ARCHIVED Backwards Symptoms?
ravenwoodglass replied to Bastian's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you think your symptoms are backwards because you have C instead of D then you need to be aware that not everyone with celiac has D, especially in the beginning. Many of us have years of C before the constant D hits. Have you dropped dairy when you are dropping wheat? Also are you avoiding barley, rye and oats? You should if your not. Have you ever had... -
ARCHIVED Negative Blood Negative Biopsy. Celiac?
ravenwoodglass replied to brigitam's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'm sorry the doctors couldn't give you conclusive answers but glad that you took the time and effort that was needed to confirm that your little one does have an issue with gluten. Thanks for posting as it will likely be helpful to others that are considering whether to try the diet anyway. Do keep your doctor in the loop and let him know at the next well... -
ARCHIVED Amazing Grass Green Superfoods?
ravenwoodglass replied to kdonov2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yea I made the same mistake with a supplement once. Neither wheat or barley grass are safe for us but they are allowed to be called gluten free since there is no protein. Sorry you got sick and I hope you are over the reaction soon. -
ARCHIVED Advice About My Gasroscopy Please....
ravenwoodglass replied to fozbery's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Since your still on gluten call your doctor and get the blood work done ASAP, just because the test was negative 8 years ago doesn't mean it will be now. Once the test is done then get on the diet you really don't need to wait for the results. Also since the enzyme that helps us digest dairy is located in the same area that is damaged by celiac almost all... -
ARCHIVED Dna Test Positive, Biopsy Negative
ravenwoodglass replied to confused mom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think your doctor may have put her in the 'latent' catagory because she has C and not D. She is symptomatic but unfortunately her doctor wants to label her with IBS. At least he did tell you she needs to be gluten free for life and that is what you need to concentrate on. Some doctors might have said to keep her on gluten and come back in a year to see... -
I have arthritis as well, or maybe I should say had. I got very lucky and within about 6 months gluten-free it was pretty much in remission unless I get gluten or soy in my system. They tried a lot of different script meds for it but nothing gave me any relief and some even got pulled off the market. The most effective thing for me is plain asprin when things...

ARCHIVED Dna Test Positive, Biopsy Negative
ravenwoodglass replied to confused mom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If she had positive blood work she has celiac and the diet will relieve her symptoms. How many biopsies did the doctor take? What were the results of those biopsies? Some doctors won't diagnose until the villi are totally destroyed. In addition damage can be patchy and get missed. Going gluten free is what she needs to do and you are in the right place for... -
ARCHIVED Advice About My Gasroscopy Please....
ravenwoodglass replied to fozbery's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Did you have any blood tests for celiac done? If not you might want to get them done before you go gluten free. Glad she took lots of biopsies and hopefully they will give a clear result. Since you have had the tests you can go gluten free now and your body may give you the answer before the tests are even back. For some of us gluten can be addictive so your... -
ARCHIVED Starting The Diet...need A Little Help
ravenwoodglass replied to zebaldwin's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, but if you share a house with gluten eaters get your own jar to prevent CC. You may want to find one without soy oil as some of us do have problems with soy. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Flour Substitutes For Baking
ravenwoodglass replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You could try Pamela's Baking mix it already has baking powder and baking soda so you would leave those out. Tom Sawyer makes a good flour mix also without the rising agents. I use that for stuff like scalloped potatoes and the Pamela's for everything sweet. -
ARCHIVED Help Im So Nervous!
ravenwoodglass replied to lizziebee's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Please try not to be afraid of the endo. You most likely will not remember anything about it. You will go to the hospital and they will give you an IV where they will give you a drug to make you go into a twilight sleep. Some people will remember the spray they will use to numb your throat but most don't even remember that. For me the hardest part was waiting... -
I am looking to rejoin the working force. Being in my midfifties I already have one strike against me as any of you older out of work folks already know. I went prematurely grey many years ago and a couple of years ago I got tired of dyeing my hair so I stopped. The back of my head is mostly dark brown but the crown and front are generously interspersed with...

It counts as a full one. Your not pretending if your doing creative projects you are an artist. Art isn't found just in gallerys and musuems.

