ARCHIVED Pacific Foods Rice Milk
ravenwoodglass replied to GFreeMO's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've never had an issue with any Pacific brand beverages but haven't used them in a while. I go with Wegmans Rice Milk now as it is less expensive and safe. -
ARCHIVED Celiac In The Summer
ravenwoodglass replied to allergyprone's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Myself and both children were born in the summer all in the same month. Makes for a pretty boring mother's ring. However my mother and my other brother, both who we think had and have celiac, were born in the winter though. -
Sorry to hear that. I hope he wins the fight. (((((((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))))))))))

ARCHIVED Purple/red Scars After 2 Months- Do They Fade Away Eventually?
ravenwoodglass replied to lagrangecalv's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
They will fade but it can take a long time. The ones I had on my legs from when I was a child took literally years but the ones that I had on my face and back were mostly gone within a few months. Take heart in the fact that they are likely more obvious to you than to others. If they really bother you then get some gluten free cover-up to use until they have... -
ARCHIVED What Regular Beer Has The Least Gluten
ravenwoodglass replied to OhWell's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You have found one of the best sites there is for info. Before you go gluten light please do get at least a celiac panel done. All first degree relatives of someone diagnosed is advised to do so even if they don't seem to have the typical celiac symptoms. Celiac is genetic and it is common for there to be more than one in a family and with the different presentations... -
ARCHIVED Pity Party/ College Search
ravenwoodglass replied to ryebaby0's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I would go with number 2 if that is a school he wants to go to. He can share a place off campus with other students to save some money and you won't be charged the room and board fee at the school so that will help to offset the costs. My DD faced this same issue at her school when they insisted freshman live on campus. The school admitted they couldn't... -
ARCHIVED Different Face Wash?
ravenwoodglass replied to bbdailey's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Me too. I get frankly suicidal. I do know now that it will lift which does make it easier to deal with. I would go back to whatever face wash you were using before this started and see if that helps. Some companies are really good about labeling gluten in topicals, Dove is one and so is Garnier, which is what I use, if you really want a change. -
ARCHIVED What Regular Beer Has The Least Gluten
ravenwoodglass replied to OhWell's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I do have to admit that when someone said on the board a long time ago that Bud Light was low enough to not effect us I did try one. Boy did it taste good as I was a big fan of beer prediagnosis and the sorghum beers to me taste nasty. Result was not pretty. I might as well have had a piece of cake or some phyllo. Just not worth it. You have to keep in mind... -
ARCHIVED What Food Should I Eat On An Elimination Diet
ravenwoodglass replied to smc's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well the elimination police aren't going to go after you if you do. You could try it for a couple of weeks and if you are still having the same pattern of issues then drop it and use something else as a carb source. You might want to be sure to rinse the rice well before cooking and use one that is just rice. -
ARCHIVED Ct Scan Contrast
ravenwoodglass replied to fattycat's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Great minds think alike. I have DH and my doctor wouldn't let them use the injected contrast when I had a scan and ordered gluten free liquid to drink. I had been severely glutened when I had a previous scan done with the regular barium drink. -
From what I have read in peer reviewed journals (sorry I don't have a link to the info) if you are strict with the diet your risk of lymphoma decreases and by year 5 is the same as the non-celiac population.

ARCHIVED Acceidental Glutening -- Better Than Worse
ravenwoodglass replied to sleer's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It can take awhile to get over a glutening. Some of us get an upset tummy and then it is over, lucky them. Others like myself will get a cascade of symptoms that follow a pattern that can take a couple of weeks or a month to resolve. It can take a couple of glutenings to know what your symptom pattern is and after a long time gluten free that can change.... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab
ravenwoodglass replied to Sammyj's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The best place to find out is your insurance company. Most will have a number you can call on the back of your insurance card. -
ARCHIVED Mayo Clinic -- Symptoms
ravenwoodglass replied to timothymichael's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
A very long time ago, and I mean many decades, the US formed regulations that when a meat item had any 'fillers' of any kind they had to be declared. That would include stuff like wheat or soy etc. Companies did it for the same reason bread crumbs were added to meat loaf, to stretch the meat. If the company says something is '100% beef' that is what it is... -
ARCHIVED What Food Should I Eat On An Elimination Diet
ravenwoodglass replied to smc's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My doctor guided me with my elimination diet and I started out with 5 foods, turkey, rice, sweet potatoes, peas and pineapple. No coffee, soda, only water as a beverage, no spices other than salt, no butter or sugar. He picked foods I did not commonly eat as those would be the ones I would be least likely to react to. In other words I started with foods I... -
ARCHIVED Blood Results
ravenwoodglass replied to Ilovehorses's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The posters question was "So could it still be celiac, even if my routine bloods are fine???" as the OP has not gotten the results of the celiac panel. There is also still much to be learned about celiac and gluten intolerance. My doctors trusting my false negative tests cost me years of my life and permanent damage. IMHO the number of false negatives is... -
ARCHIVED So Am I Definitely Negative?
ravenwoodglass replied to kathleenp's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
False negatives are not uncommon. If you are done with all celiac related testing do a good couple months strict trial of the diet and see if it helps. -
ARCHIVED Is There Really A Test For Celiac? What About A Dna Test?
ravenwoodglass replied to celiacshawn's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You have already done the best and most reliable test there is. You eliminated gluten, got better and had your symptoms come back when you added gluten back in. It sounds like you have a good doctor. You could do a lengthy gluten challenge for 3 months and then get blood and endo done but you could still have a false negative even after all that misery. ... -
ARCHIVED Blood Results
ravenwoodglass replied to Ilovehorses's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Simple answer, yes. -
ARCHIVED Celiac Or Travel Disease?
ravenwoodglass replied to afis's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am afraid I have to disagree with the GI doctor, strongly. Celiac symptoms can be 'treated' with meds but the disease will continue to progress. IMHO it is better to be diagnosed rather than living with meds for years and years like I did. I had a tackle box full and as more and more of my body came under autoimmune attack for celiac the scripts just kept... -
ARCHIVED What's On Your Ipod?
ravenwoodglass replied to Goof's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Just what I was going to say...but without the dinosaur part. -
ARCHIVED Jaqui Karr's Celiac Books
ravenwoodglass replied to Coolclimates's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have to agree and I am one of the rare celiacs that do have problems with distilled gluten grains. If someone is having continued problems or continues to have elevated blood work then maybe drop it for a bit and see if that helps but most will tolerate distilled gluten just fine. -
ARCHIVED 2 Year Follow-Up Enteroscopy
ravenwoodglass replied to alevoy18's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Is there anything that has changed in the last year? Any new scripts (generics need to be rechecked at each refill) or supplements, are you eating at restaurants more, are you doing any home remodeling or gotten a new craft hobby or pet? Changed any toiletries or makeup or gotten a new gluten eating significant other? I am really hopeing for you that you... -
ARCHIVED Lactaid Milk Just Like Rice Dream
ravenwoodglass replied to GFreeMO's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If you have a Wegmans near by their milk is for sure safe. Pacific brand also makes some good milks. -
ARCHIVED Who In Family Needs To Be Tested If I Am A Celiac
ravenwoodglass replied to Ilovehorses's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The only thing that I would disagree with in the quote the previous poster gave you is the genetic part. Usually they only test for the 2 most common genes when there are others that can be associated with celiac. Even if the gene tests are negative that does not rule out someone developing celiac. Unfortunately my family has first hand experience with this...
