  1. I'm glad your doctor figured out what was going wrong. Hopefully the med will help greatly and you will be feeling much better soon. Do be sure to let the doctor know any meds including OTC meds or supplements you are taking and let him know before you add any new ones. Do not stop taking this med suddenly and let you doctor know if you notice any side effects...
  2. It may be tough but you won't heal until you do. Try the gluten free beers, you might find you like them. As to your other new post giving up the dairy is a good idea and I think you will notice a difference when you do. You can add it back in a bit later when you have been feeling better for awhile. You may also still be reacting to the beer you drank a...
  3. Antibodies anti Gliadin IgA 33* U/ml (adults <25) That was a positive test. If your not going to have a biopsy then start the diet. I hope your feeling better soon and feel free to ask any questions you need to.
  4. People need to be concerned about CC whether they are celiac or gluten intolerant. With both damage is being done. It is a common misconception that gluten intolerance is not as serious and that folks don't need to be as careful. They do need to be just as careful and in some cases are even more sensitive than people that are diagnosed as 'celiac'.
  5. It is possible to have celiac, and even to have it for years, and still have negative tests. Since your biopsies showed that you are in the early stages, and your doctor was smart enough to know that, you need to be strictly gluten free. Kudos to your doctor for not telling you to keep eating gluten and come back in a year to see if your villi are fully destroyed...
  6. It does sound like you got glutened. That was a sweet thing for her to do but it is always better to check items or pass them on. I hope you are feeling better today.
  7. Yea in my family it was 2 and 2. The men in my family would never likely join a support group for anything. There are plenty of celiac guys out there but some are 'in the closet' so to speak. A lot of guys wouldn't want people to know for whatever reason. It is like they taught us in one CPR class I took... We were asked what the most common thing was for...
  8. That's great news. I'm glad you went back after having a bad experience the first time. I hope they are able to be helpful.
  9. This is great news and hopefully the US will soon do the same.
  10. I saw that article and with good news always comes some bad. Daily hot flashes seem to decrease the chance of breast cancer but increase the chance of heart problems. Red wine and chocolate do that to me too. I gave up the wine but I'll be darned if I will give up my chocolate.
  11. Just because your celiac panel was negative a year ago doesn't mean it will be negative today. Ask to be retested if you need a diagnosis before you go gluten free. If you don't feel you need a firm diagnosis then continue on the diet strictly and see what happens.
  12. If it was me I would ask hubby to change the reservations to later in the week or next weekend and to spend tonight just cuddling. You want to be able to enjoy your special night together not be worried about getting sick in the middle of the meal.
  13. There are gluten free beers out there. New Grist and Redbridge. There are some of us who do react to distilled gluten grains so for hard liquor at first go with potato vodka, tequila or gin for example. That said when you first start the diet it might not be a bad idea to avoid alcohol for a couple of weeks.
  14. Do be sure to protect yourself from all the many sources of CC that we often don't think of in the beginning. Things like needing new pans if the others are scratched, new colander, toaster and cutting board. Not baking with flour for others. A check of all meds and supplements and be aware that barley and wheat grass are not safe even if the label says gluten...
  15. I have to note that I would by some doctors be considered to be gluten intolerant rather than celiac because I don't show up in blood tests and don't carry either of the two most common celiac related genes. As you can see from my signature gluten intolerance can also have really negative effects and is also an autoimmune condition. I also am more sensitive...
  16. That's what I do also. I also like Tom Sawyer's gluten free mix for stuff like scalloped potatoes. I am going to make a batch of banana bread today with the Pamela's mix.
  17. Welcome to the board. Gee I thought I had the record for misdiagnosis at over 40 years! I am soooo glad they finally figured this out for you. It is a big change but it will be so worth it. Ask any questions you need to and I hope you heal quickly.
  18. That's a really good sign. If you are going to get tested get back on gluten today. If you can stick with the diet without a doctors diagnosis then just stay off it and heal.
  19. I think the 'pencil stools' can be due to the inflammation swelling the intestines. I get that when glutened or soyed. My DD's only GI problem was GERD and that did resolve when she went on the diet so hopefully it will get better soon for you also. Hopefully the brain fog and skin issues will resolve fairly quickly for you. Do take the sublingual B12 as...
  20. I had the gene tests done 5 years after my doctors finally diagnosed me. It was a long haul because I am seronegative. Interestingly both my kids did show up positive in blood tests. I am a double DQ9 which in this country is usually considered an RA associated gene but in other countries is considered a celiac associated gene. While gene testing is interesting...
  21. I don't think I could live anyplace that didn't have a Wegmans LOL. In my own case there are some things I can eat from the Natures Marketplace section and many that I can't as I am also intolerant to soy and a lot of the gluten-free stuff has soy in it. That may not be the case for you as many of us do tolerate soy just fine. I actually eat more of the...
  22. I can't see where that would hurt anything and it will give you a bit of extra vit C. Let us know how it goes.
  23. If you can stay away from the alcohol for now that would be a good thing as it is tough on the stomach. One thing you may want to do at first is to avoid soy and dairy. You may have a hard time digesting dairy till you heal a bit and many of us are also intolerant of soy. Add them in one at a time once you are feeling better. You have a lot of processed...
  24. Yes things can be negative and he can still have an issue with gluten. Have you gotten your hands on the actual test results? Some doctors will call a low positive a negative. Regardless if he is done with testing give the diet a try. It won't hurt anything and it may help.
  25. That's great. Isn't it wonderful to get your life back!!! So glad things are getting better for you. For some of us the gluten reaction creates inflammation in the joints and it sounds like that was what was going on with your knee.
