ARCHIVED So Far.......so....weird?
ravenwoodglass replied to MEH's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am glad you figured it out. I was thought to have MS and a slew of other things also. I was the about same age as you when I was finally diagnosed. I would love to write to all my old doctors but as of yet, over 8 years later, I am still to angry to do so. Be sure you are avoiding wheat, rye, barley and oats and not just wheat. If you still have contact... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Results?
ravenwoodglass replied to Boilermaker's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Oh yea, I went from a size 16 to a 4 in the first month mainly due to losing the excess water. I also lost a shoe size. -
ARCHIVED Feeling Like The Odd Man Out Here
ravenwoodglass replied to zus888's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You may find that you get a great deal of relief from your other autoimmune issues once you have been gluten free for a while. For some of us the GI tract is the last thing to be attacked not the first. For me it manifested first in the brain and skin and my mother was the same. For my brother it is likely that it was his liver that was impacted the most... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Medication Question
ravenwoodglass replied to angm's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If you do a search for contact info on a drug maker you can usually find a phone number or email address. I always double check with the maker especially with generics as the formulations can change. -
ARCHIVED What Else Causes Elevated Ttg?
ravenwoodglass replied to October3's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
This sounds like a good plan. If he does have GI damage then he may not heal enough in that two months to make a lot of difference in his iron levels but he may. I do think your doing the right thing by taking him gluten free and your plan to challenge after 2 months strictly on the diet is a good one. I have never been able to understand why some doctors... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Toaster
ravenwoodglass replied to anewlife's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Just use a dedicated area and wash your hands after. Baking with flour could be a problem though as it can become airborne and inhaled into your system. -
You likely inhaled flour particles from the air. Flour stays airborne for quite some time and even the tiniest amount is enough to flare the antibody reaction.

ARCHIVED I Am Grateful Truly I Am But Some Days......
ravenwoodglass replied to cahill's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Great idea for a thread. Sometimes it is hard to concentrate on the good things we do have when it seems so much is lacking or gone. I am grateful that I woke up today, got out of bed and stood up without falling over. I am grateful that I have my little dog and my kitties to brighten my day. I am grateful that although I don't have a lot of extra... -
ARCHIVED What Else Causes Elevated Ttg?
ravenwoodglass replied to October3's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Since you had the positive TTg have you asked your doctor if he would give a 'diagnosis' based on that and response from the diet? Some will give you the needed 'gluten free diet' slip for school on that basis. -
ARCHIVED Almost Cried At Work!
ravenwoodglass replied to Kimbalou's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Try and make a habit of always have some sort of gluten free treat with you if you can. Maybe on the weekends bake a batch of gluten free cupcakes and stick some in the freezer. Then bring one or two into work with you for the times that the other folks are having their gluten filled goodies. That way you won't feel as left out. It is hard to cope with all... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Medication Question
ravenwoodglass replied to angm's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Simple answer is yes that could be an issue. -
ARCHIVED Hormones
ravenwoodglass replied to jazzbaby's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I was put into an early menapause by celiac complete with awful hot flashes, for me the diet resulted in a great lessening of them. Everyone is different so I can't say whether the diet will or will not help yours. -
ARCHIVED One Last Question...sorry Guys
ravenwoodglass replied to scottyg354's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Be aware that if you are taking a vitamin with folate that can cause the B12 to read higher than it really is. B12 is a water soluable vitamin so it is very hard to take too much. You might want to try a sublingual B12 for a bit and see if it makes a difference in the nerve issues. -
ARCHIVED Should I Also Have My Igg Levels Tested?
ravenwoodglass replied to WIGirl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The fact that you felt significantly better on the diet is IMHO the best test there is. You could try to push for the Igg testing but do be aware that can be a false negative also. The bottom line is to go with what your body tells you. If being gluten free gets rid of your issues you really don't need a doctors permission to be gluten free. -
ARCHIVED So Upset...
ravenwoodglass replied to zebaldwin's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes it is very possible to have negative results and still have a problem with gluten. This is especially the case, I think, when the issues with the gut are still sporatic or it is systems other than the gut that are impacted. Believe me I know how you feel. There were so many times that doctors gave me the bloodwork thinking that I was for sure celiac and... -
ARCHIVED How Do You Know If Someone Is "super Sensitive"?
ravenwoodglass replied to teresasupermom's topic in Super Sensitive People
In my own case it was finally figured out when I kept getting 'glutened' by products that had ingredients that were gluten-free but prepared on shared lines and having obvious gluten reactions to gluten grain derived ingredients that are supposed to be gluten free by processing like distilled alcohols and vitamin E derived from wheat as examples. -
ARCHIVED What Else Causes Elevated Ttg?
ravenwoodglass replied to October3's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Actually if you are going to do the diet regardless then you don't really have to do any further testing. My main concern was that you would go by the gene testing as conclusive proof that the diet was needed. In my families case gene testing convinced my biopsy and blood test positive young adult that the other tests were false and all the symptoms were... -
ARCHIVED Doc Says Celiac - I'm Unconvinced
ravenwoodglass replied to zus888's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If I had waited for positive blood tests I would have been, as my present GI stated 'one of the many celiacs diagnosed by autopsy'. I am a sero-negative celiac and because of my negative blood tests my doctors dismissed the possibility and wouldn't even do a endo. My children grew up watching their mother die a little more every day. The condition I was... -
ARCHIVED What Else Causes Elevated Ttg?
ravenwoodglass replied to October3's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
This is just my opinion but I would get the additional blood tests and try the diet. While most celiacs have the two genes noted not all do and not all who have the genes develop celiac. The best test IMHO is the diet response when all is said and done. -
ARCHIVED Family History Of Anti-Immune Diseases
ravenwoodglass replied to scottyg354's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It is quite possible you have other undiagnosed celiacs in your family. Your family members with Type 1 diabetes should have already been tested as the NIH advises all Type 1 folks to be screened. You mention an uncle with skin issues, what are they? If they are rashes it might be a good idea for him to get biopsies for DH. It is also not uncommon for celiac... -
ARCHIVED Why Does My Hair Look Like Crap Since Celiac
ravenwoodglass replied to Lexi's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Have you talked to your doctor about the hair loss perhaps being related to the BC pill you are on? This may not be the problem but figured it was worth mentioning just in case. Open Original Shared Link "Women who use oral contraceptives might be surprised to learn that hair loss is a common side effect of the pill. The pill -
ARCHIVED The New Kitty
ravenwoodglass replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
(((((((((((((((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))) You did the best you could. It is quite possible that someone else may have taken her in. Oftentimes kitties in that sort of situation have multiple places they visit. Let's hope that was the case with her. -
ARCHIVED What Candy
ravenwoodglass replied to Kolla's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm okay with the lecithin, the oil, flour or protein are a different story. Some of us can tolerate the lecithin but some of us can't. I am very thankful that I am one who can. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Grocery List
ravenwoodglass replied to Boilermaker's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It is hard at first but it will get easier. For this first shopping trip give yourself lots of time and try to relax if you can. Take a short list of the companies that label well and perhaps give yourself a treat once you get home. -
ARCHIVED Trying Gluten-Free For Migraine Relief; Have A Question, Please.
ravenwoodglass replied to Tiskers's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
'Glutened' is the term we use to describe the reaction that we get from gluten in our system after being gluten free. If you think that it is something that is sprayed onto non-organic wheat that you have an issue with (and I seriously doubt this is the case) then go gluten free, avoiding wheat, rye, barley and oats, for a couple of months and then eat...
