ARCHIVED New Here With So Many Questions! Skin, Other Allergies...?
ravenwoodglass replied to Cortney's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
If your not tolerating the whey protein perhaps you could try hemp protein instead? Instead of mixing it with milk Almond milk would be another alternative or mix it with rice milk, just not Rice Dream as that isn't safe for us as it is processed with barley. Try to make sure you are getting a complete protein, like rice and beans for example. You can... -
ARCHIVED A Farewell... Beating My Symptoms
ravenwoodglass replied to josh052980's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Glad to hear your sticking around and that you are feeling better. Once we get used to the diet there is such a world of great food around it is hardly a plain chicken and rice every day existance. Although as a coincidence that is what I am having for dinner tonight. Of course I also made broccoli and a yummy pumpkin pie to go with it. -
ARCHIVED Vision Problems Related To Celiac Disease?
ravenwoodglass replied to melikamaui's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't think it has anything to do with being celiac. My vision was pretty consistent, but real bad at -250, for most of my life. We didn't know I needed glasses until I was 7 or so and I will never forget seeing leaves on a tree for the first time. I needed bifocals at a pretty young age, late 30's and my number for reading has gotten a bit worse after... -
ARCHIVED Sooo Tired, Hair Loss, No Stamina
ravenwoodglass replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Yea I am not an experimenter. The most I would take until I see a doctor is an already added B-complex. The only thing I know about collodial silver is about the guy that turned blue from using it too much. -

ravenwoodglass replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thanks for the info IH. I personally wouldn't touch the collidal silver and since I have no heartburn or other GI symptoms I don't think the I need any medicating for that sort of thing. I had a very bad experience with a ND who was supposed to be the best in my state and don't trust them any more than I trust regular doctors. You would think an ND would... -
ARCHIVED Is It Too Late To Do Anything? (Celiac And Probable 22Q.)
ravenwoodglass replied to RK22q's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The other posters have given you some good advice. I think you gave up on the diet too early and may not have been doing all we need to do to keep ourselves safe. It is a learning process. You are in the right place to learn what you need to do. I became celiac in early childhood and progressed very, very far in the 40 or so years it took until I was finally... -
ARCHIVED New Here With So Many Questions! Skin, Other Allergies...?
ravenwoodglass replied to Cortney's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Welcome to the board. It is best to eliminate both dairy and soy at first until you are well healed. Once you have been feeling better add them back in one at a time and see how you tolerate them. We do have some here that are vegetarians so you may want to do another topic asking for specific advice from them. If you can go with a whole food unprocessed... -
I second the B12 suggestion but do get the sublingual form of it as it will be absorbed by your oral mucous membranes bypassing the damaged gut. You may also be low in magnesium and should make sure your for sure gluten-free vitamin regime includes it. Your anxiety may resolve a bit gluten free but it can take some time. Those of us with neuro issues do...

The most toxic things in the house right now are the kitties litter boxes. Seriously though I don't even use toxic cleaners just soap on most stuff and a dust cloth when the mood strikes. I am a glass artist but I do mosaics and don't use lead came. I was useing it years ago when my neuro symptoms were progressing at a fast pace and stopped and went... -
Yes low gluten intake can skew the results of blood tests and endo. The gene tests can not say for sure one way or the other is someone has celiac as many have the genes and never develop celiac and then there are diagnosed celiacs that do not have the most common genes. You might still show positive on the stool tests but most doctors do not accept those...

Thanks, I have no ulcer symptoms at all. In fact no GI isses whatsoever unless I am glutened or soyed. I am off to get some vitamins and see what I have to do to get the sliding fee scale at the clinic. Thanks for the hugs. I'll let everyone know how things go. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Maybe?
ravenwoodglass replied to sdanger's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes it is possible to have celiac and have negative blood tests. At least your doctor advised you to try the diet, none of my ever even mentioned it. It sounds like you are getting good results with the diet. Some of us do have additional intolerance with soy and casien (dairy) being the most common. If you can go with whole foods for a while and then... -

My ex-GI found H. Pylori on the endo he did but he said almost everyone has it and it didn't need to be treated. Of course he is also the same GI who demanded the second challenge that almost killed me. I will mention that when I see the doctor at the clinic. I didn't know the two could be connected. -

ravenwoodglass replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I think I have found what my weird rash is. It looks just like pictures of ITP. That might explain my nasty GI bleeds when I get glutened too. Doesn't explain the hair loss and fatigue but I am going to work on improving my diet. I made a big pot of a tomato, onion, lima bean, Chi Chi stew with just a bit of ground beef and froze some for my work days. I... -

Thanks for the link. The skin discoloration I have is red and bruise like and thankfully I don't have many other symptoms of Whipple. GI stuff is fine and Whipple has a lot of GI stuff associated with it. -
ARCHIVED Help! Biopsy? Should I Do It?
ravenwoodglass replied to BrittLoves2Run's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You may want to consult with an endocrinologist for the thyroid issues. As far as the celiac goes IMHO your doctor is spot on. If the diet solves your issues and the repeat bloodwork done at 3 to 6 months shows your levels have gone down then you are diagnosed. Your doctor does sound like a bit of a jerk though. -
ARCHIVED Booked In For Endoscopy! Argh!
ravenwoodglass replied to *charliesmum*'s topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Did you have a positive blood test? If you did you need the diet regardless of the endo results. You won't be really sleepy after you are done with the procedure but you can't drive if you have had sedation. Is there any way that you can get someone to drive you home? My concern is that because you won't be sedated the doctor might just do one or two biopsies... -
ARCHIVED When Your Upper Gi Guy Bets You A Free Endoscopy...
ravenwoodglass replied to harleyridnusmcbrat's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'll raise both hands and wave them. You do sound like one of us. They should do vitamin and mineral panel. If your celiac tests are positive it is a good idea to have a bone scan done. Even if your tests are negative after testing is finished do give the diet a good strict try for a few months. -
Can you get copies of the tests so you know what antibodies they were talking about? If you are in the US you have a legal right to copies. Without knowing what the antibodies are it is impossible to really say what is going on.

ARCHIVED gluten-free Daughter With Anxiety
ravenwoodglass replied to GFmomanddaughter's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Instead of her falling asleep in your bed could you try laying down with her in her bed? The walk back to her bed may be waking her up too much. Do you have a regular bed time routine? Having my kids go to bed but telling them they could read for 1/2 hour or I would read to them helped them to relax a bit. A warm tub bath 1/2 hour before bedtime can also... -

I would replace what I bolded. I would also replace the toaster since many gluten-free breads are better toasted.
