  1. Yes it could. If you were already gluten free it could also cause you to be glutened.
  2. False negatives are common in both blood and biopsy. Some have positive blood but negative biopsy and some have positive biopsy and negative bloods and some will have a false negative for both. When the tests are positive they are positive though. You could try having blood drawn now and if the results are negative then do the challenge full force and have...
  3. Are you baking with wheat products for others? Unfortunately that is not a real good idea for us. The flour can remain airborne for up to 24 hours and we can breathe it in or it can drop onto our food. It does take a bit of time for the antibody reaction to clear up so it can take awhile to get over a glutening. We have a recipe section on the board that...
  4. I also get neuro symptoms within 24 hours but the gut reaction can take up to 3 days for me. I will have gas and stomach pain for a day or two before the D hits. Intolerance reactions are often delayed.
  5. Then stop for now as this is doing you more harm than good. Have a plain broiled chicken breast and some rice or a baked potato and a bland veggie. In addition to the stress this fast is doing to you it is likely you are also going through withdrawl from the gluten. You need your strength right now.
  6. Please make sure that you do a patch test even if the color is gluten free. Your reaction sounds like it was severe. Are you covering grey? I ask because you mentioned it was the first time you had ever colored. If you wanted your hair to have some highlights or to be a bit blonder then some lemon juice and a bit of time in the sun might be a better way to...
  7. Hi and welcome to the board. What are you typically eating? It is best to go with whole foods at first and be very, very careful if you eat in restaurants. Is your home gluten free? If not have you gotten a new toaster for your gluten-free breads and are you avoiding sharing condiments, butter, nut butters, jelly etc with folks that are eating gluten? Even...
  8. It is likely to be boring but you could do a soup of sorts using the veggies. Since you have been recently diagnosed celiac your digestive system may still be quite sensitive and you might want to make sure your veggies and fruits are well cooked so they may be easier to digest. You may be in for a rough few days as many of your allowed items are a bit hard...
  9. I would concentrate on being gluten free for at least a couple of months. That may take care of a lot of your issues. Your digestive system is compromised right now detox diet may be irritiating it. Be careful of how many 'treatments' you are doing as it seems they have diagnosed you with a lot of stuff. You want to give time for the celiac damage to heal...
  10. It is present in some. Do you color at home or at a salon? If at home Garneir labels gluten clearly, Herbatint (a natural product found in the health food stores or organic sections of some grocery stores) is safe as long as you don't use the conditioner packet that comes with it. There are others that are also safe but the Garneir is the one I use so I haven...
  11. In my opinion since you do have a positive result you need to be on the diet. Do also post in the pregnacy section to get the advice of others but since undiagnosed celiac can be linked to miscarriages IMHO it would be best to be gluten free. After the baby is born then you can do a gluten challenge for 3 months or so and get retested. Since you already...
  12. Did your doctor do a total IGA? If that is low then it would produce a false negative in the IGA tests. You do have a high result for the IGG so after you are done with all celiac related testing, including the endo if you are going to have it, then go ahead and do a strict trial of the diet. While false negatives are common in blood tests false positives...
  13. Just because you don't have one of the two commonly associated celiac genes doesn't mean you can't have celiac. While DQ2 and DQ8 are considered to be the two main genes there are firmly diagnosed celiacs that don't have one of those 2 genes. I am one of them. Make sure you continue to eat gluten until your done with all testing and then give the diet a good...
  14. " After 3 days gluten-free I my appetite is suddenly back to normal and the reflux has nearly vanished." You had a positive biopsy and just a short time into the diet you are already seeing positive results. False negatives on biopsy and blood tests are not uncommon and it appears that your blood test may have been a false negative. Trust your bodies...
  15. It seems that many of us go through the extreme hunger when early in the diet. It will level off. It is almost like the body is saying 'hey this food isn't making me sick, nutrients yes!! give me more'. Is there a technical explination for it? That I don't know.
  16. In my opinion you are making the right choice. I hope you heal quickly.
  17. Hope you have a great birthday along with all the other folks who are having one so close to diagnosis. Although the changes are hard you are going to experience the first birthdays of many that will be much healthier and likely you will be celebrating many more birthdays than you would without the diagnosis. So happy first birthdays to you all!
  18. Sometimes the best thing we can do is to bring our own food or eat before we go and just enjoy the company. Don't let people guilt you into making yourself sick it just isn't worth it.
  19. (((((((((((((((((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))))))))))))))))))) You have the right to be sad about such a huge change. You are also likely going through withdrawl which can make us very moody. Hopefully the withdrawl will be over soon. Try to concentrate on the things you like but can still have, like chocolate for example. Treat yourself to little things...
  20. I don't know how much you know about Soy intolerance, but, do you know if I will react to potato crisps made on a pan sprayed with Pam(soy lecathin, soy fatty acids)

  21. I would ask your doctor to do a celiac panel. You can ask your regular doctor or the GI. Do not go gluten free until after you have testing done. If your blood tests are positive they usually will want to do an endo. After you are done with all testing you should do a trial of the diet to see if it helps no matter what the results as false negatives are not...
  22. Celiac is autoimmune. The antibodies can attack the liver. Usually once we are gluten free the liver panels will go back to normal. I understand your not wanting to go back on gluten. As mentioned though it is likely that your biopsy will be negative if you are gluten free when it is done. It is totally up to you whether you want to have the biopsy or not...
  23. If you are not yet in then celiac will likely keep you from being able to join. If you are diagnosed and hide it that is a federal offense so do tell the recruiter. There have been a couple folks who were in when they were diagnosed and they were able to stay in but kept stateside and others that recieved a medical discharge. It depends on the branch and...
  24. It is a awful lot to deal with at first. A bit of grief is normal and if you feel like crying then cry. It is better to let it out than keep it in. I was getting a lot of toe cramps also and they about drove me nuts. It seemed they would come every night when I would lay down. I started taking a calcium and magnesium supplement and it made a real difference...
  25. Using a few drops of your favorite perfume and then paint all your toenails different bright colors. That will be a smile to your face for a couple of weeks whenever you take off your socks.
