Are you avoiding iodine in food and supplements as well as toiletries? You don't need iodine to have a DH outbreak but it does keep the antibodies active in the skin. Personally I wouldn't go the Dapsone route. It is a pretty toxic med. If you do decide to use it for the short term make sure the doctor does regular liver panels on you and does one before...

ARCHIVED New And Need Help With Tests
ravenwoodglass replied to kate12345's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the board. The DGP is the newest and most specific test for celiac. If it is positive she needs the diet. Don't start until after she has an endo. Then on the day that is done start her on the diet. You don't have to wait for the biopsy results. Read as much as you can here and ask any questions you need to. You also should now get all first degree... -
ARCHIVED My Daughter Is Having Eight Teeth Extracted
ravenwoodglass replied to SilverSlipper's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hopefully taking out those two that haven't come to the surface yet will help keep the permanent teeth from being as overcrowded. I also have a small jaw and had to have four pulled before I got braces so it isn't unusual. Glad it is an oral surgeon that is doing it. I hope all goes well for her. -
ARCHIVED Promise Land Products
ravenwoodglass replied to kpk0112's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
When in doubt call the company. The only place there could be gluten is the natural flavoring in the form of barley malt but there is a good chance it is safe. -
ARCHIVED Suicide Rate Amoung Coeliac/celiacs
ravenwoodglass replied to UnhappyCoeliac's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
The key to my answer is what I have bolded. They would not routinely do any GI biopsies on autopsy with someone who has committed suicide. I do know that if I hadn't had any children when I was on my long and painful road to diagnosis I would be one of the unknown statistics. I did commit suicide at 11 when the neuro symptoms hit me really hard but thankfully... -
ARCHIVED Determined To Try Gluten Relief
ravenwoodglass replied to alicewa's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If it worked they would have sold millions. This is snake oil period. You will be risking a lot if you try to avoid the diet with products like this. Just take a good look at some of the signatures of those of us who went years without diagnosis. Rely on this stuff and you can have a sig like that too. I know how badly you want this diagnosis to just be... -

ARCHIVED Emotional Scars From Celiac
ravenwoodglass replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I do get out now for the last 2 years or so. I just do stuff during the early day. I did have to get to the point where I had hardly left my house in years before I got the strength to fight though. As they say when life gives you lemons you make lemonade. Sometimes it just takes some time to find the squeezer. In your other post you refer to needing to... -
ARCHIVED My Daughter Is Having Eight Teeth Extracted
ravenwoodglass replied to SilverSlipper's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yea I would question the need to remove the two that haven't surfaced yet also at her age. I would also get a second opinion on that. They told me as a teen that mine should be dug out, and said the same for my son. In both our cases the teeth have never given us any problems. My DD did have hers out because they were causing issues but not until they started... -
ARCHIVED New! Biopsy For The Folks On gluten-free Diet
ravenwoodglass replied to lcarter's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This appears to be an invitro form of the mucosal challenge used in some countries. In that one they insert a gluten suppository or use a gluten swab in the cheek and then biopsy the tissue a few hours later. Both methods to me seem much more humane and specific than the barbaric practice of putting us through a food challenge that makes us sick for months... -
ARCHIVED Are Jamieson Vitamins Ok?
ravenwoodglass replied to Silencio's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't know about that particular brand. You might want to contact the company directly and inquire. I take NOW most of the time and some Country Life. -
ARCHIVED Emotional Scars From Celiac
ravenwoodglass replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have PTSD from all the years of illness and being unable to leave the house becuase of my celiac symptoms combined with other life experiences. It actually got worse after diagnosis because I don't like taking pills and no longer needed the handful that I would have to take prediagnosis just to go to the store. But the fear of getting sick in public didn... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Stuffing Mix
ravenwoodglass replied to WinterSong's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use Grainless Baker stuffing mix. Wegmans carries it if you have a Wegmans near you. If your local store stocks any Grainless Baker products you could ask if they can get some. -
ARCHIVED Does She Have A Problem?
ravenwoodglass replied to Lori2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If her diet is already low gluten that can cause false negatives on testing. It wouldn't be a bad idea for her to go strictly gluten free and see if it helps. -
ARCHIVED Fiance Had UC/J-Pouch & Now Celiacs, In Over My Head....
ravenwoodglass replied to learning's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Welcome to the board. I know this new diagnosis seems daunting and it does take some getting used to but it is very doable. Celiac is genetic but not everyone who has the genes will develop celiac. When you have children there is no certainty that they will or will not ever develop it but you will know to have them checked if they have symptoms. In the... -
ARCHIVED I'm The 1st Diagnosed With Celiac
ravenwoodglass replied to RVluvin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am the first one diagnosed but my children were tested after I was and my Mom was clearly celiac and my twin brother may have been also. I have an aunt who also was likely celic and chances are we had many more family members who were and are but are undiagnosed. -
ARCHIVED Bugger. Think I Got Glutened Last Night
ravenwoodglass replied to Britgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you had gluten free pasta while he ate regular pasta did you drain it in the same strainer? That will get you. Many also use the same spoon to stir pasta and the sauce and perhaps that happened with both pastas and the same spoon. -
ARCHIVED Bugger. Think I Got Glutened Last Night
ravenwoodglass replied to Britgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sorry this happened to you. Pepto Bismal liquid usually helps me with the stomach pain. Do you know what 'got you'? Anyway I hope your feeling better soon. -
ARCHIVED "drunk" After Eating Other Foods Like Broccoli, Rutabega, Avocado, Banana?
ravenwoodglass replied to PeachBlossoms's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I was reading Discover's magazines new issue last night. One the last page they have an article entitled '20 Things you never knew about alcohol'. In it they state that a candida infection when severe can cause the body to convert foods into alcohol within the system. I wonder if perhaps that is what is going on with you. Have you ever been checked for a... -
ARCHIVED Mother And Aunt Have Positive Aga Iga But Negative Igg
ravenwoodglass replied to alicewa's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Did they have a total IGA done? If they are IGA deficient the IGA tests will be a false negative for sure. -
ARCHIVED Is Kamut Gluten-free?
ravenwoodglass replied to happyslob's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Plus some of us don't develop real serious symptoms until adulthood. Since celiac often requires a trigger event for women that trigger can be childbirth. By then of course the associated genes have been passed. -
ARCHIVED Processed Meat That's Produced In A Gluten Free Facility?
ravenwoodglass replied to Joe0123's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Maybe it is too much grease for your system? I eat that bacon all the time and never had any issues with it and I am pretty sensitive to even trace amounts of gluten. -
ARCHIVED How Long Does It Take? Calling All Celiac And Dh Sufferers!
ravenwoodglass replied to Sam81's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You have made progress on the gluten free diet so you might want to stick with it a bit longer. If you are having issues with what may be DH you might want to drop iodine for a bit and make sure all your topicals are gluten free. If you do want to try going back to gluten you may find yourself feeling even worse than you did before you got on the diet....
