  1. How long have you been gluten free? If it is more than a day or two it is likely your test will be a false negative. Even on a full gluten diet there are high rates of false negatives. Ataxia is tough and it does have symptoms that are very similiar to MS. I was thought to have MS for quite a while. The good news is that gluten free your ataxia should get...
  2. I may have to go back to mine. I am finding it hard to eat without my little guy to share my food with. Pulling back into my driveway is torture as he was always looking for me sitting on the back of my couch at the window. I took his food to a no kill shelther yesterday and spent a couple hours there petting the dogs and the cats and talking to the kind...
  3. Both of these are gluten challenges. In your case since you have a family history of celiac, you had a positive blood test and you have responded well to the diet and have problems if you injest gluten I would consider myself diagnosed.
  4. I had pretty good luck putting the words gluten free restaurant and my zip code in a search engine. Quite a few places showed up within 50 miles or so. I was really surprised. Maybe give that a try.
  5. There are many of us who do remain sensitive to cross contamination even after years on the diet. I would never go on a first date to a restaurant. Dating can be a tough issue but there are lots of things we can do that do not involve food. Eating at a restaurant isn't the only choice or IMHO a good one for the first or second date. I would rather go to a...
  6. False negatives are not uncommon at all unfortunately. You could go back on gluten for a bit and have an endoscopy with biopsies but even those have a high rate of false negatives. Your body will give you the answer though. If you feel better without gluten and adding gluten back in makes you ill then you have your answer. Do be strict with eliminating it...
  7. I think whether the diet helps or not depends on whether the MS was a misdiagnosis. The lesions that are found with MS on an MRI are very similiar to the lesions that can be caused by celiac, UBOs. I was also thought to have MS when lesions were found on my MRI but the doctor said they were not in the right place. Some doctors would have diagnosed but he...
  8. Me too. For years I pushed my Mom to go back to working as a secretary instead of doing housekeeping and taking in ironing. It wasn't until I was unable to do anything without a bathroom close by and lived in constant pain that I understood. I know my kids love me. They just don't understand how much I need to hear from them and likely won't until I am gone...
  9. Only when I forget my meds Just kidding.
  10. If you had positive blood work you are celiac. You say you started the diet 3 weeks ago. If you do want to get a biopsy you need to go back on gluten immediately for a few weeks before you go. However no matter what the test results you need to do the diet strictly to heal. We are here to help in any way that we can.
  11. Hi and welcome. Have you deglutened your kitchen? You need to replace your toaster with one dedicated to gluten free only, replace scratched pans and strainers and wooden utensils. Are you eating mostly home cooked naturally gluten free whole foods? That helps also. Make sure you check any med or supplement you take to make sure they are gluten free. Read...
  12. Welcome, you are in the right place no matter what your blood tests results are so don't stop the diet if the results of those are negative. As to the BS issue that has happened to me also. With myself I had gone to the doctor early on in diagnosis for help after a glutening. He pronounced me diabetic and pushed meds on me also. I refused them though but...
  13. Thank you everyone. I have lost dogs before but for some reason it didn't hit me as bad as losing this one. Perhaps because my kids were still young and at home and needing me. Perhaps because it was so sudden. He stopped wanting to eat Friday night and his breathing was very labored. I thank God for my vet clinic as I was able to call yesterday when he got...
  14. I don't understand how your doctor could say villi were flattening but it was a negative biopsy. Your doctor may be one who won't diagnose until villi are totally gone. Flattened villi are diagnostic of celiac. All your others issues point to that also. False negatives are common on both blood and biopsies. Do stick with the diet. It may take some time for...
  15. Thank you everyone. He was so special, at least to me. My house seems very quiet now. I know I won't get over this quickly but I will get over it. There is no one to eat that last bite now or laying on the back of the couch waiting to do a happy dance when I come home. He got me through the last 4 years of undiagnosed physical hell and was just as happy to...
  16. The long years I spent undiagnosed cost me dearly. I lost all my freinds and family has pretty much turned their back on me. Now I have no one. I lost my only freind yesterday. My little dog was the only one I had. He was the only one I could talk to. The only one who would go for walks at the lake or keep me company in the yard. The only one who was always...
  17. Are there artifical sugars in it? That can cause issues for some folks.
  18. Wouldn't touch it. Not only do I not trust it's effectiveness in treating something that is autoimmune and not just blocking the GI symptoms I have also seen so many meds that I have been prescribed pulled off the market that I just don't trust that the 'vaccine' would be safe in the long term. The gluten free diet has no side effects so I will simply stick...
  19. It is not uncommon for the reaction to be delayed. For me it is three days before symptoms show up. You clearly are reacting to gluten. Whether your biopsy will be positive or not I don't know. Your doctor may give you a diagnosis based on your reaction to the gluten challenge even if the biopsy is not conclusive. I hope you are feeling better soon and you...
  20. Could you try some counseling? It sounds like you have a lot going on that isn't good and having someone to talk about it all with might help. The gluten free lifestyle isn't always easy and it doesn't sound like some of your 'freinds' are helping any. While drinking may seem like it is helping while you are doing it in the long run it can harm more than...
  21. Personally I wouldn't touch it. The chance of CC is IMHO very high unless they use a different plant to make it.
  22. I have been known to ask the cashier to wipe off the belt if crumbs are really obvious and there are not a horde of folks in line behind me.
  23. Do those gluten free cereals you are eating have oats? Some of us don't tolerate oats. Are you on any medication and if you are have you checked to make sure that the meds are gluten free with the maker? If you have a significant other who eats gluten are they taking care not to contaminate you by brushing teeth before kissing? Are you using any home remodeling...
  24. Since a doctor has already diagnosed you with DH then you do have celiac. It's too bad the doctor didn't have you go gluten free. Read as much here as you can as the gluten-free lifestyle can be tricky at first. I hope you heal quickly. Oh and do avoid iodine for a while until the rash clears up. Once you have been rash free for a month or two try adding...
  25. While lists can be helpful product ingredients change at will. Reading the ingredients on all stuff is the way to go. With the Ovaltine, isn't that made with malt? Perhaps that has changed but any time I have looked at it malt was listed. Has been awhile though and that may have changed.
