  1. It used to be thought that children outgrew celiac because it can take time before the damage from the antibodies becomes apparent when they began consuming gluten again. Doctors now know that is not the case. You may at this time not be having symptoms, or think your not. Many don't realize that celiac is much more than a GI disease. It can impact all organs...
  2. There are some of us who had perfectly normal pregancies and healthy babies even when celiac and undiagnosed. I am one of them. My second child was even a 10#er. Your antibodies have dropped a great deal and if you were still getting glutened I don't think they would have dropped that far. It can take time for them to drop to normal ranges. If you are feeling...
  3. I use Garnier. Dove and Suave will also label gluten ingredients. If you prefer organic good labelers are Shikai and Giovanni and Himalaya even says gluten free on the bottles. There are others but those are the only ones I am familiar with. I like the Himalaya but have trouble with getting it out of the bottle since the bottles are very stiff. They have...
  4. It is not uncommon for us to have a trigger stress or illness before full blown celiac appears. I am assuming that your doctors did stool testing for the salmonella and treated you with antibiotics. If they didn't and assumed that your problems were from salmonella without testing first then your issue all along may be celiac as the symptoms can come and...
  5. Just a quick note. If you are having nocturnal D that is a clear sign you have celiac according to my GI. IBS doesn't do that. Too bad my doctor didn't listen when I told him that was happening prediagnosis. It wasn't until a return visit after diagnosis that he really listened and said 'Gee I didn't know that was happening' I actually told him more than...
  6. I agree you are celiac and it is likely that you will do a few inadvertent 'challenges' early on until you get used to everything we have to do. Some doctors consider the diet so restrictive that they hesitate to diagnose folks not realizing that the diet is really doable and the change in our health is well worth the hassle of the diet. If your strict with...
  7. If it was a brain MRI if they find UBOs or bright white spots on the test that is diagnostic of celiac that has attacked the brain. Some neuros don't know this so if you have them and your doctor is one who doesn't post the results and I should be able to find some links about it form med journals that you canshow him.
  8. I understand your concerns but my signs may not be your signs. I get severely depressed and used to get a migraine and then the D would hit 3 days later. If you don't get glutened often then simply keep on as you are. If you do have accidental glutenings then do your best to avoid them by going with just whole gluten free food and bring something safe to...
  9. Thanks for the heads up on that. I had the same issue with a vitamin I used to take to help my hair grow back. I lose hair when glutened or soyed. One day I noticed a new addition to the label that stated it contained soy. That was never there before and I called the company to ask why they had changed formulas. They hadn't changed formulas but had decided...
  10. She really should switch to something without wheat and barley grass.
  11. Gluten reactions can be delayed. When I did my doctor guided elimination and challenge I was told to eat the suspect food in as pure a form as possible three times a day for a week or until I reacted. I challenged with Cream of Wheat and triscuts. It was day 3 before I reacted and then I called the doctor and asked if I should keep going for the rest of the...
  12. If D is one of your symptoms then the D may clear things out and since reactions can be delayed it may take a day or two to react after eating gluten. I had a pattern for a long time of having violent D and then nothing for a couple days until the D became a daily and nightly happening.
  13. I think it depends on the school. My DD went to Northeastern and her enterance essay was about her joy of finding out she could still have a Snickers bar on the diet. We had to do no paperwork at all and they were very helpful. She had a room of her own and her own kitchen and the only hassle we had was getting a refund on the meal plan. You may want to...
  14. Do you know of any good books or links to how to do this yourself? I know I keep the muscles in my face tense because sometimes on it's own I can feel all the muscles in my forehead relax. Real weird feeling and can't figure out how to do it when I want to as it seems involuntary.
  15. NO, I found that out the hard way. Watch out for it and barley grass in supplements because they can have both and still be labeled gluten free.
  16. Yes I have had issues with cramps. I found magnesium supplements to help a great deal.
  17. I got gene tested through Enterolab a few years after diagnosis because I wanted to know which genes I carried. Gene testing is far from perfect though since there is still much to be learned about celiac associated genes. Also since folks can have celiac associated genes and not develop celiac it isn't really diagnostic but can be part of the diagnosic...
  18. Have you tried eliminating soy and dairy? Soy causes a great deal of inflammation for me, both that and gluten will cause my intestines to swell and lead to 'pencil stool' (sorry for the TMI). It took me quite a while to figure out the soy issue as I thought I was getting glutened by gluten-free foods that had soy in them. I find asprin helps with the inflammation...
  19. You should get a dedicated toaster, replace scratched non-stick pans, strainers and wooden utensils. Do you have your own dedicated condiments, butter and nut butters? You shouldn't be sharing those with the gluten eaters in your house. Also be sure to check any supplements and script and OTC meds you take as well as checking your toiletries if you haven...
  20. I would also see your dentist. The scalloped tongue with teeth marks and the jaw issue could mean you are grinding your teeth at night. A night guard should help. I no longer grind my teeth in my sleep but have taught myself over the years to keep my tongue between my teeth because of bad teeth and grinding. I also have ridges in my cheeks for the same reason...
  21. I don't know what the labeling laws are where you are but I would call the company and ask what the items I bolded are derived from. I think a wheat or barley derived ingredient are more likely the issue. I would also ask if the salt they use is iodized but don't think it likely it is.
  22. I don't think the antihistamines would have helped if it was a DH reaction. At least they never did for me.
  23. Garnier makes a facial scrub that doubles as a mask. I use it as a mask once a week to keep blackheads at bay. It works well for me.