ARCHIVED Am I Doing The Right Thing!?
ravenwoodglass replied to salexander421's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Since you have gone through the hell of the challenge you could go ahead and get the scope done now but it seems as the other poster stated that you already have the answer and you should keep in mind that whether you go ahead and have it done now or wait another month you could still have a false negative. -
ARCHIVED Anyone Use A Rice Cooker To Steam Other Stuff?
ravenwoodglass replied to superfob's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I would get a new rice cooker for your own use. The steamer baskets are like colanders and if it has been used for gluten foods a residue can be left in the holes. -
ARCHIVED I Need More Help
ravenwoodglass replied to patylu's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Healing can be up and down in the beginning, especially since there are so many ways that gluten can sneak in. The fact that you were feeling better for a couple weeks is significant. I would stick with the diet and be very careful of cross contamination. Keeping a food and symptoms log can be helpful as at times the gluten reaction can be delayed. Staying... -
ARCHIVED Itching Worse In The Evening?
ravenwoodglass replied to Hopeful1950's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I haven't used Dial soap but I think it is a Unilever company and if so it should label wheat or oat ingredients clearly. Suave does not label their products as gluten free but as you saw with the product you had been using they will tell you if it is in there. I like the Garneir products so much that they are all I use for hair and skin care other than... -
ARCHIVED Itching Worse In The Evening?
ravenwoodglass replied to Hopeful1950's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Be careful of the Bakery on Main Granola Bars as some of them contain oats. Some of us tolerate gluten-free oats okay but not all do. If you are still having any issues that are gluten related you may want to delete oats for a bit and see if they resolve. Do drop the skin and hair products that have gluten ingredients. It may be what is keeping your itching... -
ARCHIVED How Do You Do This?
ravenwoodglass replied to StephHappens's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You do need to read labels. As mentioned if you can go with whole unprocessed foods it is a bit safer. If you live near a Wegmans they label all their name brand gluten-free stuff with a circle G. Kraft, Unilever, Hormel, Yoplait are some of the companies that will all clearly label gluten ingredients. If you don't see wheat, rye, barley or oats it is not... -
ARCHIVED Forget Doctors (Or At Lest Mine)
ravenwoodglass replied to NancyL's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You have a right to copies of the tests. Demand copies of them. You can also ask to be put on a cancelation list if you can get there in short notice. You were likely given the first open appointment and the cancelation list can get you in sooner. -
ARCHIVED Lab Results Interpretation
ravenwoodglass replied to mariefnp's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If your present GI thinks he can rule out celiac based on a 3 year old endoscopy then it would be a good idea to find a different doctor. Just because a test was negative 3 years ago does not mean it would be negative today. If you want a doctor derived diagnosis do keep eating gluten and go to someone else. After all testing is done do give the family a... -
ARCHIVED My Test Results
ravenwoodglass replied to canutillo's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Were there any other numbers on the paper? There should have been reference ranges. Usually the first numbers are the reference ranges and the second set of numbers is the reference range. I don't know what the TNP means. I do know that not everyone with DH will show up on a celiac panel and even some folks without DH can have a false negative. Is your... -
ARCHIVED Itching Worse In The Evening?
ravenwoodglass replied to Hopeful1950's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Yes you need to stop using that hair dye. While gluten is not absorbed through intact skin if you have lesions you are keeping the antibodies going by using the hair dye or other topicals with gluten ingredients as it is entering your bloodstream through the open sores. I was lucky and my lesions healed pretty soon after I was finally diagnosed. But I was... -
ARCHIVED Hyperspeed Digestion?
ravenwoodglass replied to hammergirl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I had this issue also prediagnosis and for a short time after I was diagnosed. After I had healed a bit the reaction then became more delayed. Are you ordering off of gluten free menus when you go out? While it might be best to skip restaurants until you are well healed if you do go to one make sure you go for the gluten free menu or go to a place where you... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free - Great To Awful And Back Again?
ravenwoodglass replied to annegirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Are you being careful about CC? As we heal we can become more sensitive to very small amounts of cross contamination. If you haven't already you need to replace scratched pans, strainers, cutting boards and have your own dedicated condiments, butter, nut butters, jelly etc. If you made burgers for your family and touched their buns and then ate yours bunless...
