  1. You mention taking a tincture. Have you made sure the tincture is not made with a gluten grain alcohol? Not all of us will react but I do react to distilled gluten. My local healthfood store called companies for me when I wanted to try a couple and with my being very sensitive it was advised that none of them would be safe for me. I got for sure gluten free...
  2. Because it is processed with barley. The list of folks that have reacted to it is a long one.
  3. Genetic testing can be part of the diagnosis picture but there are more genes associated with celiac than just those 2. Also folks can have the genes and never develop celiac. The best test there is at present is a strict trial of the diet.
  4. I was watching the Today Show. The newscasters were sitting in front of a window and suddenly you could see the smoke over their shoulders. It was prediagnosis and I had an acupuncture appointment soon after that and although I was very shaken I went anyway. While laying there with all the needles I heard the acupuncturist and another person laughing in the...
  5. Do try a rice milk but NOT Rice Dream. Wegmans has a good rice milk if you have one near you. There are also almond milks and hemp milk (which is a good source of protein) I would hold off on soy milk for now.
  6. The diet doesn't have to be expensive. Go with whole unprocessed foods like fresh meat and chicken, rice, potatos, fresh or frozen single ingredient veggies and fruits, beans etc. It is also possible to have delayed reactions or to have the reactions 'build up' so something you eat today may not be reacted to until tommorrow. The gluten free processed foods...
  7. It does sound like you are in the right place. Do wait on trying the diet until all testing is done. After testing is finished give the diet a good strict try for at least a couple of months. Things can be up and down at first so don't get discouraged if your not instantly feeling great. Read as much as you can here and ask any questions you need to.
  8. Gluten reactions can be delayed by up to a week. Some folks notice symptoms right away but others have a delay. I am of the 3 days till symptoms hit group. So yes gluten injested one day may hit the person the next. Hope your little one feels better soon.
  9. I tried doing a search for 'Good for Life' bread and didn't find anything. Is the bread 'Food for Life'? If it is they have had CC issues in the past including recalls for gluten. If you have Udi's or Kinnickinnick available try those instead.
  10. The first thing you need to keep in mind is that testing does have false negatives. False positives however are very rare. If you are going to have the endo done you need to get back on gluten until that test is done. When all celiac related testing is finished then you do need to give the diet a good strict try no matter what the results. If you suspect...
  11. You mention that the fecal test was for fecal IGA. Do you know if your total IGA was done with any of your blood work? If you have low total IGA then that would throw off the fecal IGA. The best test is how you feel off of gluten. If your feeling better and symptoms are resolving then you have your answer. If you do want to have testing redone then that...
  12. Go ahead and take that vitamin as long as it is gluten free. The only main difference with it being for someone over 50 is it may not contain iron since women over 50 don't in general need iron. You may want to see if you can get some counseling to help you learn to deal with her a bit more effectively. I'm not saying you are doing something wrong or that...
  13. Your doctor works for you. Tell him you want at least 6 biopsies done.
  14. That doctor literally saved my life since I show a false negative on blood work. My GI wouldn't even consider celiac until I had seen the other doctor and once I was referred back to that GI he demanded another challenge that had very dire consequences. I hope you get some answers and some relief soon.
  15. Yea it sounds like you were glutened. It could have been from the restaurant but do keep in mind that reactions can be delayed so it may have been CC from something you ate yesterday or even the day before.
  16. Have you been able to eat anything yet? If not try something very bland like plain rice or cream of buckwheat cereal. If you are still having pain and are still feeling sick to your stomach or are running a fever you might want to go back to the hospital to make sure it isn't your appendix. If you are slowly starting to feel a bit better and are able to eat...
  17. I used to get them all the time. Haven't had any now in years.
  18. You may start absorbing drugs better once you have healed so do be careful as was stated by the other poster that you don't OD. Something you really need to keep in mind is that celiac can have neurological effects and make you more prone to anxiety, depression and schizophrenia. When you combine that with psychotropic drugs you are really playing with...
  19. Sorry this is so hard for you right now. Hopefully at some point you will be able to go to functions like this and enjoy the company of your freinds or coworkers. If the restaurant has a gluten-free menu you may want to rethink going. It is hard when so many social functions involve food but you don't want to isolate yourself. Eventually the invitations will...
  20. Your celiac testing was positive. False negatives with biopsies are not uncommon and the same with blood tests but false positives are almost unheard of. Your doctor gave you good advice but you may have some ups and downs while you get the hang of the gluten-free lifestyle. It is a good idea to eliminate dairy for a while as well as it may be hard to digest...
  21. I really feel for you living in such an unsupportive family. It has got to be really hard for you. Can you find a part time job somewhere that will give you enough money to get your own stuff without having to ask for the cash from the family? Some colleges will have a work study sort of thing or perhaps you could tutor another student in a subject you are...
  22. If you are going to have an endo do keep eating gluten until that is done. Even on gluten there is still a chance of false negatives with testing so when all testing is done give the diet a good strict try.
  23. It had been about a year for me until I took a position where I was doing art projects with kids. A lot of the stuff was gluten filled and I thought I would be safe by doing what I do at home when working with gluten containing glues and such like always wearing gloves etc. I was wrong. As soon as I got over that I then made a big mistake week before last...
  24. If you had a positive biopsy there is a good chance you have celiac. Have you had the blood tests redone or did you get a copy of them? Some doctors will call a low positive negative. You might want to get bloodwork redone and then give the diet a good strict try no matter what the results. Or you could just go gluten free. Since both blood and biopsy have...
  25. Since your antibodies have gone up I would suggest you tell the GI doctor you want to do an endo first. While I can appretiate that they want to rule out other issues since you have had a positive celiac panel and have celiac symptoms and the common vitamin deficiencies IMHO celiac should be the first thing they look for not the last. Be sure to tell them...
