  1. Udi's and Kinnickinnick breads, Kinnickinnick Pizza Shells, Snyders pretzels, Wylde pretzels, Pamela's Baking mix, Tom Sawyer flour mix, Dinty Moore Beef Stew, Glutino Crackers, Chex cereal, Bakery on Main Granola's (if your new to the diet wait to try the granola's with oats), Bumble Bars (nut and honey snack bar) as a start.
  2. You can't know for sure. I would report this doctor to whatever governing head there is for medicine where you are. If there is no way to see another doctor who will do the testing, if you haven't already been gluten free, then do go ahead and try the diet.
  3. For a doctor to diagnose UC without even doing a colonoscopy is irresponsible and IMHO abusive. If you can't find another doctor who will test give the diet a good strict try and you might strongly suggest to your Mom that she give it a shot also. You never know she may have been misdiagnosed also.
  4. I feel like I am reading a post that I could have written myself at your age. Do get the tests for DH as if that is positive you are also diagnosed with celiac. This info may help with a derm and if they will have them do biopsies in the areas that are really itchy, like your arms. Open Original Shared Link From the sounds of it your whole family should...
  5. Some doctors would now diagnose with positive blood work and skip the endo. If you are going to have an endo you really need to keep eating gluten until that is done. If you stop now and then the GI wants an endo for confirmation of celiac you will have to go back to eating a full gluten diet for three months before it. If you need to be gluten free that...
  6. Keep in mind there can be high rates of false negatives so if folks have any health issues even if they test negative a trial of the diet won't hurt.
  7. The point in trying the diet anyway is the high rate of false negatives. I was told for years that celiac was not my problem and was close to death by the time doctors finally realized that was what I had. It is up to you of course whether you want to give it a try or not but you have nothing to lose by doing so and possibly have you health to gain.
  8. You may want to check out this article linking celiac and asthma Open Original Shared Link
  9. While it doesn't always mean that one of you has the disease it does mean that one or both of you carry the genes. Glad to see you are both being tested and any other children should also be screened. If one of you shows positive then your parents and brothers and sisters should also be screened.
  10. Be careful with ephedra. It has been banned and unbanned numerous times. It can be dangerous. If you are drinking multiple doses of this for energy you might want to go with coffee instead. Open Original Shared Link It's important to note that ephedra gained its primary claim to fame as a weight loss supplement and is often times used in combination...
  11. You may like this person but she is no real freind. Talk to her, nicely, but explain that if she should do something like this again you will have to talk to the principal. That was a very poor example of acceptable behavior in front of the children.
  12. You may want to try taking some sublinual B12 and see if that helps those tingles. We often can not utilize B12 from swallowed supplements and the sublingual will allow it to go right into your bloodstream from your oral mucus membranes. You might want to ask your doctor to check your vitamin and mineral levels to make sure you are not low on any. It can...
  13. To the OP - Since you have a strong family history of celiac and symptoms I agree with the doctors who are telling you to give the diet a good strict try. Since both blood and biopsy can have false negatives and no matter what the results you would need a dietary trial your doctors advice is good advice. It sounds like they will give you an 'official' diagnosis...
  14. They could very well be a thing of the past soon. I can't make any promises but my frequent headaches resolved very quickly once I got on the diet. I hope the same happens for you.
  15. If your DGP (the best test we have at present) was that high after two months gluten free I can only imagine what it would have been if you were still on gluten. Your being gluten free for that long, or even gluten light would cause the ohter tests to be a false negative. Do get on the diet strictly and don't look back. Also while most celiacs have one of...
  16. Do you have an allergist who can set you up with a starting point for an elimination diet? That can be really helpful. My allergist guided diet started with only 5 foods, all cooked plain with no seasonings, no condiments or butter and the only allowed beverage was water. He had me consume those 5 foods until I had been feeling better for a couple of weeks...
  17. No it is not okay. Has he been stict with the diet before going into the hopsital? Celiac impacts more than just the gut and if he has been less than strict with the diet that may be seriously impacting his health and could have lead to some of the problems that he is being hospitalized for. If he was diagnosed during this hospitalization he needs to know...
  18. It would be a good idea to get your D levels checked. You mention giving your birds gluten-free cereal as a treat, what are you feeding them as food? Finding gluten-free bird seed can be difficult and many birds do get seed and the dust all over the place. I kept getting CC'd by my bird and finally found him a new and loving home.
  19. Hopefully the poster with the air filter advice will get back to you with the brand. One other thought, when you are at work and use the rest room do you use the soap they provide? If so have you checked to make sure it is gluten free? Do you prepare your lunch in a shared lunch room or eat at a local restaurant when at work? You could be getting CC at lunch...
  20. Also check out the microwaveable Hormel Completes. I know their Dinty Moore Beef Stew is safe and they may have a couple others. I used to get the scalloped potatoes and ham and that was safe but I haven't had it in a while and I think the Chicken and Rice may be too but do read the label to be sure. Edit: Hormel actually has quite a few gluten free items...
  21. Have you talked to them at the caf? With celiac being more commonly diagnosed some schools are becoming more celiac savvy. The cooks might be able to guide you to safe items.
  22. Correct and we can safely add iodized salt back in after we have been outbreak free for a little while. We do not want to leave it out long term. My DH was severe and I was able to add it back in my supplements after a couple of months.
  23. I also am going to advise that he talk to his doctor. It also wouldn't be a bad idea to have him get checked for celiac while he is there. I know this sounds strange but although I haven't seen either in a long time both my father and my brother are likely celiac and both are addicted to beer. When I was first diagnosed my brother tried to go gluten free...
  24. Some of us become more sensitive to cross contamination after we have been gluten free for a while. Are you and your DH being careful to prevent CC?
  25. If you are still healing you are going to be fatigued in a lot of cases. Have you tried Royal Jelly? If your not allergic to bees it might be something to try. Also get a good sublingual B12 and take it daily as you likely are not absorbing it from a swallowed pill. How much sleep are you getting? Some need more sleep than others especially when in the healing...
