  1. I really like their granola. I have the cinnamon and the berry. I put some in my yogurt. They also make a ryeless rye bread which I enjoy. The bagels need some work though. They are a dedicated gluten free facility which is nice. We are so lucky to have all these options, aren't we?
  2. Over Fathers day I made ribs from a recipe by Dana Carpenter that I got off the internet. It included making your own rub, your own ketchup and your own barbeque sauce. It was fantastic! So when I saw she had a book called 500 low carb recipes, I ordered it, even though I'm not a carb counter. The book arrived yesterday and is full of great recipes that...
  3. I wrote to Sunmaid raisins as I love raisins and was in a paranoid state. I asked if there was any flour used anywhere to either coat the belts or prevent them from sticking together or if there was any airborne chance of contamination. Yesterday evening my phone rang and it was this lady from Sunmaid, calling me to let me know their product is wholly gluten...
  4. Bette, Be careful about buying just any brand of corn tortillas. If they are processed in a plant with flour tortillas, they could be cross contaminated. That's why Mission is so beloved by us, as it is in a separate facility. I bought some Whole Foods corn tortillas and wrote them to ask why they were not on their gluten free list. They responded that...
  5. Your best bet is to go on their website and download their gluten-free menu and take it with you to the restaurant. Lay it on the table and make a point of showing it to your waiter and ordering off it. Ask for the gluten-free soy sauce and have him make the special sauce with it. Order a soda or water to drink and enjoy!
  6. I love their Ginger Chews! I called the company to ask if they were gluten free and she said they were but they couldn't put it on the label as they hadn't received their "certificate" of gluten freedom yet. I eat them everyday. I've only had the original flavor but they have a peanut flavor as well as one other.
  7. I've used Sweet Baby Rays with no problem and my new favorite is Bone Sucking Sauce which says gluten free right on the bottle. I also have been known to make my own sauce if time permits.
  8. My take on this is that they are waffling due to the distilled vinegar in their flavored yogurts. As that is still a bone of contention amongst Celiacs they don't want to commit. I am extremely sensitive and eat their yogurts regularly. They have probiotics (sp) in them that actually soothe my stomach. As for which grain is distilled, that makes no difference...
  9. Yes, I'm pretty sure that's exactly what they mean. If it is someone else's brand it usually will say so like Celebrity Healthy Ham...
  10. Here is the reply I got to my inquiry about possible cross contamination from their new lines of breads and onion rings, etc. Dear Terri, Thank you for your interest in Alexia Foods! We are pleased to inform you that our potato products will continue to be gluten free. Our new Alexia Artisan Breads and Appetizers are produced in a separate facility...
  11. Always ask if they make their own dressing or if it comes from a bottle. Nine times out of ten, at a good restaurant they will make their own. If they say they do, ask what the ingredients are. Usually it's olive oil, garlic, a little wine vinegar and some fresh herbs. If that's the case go ahead and have it. I always carry Annie's packets of salad dressing...
  12. Jen Thanks for posting the website. However, when I went there I found they have added lots of new gluten containing products! So, I wrote them the following: Hello, I notice you have added breads and onion rings and other products containing gluten to your repertoire. How does that affect the gluten free status of your fries? Are these gluten containing...
  13. That warning has been on them for a least a year. I bought Hot-Kids Rice'ems Onion flavored crackers as they said "Gluten Free, Low Cholestrol" on the package. They were incredibly tasty. And I got sicker than I have been in over a year. I looked at the package again and it said product of Taiwan. Tried to find a website for them but couldn't. Noticed one...
  14. I bought my own fryer and Alexia Julienned fries (they say gluten free right on the package) and they are better tasting than anything I've had in a restaurant! You just deep fry them 3 minutes and they're done. So cheer up! I'm sure she'll like "mommy's fries" better than Wendys!

    ARCHIVED La Madeline

They have the salmon separate in a foil package that they put on top of your salad. Same with the chicken. I used to eat there all the time before I was diagnosed. Their bread is awesome and their Napoleons.....Fond memories.
  16. Just got back from PF Changs for lunch. All this discussion made me hungry! Anyhow, I had the lettuce wraps and for the first time ordered the Oriental Chicken Salad without the fried wontons. It was excellent! In fact it just may be my new favorite thing! Once again I stayed away from their tea as I think it is flavored, and just had water with lemon...

    ARCHIVED La Madeline

I have eaten there a couple of times. I always get a salad as I can stand right there and watch them make it. I make sure the bowl is clean and she has on fresh gloves and I use my own dressing. It's not my top choice as I still worry about cross contamination there. I usually get the salmon as I don't know if the chicken has been marinated. I've gotten...
  18. I LOVE those Glutino bread sticks! I put butter on it and it totally satisfies the bread thing for me. And, they are low in calories! 6 of them for 40 calories! YUM!!!
  19. Utz are the only brand you'll find in our house. I wrote them about their new natural brand chips and salsa and he replied : Our natural line of chips are gluten free. We do not make the salsa. It should be okay but I cannot guarantee it. Don Dir., Technical Services Utz Quality Foods, Inc. 900 High Street Hanover, PA 1...
  20. I got sick off of pistachio nuts that I bought in the grocery store. I have since learned that they sometime flour the belts of the nut factories and sometimes spray them. I now get all my nuts from Nuts 4 U where they understand Celiac and even sell gluten free mixes. I was in an upscale restaurant and ordered a salad that had pistachio nuts on it and the...
  21. I eat there but have never ordered a dish that says substitute anything. I figure it is safer that way. Supposedly part of their kitchen is gluten free. I have never gotten sick there and I eat at two different locations. There are meals I want to try but I think I'll just play it safe with the "tried and true".
  22. Here is the reply I received from Mike's Hard Lemonade. Thank you for taking the time to contact mike's hard lemonade. Mike's products available in the US are lemon clear malt based ( fermented barley beer malt) beverages. In independent lab analysis mike's products do not contain any traces of gluten protein, however, our products are bottled in multiple...
  23. Thanks Nini, I just went on their website and ordered some! Along with no rye rye bread and pizzas and a pie shell. Now I'm excited! I had no idea gluten-free onion rolls were out there. YUM! Terri
  24. I wrote to OPI asking which of their products contained gluten. Here is their response: Gluten Free? The following OPI products contain hydrolyzed wheat protein, which will have traces of gluten: Original Nail Envy Matte Nail Envy Nail Envy, Dry & Brittle Nail Envy, Sensitive & Peeling Nail Envy, Soft & Thin At this time, all other...
