ARCHIVED Could This All Be Gluten Related?
ravenwoodglass replied to kiddo0215's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would call her doctor and tell her that since there is a family history of celiac you really want her tested. Also ask the doctor if they will give her a formal diagnosis if she responds to the diet as she may need one to keep her safe in school and in college. However there is a chance of a false negative and if you think she will resist the diet if the... -
ARCHIVED So Far, Soy...bad :(
ravenwoodglass replied to healinginprogress's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yea I do agree that we should be able to get 'sick leave' or temporary disability if our symptoms are severe. You might want to talk to your doctor about it. As to adding stuff when you do an elimination you need to add the item for a week OR until a reaction occurs. The reason for that is because it can take time for an intolerance to build up as explained... -
ARCHIVED Giving Up On Drs - Going Gluten Free After Negative Ema
ravenwoodglass replied to MsCurious's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I know your road to this point has been a long one. I hope the diet helps and you know we are all here for you. Anything we can do just ask. Hang in there and I hope you are feeling much better very soon. -
ARCHIVED Could This All Be Gluten Related?
ravenwoodglass replied to kiddo0215's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
There has been some recent research that shows a link between Asthma and celiac, there was an article about it the other day in the Health section of Yahoo News. From my own experience I know my asthma was caused by celiac because it resolved completely on the diet. Celiac can cause inflammtion that can cause issues with the muscles and tendons so the pain... -
ARCHIVED Hand Sanitizer Question
ravenwoodglass replied to eatmeat4good's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree hand sanitizer is useless for ridding your hands of gluten. Even a good rinse under the faucet will do a better job. I am not a big fan of those hand sanitizers as they seem to dry out the skin and too many use them instead of hand washing. -
ARCHIVED Must Have Kitchen Tools!
ravenwoodglass replied to bridgeofsighs's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I find a rice cooker with a steamer basket to be a big help as well as a little slow cooker. Makes like easier for me. -
ARCHIVED So Far, Soy...bad :(
ravenwoodglass replied to healinginprogress's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sorry that soy seems to be out for you also but you aren't alone and at least you are figuring it out fairly quickly in. It took me years and much thinking I was constantly being CC'd by gluten-free foods to realize that the ones that were getting me also had soy. I did do the Enterolab soy testing to confirm it but my body really was giving me the answer... -
Can you pinpoint what you are eating that has this effect? Are you having any other glutened issues? Some of us do become more sensitive to CC after we have healed a bit so a food diary might be helpful in pinpointing what the cause is.

ARCHIVED Celiac In Different Languages, Japanese?
ravenwoodglass replied to Ruth Strify's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Do a search for gluten free dining cards and you should be able to find one in Japanese. Did it for you, here you go Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED In Desperate Need Of Some Positivity :/
ravenwoodglass replied to zebaldwin's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes it would be processed because it is not a whole food. But as Irish pointed out in an earlier post not all of us can do whole unprocessed food all the time. Just try to make the larger part of your diet as unprocessed as you can. Go for stuff with the fewest ingredients, for example those chips would be much better than say Cheetos or Doritos (which both... -
ARCHIVED Blood Test Results Are In
ravenwoodglass replied to Staceyshoe's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My best advice would be to go with your own gut feelings. The procedure might not be as traumatic as it was when he was younger but if you feel strongly that he would not react well to it then go with the trial. -
ARCHIVED Sore Calves
ravenwoodglass replied to scottyg354's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Gluten can cause inflammation pretty much all over the body. At times it seemed like I was bathing in Ben-gay. I find Tiger Balm helps a bit now along with a hot shower or bath when I get that achey tight feeling or muscle cramps. I recently started taking calcium and magnesium supplements and that seems to help also. -
ARCHIVED Came So Close To Thinking I'd Found The Answer
ravenwoodglass replied to NancyL's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It is possible the wings were cross contaminated if the place also serves gluten food. I hope you are feeling better soon, hang in there and don't give up on the diet yet. -
ARCHIVED Waiting For Biopsy Results!
ravenwoodglass replied to HollyG's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It is hard to wait. You can and should start the diet trial now. There is a risk of a false negative with both blood and biopsy so no matter the results you need a good strict trial to see if it helps. You're in the right place to get support and info. Read as much as you can and ask any questions you need to. -
ARCHIVED Finally Cleaning The House
ravenwoodglass replied to healinginprogress's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Having energy when we haven't had it in so long is a wonderful feeling. Glad to hear you are feeling better and I hope it continues. -
ARCHIVED Still Undecided...
ravenwoodglass replied to Emsstacey's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Delayed symptoms are one of the features of intolerances. That is why when doing an elimination diet we are only supposed to add on one thing at a time for a week. Something that may be helpful for you would be keeping a diary of foods and symptoms. It could help you to be able to identify a pattern which may help firm things up as far as the need for strict... -
ARCHIVED Still Undecided...
ravenwoodglass replied to Emsstacey's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Considering this "I had an 18 for the vitamin d and the only thing flagged on the celiac panel was a high deamidated gliadin" if you can't get a doctor to scope you again I would go gluten free and not look back. The deamidated gliadin is the best test they have developed so far and if yours was high it is pretty certain that gluten is an issue for you.... -
It can take a few days for the reaction to build up. When my allergist first put me on the elimination diet he told me to make sure that I only added stuff once a week for that reason. It sounds like those eggs are a problem for you. I haven't had one in years because I reacted to them also.

ARCHIVED Is Corned Beef Gluten Free?
ravenwoodglass replied to Mama Melissa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think Wegmans may be in your area. If they are their corned beef is safe. Even if they are a short drive away shopping there is worth it as they do label all their name brand products that are gluten free. -
ARCHIVED Egd/biopsy
ravenwoodglass replied to Roda's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Since you have had a positive diagnosis and one child who also needs to be gluten free it wouldn't be a bad idea to see if a GI would biopsy. If they won't then your thoughts about taking you DH to the next allergist visit to have him hear from a doctor that your son would likely benefit from the dietary trial are good ones. If you see a spike in his growth... -
ARCHIVED No Where Else To Go....
ravenwoodglass replied to kaki-clam's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think he is right about taking it slowly as far as moving in goes. That is a big step for many people. Don't think just because he doesn't want you to move in right now that he doesn't care about you. Your only 35, women are having children in their 40's now so if you wait another year or two you are certainly not going to be too old. 6 months is IMHO way... -
ARCHIVED Depression And Gluten
ravenwoodglass replied to law81's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It might help but he would have to avoid drinking gluten grain alcohol like beer and malt liquor. You might want to have him get at least a blood test to start. You mention you had the biopsy. Did you have a positive blood test but negative biopsy? Both blood tests and biopsy can have false negative and after all testing is done you would need to try the... -
ARCHIVED Finally, A Diagnosis That Might Help?
ravenwoodglass replied to emmabee's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sometimes what it takes to convince skeptical loved ones is the results they see when we get strictly on the diet. If you return to good health gluten free then it is obviously something that your body needed. You do have to be careful of cross contamination and yes your SO should brush their teeth before kissing. Your in a good place to learn what you have...
