbs, don't make much bile apparently, take mucho heavy pancreatic enzymes, have lots of freeloaders...
  18. April, I'd go back to the Kirkman, I think. But if you use the starter you have once, then use your own to start, the amount of sucrose will decrease with every batch. Shay, that is fascinating. I don't have anything loose, just not passing much again, and what I do is narrow--like there is a spasm going on. At first on the SCD everything looked really...
  19. April, I'd go back to the Kirkman, I think. But if you use the starter once, then use your own to start, the amount of sucrose will decrease with every batch. Shay, that is fascinating. What do I use for starter though? I think I have seen kefir in Beijing, but not in my city.
  20. Rachel this all makes sense to me.
  21. If she's fine without the supplements, that's a good clue. I'd recommend that you keep her off for 5 days and observe. If all is fine, try them one at a time. If a symptom comes up drop that one, wait a couple of days until she is well again, then try the next one. Once you know which one/ones is causing the problem, then look at the ingredients. ...
  22. Mike, my impression of the forum is that response time varies considerably. I think if you see any kind of change, good or bad, that is a good clue to stick with it for awhile. I saw a positive change in constipation problems about 10 days out; it lasted for 10 days, then was worse again. However for me that was a 10 day period the likes of which I never...
  23. First of all, perhaps you know this, but the alternating constipation and watery stool is a very common presentation for celiac. So I think you are on the right track. Also, I think it is very possible he will go through a process of changes before getting more normal. It may be that the first step is that the intestinal peristalsis is starting to normalize...
  24. I am not sure about it, but have always read that you should not add anything during fermentation. My LLMD said that the issue about what bacteria are in the probiotic is that some strains have a tendency to mutate. It is also the concern that drives the instructions to use fresh starter every time (but he says that is not necessary). Perhaps sugar/honey...
  25. Yay on the continued improvement, Carla. Donna, hope all the preparations for surgery are going okay for you. I have problems remembering to drink water too, I rarely feel thirsty. Sherry
