  1. Have you made sure you hair and skin products are gluten free? If not you may want to do so. While it is considered that gluten can not be absorbed by intact skin it can be absorbed by mucous membranes so IMHO it is better safe than sorry when you have active lesions.
  2. I could be wrong but I think Jello is a Kraft product. Check the box and if it is then if you don't see a gluten ingredient listed it is safe.
  3. I have had some nasty upper respiratory symptoms that came with celiac. Chronic bronchitis and asthma. Both resolved once I had been gluten free for a short time. Are you gluten free? If you want to be tested for celiac you need to eat gluten until the tests are done. If you are not going to get tested you may want to go strictly gluten free for a while as...
  4. I didn't have any pain personally. Mainly I wanted to say that if you have already had bloodwork done now that the biopsy is done you can start the diet and see if it helps. You need to do that no matter what the test results so there is no reason to wait for the results to come in. If you continue to have discomfort or it gets worse do call your doctor to...
  5. It looks like your doing well with the diet. You IGA was negative. Your total IGA looks to be in normal limits but without the labs reference range can't be positive about that. Hopefully your feeling well also.
  6. Have you seen the recent articles about asthma being another thing that can possibly linked to celiac inflammation? Here is a link to one article Open Original Shared Link
  7. As long as you are watching for any bad side effects and aware of possible contraindications IMHO it isn't going to do you any harm. It is in many script or OTC drugs for constipation. Here is some info on it from the NIH along with a list of script and OTC drugs that have senna in it. Do you like sweet potatoes or yams? If you do you could try some baked...
  8. It may not be the case for you but soy is a problem for me causing not just an itchy scalp when used in hair products but also causes my hair to fall out if I consume any.
  9. Hopefully you will be able to start soon. Do be sure to check all the meds that you will continue with while you are waiting. Celiac can effect the amount of meds we absorb and some meds like antidepressants many have no effect at all. With antidepressants they are finally realizing that when people don't respond or get worse on them that can be a sign of...
  10. Or part of the tail could be wheat stalks with grains at the base. Make sure that you go to a really good artist and have them do a bunch of sketches for you to choose from. A good artist is expensive so expect to pay $300 to $400 dollars for one of a good size that is well done. Do post a picture in your avatar when it's done. Love to see what you finally...
  11. I did until I found a dentist that would check what they used with me. While most products are safe there are some that are not. I really, really liked the dentist I had seen most of my life but when I asked them to check products they gave me a list of what they used. I thought great but found that many makers wouldn't give me any info since I wasn't the...
  12. It may take a few days to fully recover and yes it does sound like a gluten reaction. Welcome to the board and ask any questions you need to.
  13. As far as I know that scalloping is pretty likely to be celiac related, you have a very good doctor. I know the prospect of celiac is daunting but you may find that it also helps your Chrons symptoms. Your doctor is right that you shouldn't start the diet until all celiac related testing is done but when it is finished you should start the diet strictly no...
  14. I use Garneir hair products and most that I have checked are gluten free and leave my hair nice and soft. When my hair has been really dry I have used a light application of olive or coconut oil at night or applied before shampooing warm with a warm towel wrap for 15 minutes or so. Also make sure you are getting enough good fats in your diet.
  15. The DNA test can not firmly rule out celiac. Generally they only test for the 2 most common genes and you can be celiac or gluten intolerant and not have one of those two genes. I am firmly diagnosed celiac and always showed false negative on blood tests and that delayed my diagnosis by many painfilled years. My DD who was diagnosed by both positive blood...
  16. Dear Ravenwood, thank you so much for all of your posts which have been so helpful. I thought you would be interested in this article. http://www.livingwithout.com/issues/4_12/ataxia-2366-1.html

Let me know if you can't get the link. It's about gait ataxia and the best piece I've seen written about it. Thanks again.

  17. I also react to oats. Most corned beef that I have seen is safe. I have only found one soda that wasn't safe and that was a very pricey one years ago. Sorry I don't remember the name. I drink Pepsi products only and have never had an issue with those.
  18. I have been gluten free going on 9 years now. My health is fantastic with the exception of my teeth. I haven't even had a cold in so long I don't remember when the last one was. I am however very careful with my diet and eat mostly whole foods with the exception of gluten free bread and rarely eat out. I check all supplements and any meds carefully and avoid...
  19. My reactions haven't become milder with the exception of my DH which now is just a couple little spots when I used to have horrendous lesions from only trace exposure. However there are cases where young people will seem to have less of a reaction or seem to have no reaction once they have been off it for a few years, that is why they used to think that...
  20. In my opinion there is nothing wrong with having a gluten free house. Testing on children has a higher rate of false negatives anyway at that age. It isn't going to hurt her to be gluten free and will help you be a healthier mommy. Once she is old enough to be less 'crumbly' and will be able to sit at a table to have her gluten foods and not make an extreme...
  21. Was there anything you took for the cold or ate or drank when you were sick that you weren't before? Also as the previous poster stated we can become more senstive to trace amounts after we have been gluten free for a while.
  22. Are you consuming soy products? I ask because soy does that to me. It binds me up for days with gas and stomach pain and 'relief' is not pleasent. If you do consume soy you might try eliminating it and see if it helps. Also are you having pain, bloating etc with the C? If not and the C means you just go like every other day that could be the norm for your...
  23. When we are diagnosed most doctors will run vitamin and mineral panels and do a bone scan to check for osteoporosis. But some doctors will run those without an 'official' diagnosis. In some countries you can get a 'script' to lower the cost of gluten free food. Unfortunately 6 weeks may not be long enough to show a positive on blood tests or biopsies, the...
  24. Some vitamins will be labeled gluten free but have wheat or barley grass in the ingredients. Those are not safe for us. You need to read all the ingredients not just look for the gluten free label unfortunately.
  25. Do get a copy of the actual test results. You want to make sure that a total IGA was done as if that is low then it will make the tests negative. Some doctors will also call a low positive a negative. And some of us will show a false negative on both blood and biopsy. Celiac is checked for with a endoscopy not a colonoscopy but some doctors will do both....
