  1. I use Suave for body wash. My favorite is the one for babies it has a nice light lavender scent. They will clearly label gluten ingredients. Garneir is the brand I go to for skin care and shampoos and conditioners. They also label clearly. Giovanni makes some nice hair products, I had to stop using them because I am allergic to soy but at that time most...
  2. The antibiotics, as stated will not effect the celiac panel. Do go gluten free after the panel is done. You don't need to wait for the results as you have already had a positive biopsy. False negatives are not uncommon even on a full gluten diet but with the positive biopsy that 'trumps' the blood test anyway.
  3. I agree that being gluten free should improve your immune system. If you have an upper respiratory virus and it continues for much longer or you develop a higher fever or an increase in your other symptoms do check back in with your doctor.
  4. Plain rice is fine as is wild rice. Potatoes and sweet potatoes are also going to be fine. Do keep up the clean unprocessed diet as that will help you heal the fastest.
  5. Celiac can be a strong contributor to mental illness. You may be surprised and be able to stop the lexapro eventually. I figured I would be on my antianxiety med forever and am now finding I need less and less and hope to be able to stop it altogether pretty soon. I am glad you realize that gluten is having this effect on you so that you can be careful. Sometimes...
  6. I agree fully with the previous poster. You are not doing this for nothing you are doing this because you are celiac. You got lucky and have a doctor that did the best test we have so far for celiac, the DGP, and that was positive. You even saw some quick results from starting the diet. Give yourself some time to heal and do give up the dairy for a bit.
  7. Until you stop the lexapro do not drink, at all. You should also mention this to your doctor. With the effect that you are having you run the risk of losing it and hurting someone else or yourself.
  8. Yea it sure could be related to the glutening. You may want to hold off on oatmeal for a little while also until you are well healed. Some of us don't tolerate even gluten free oats and you don't want to be taking chances right now. When you feeling better and have healed go ahead and add them back in to see if they agree with you. I hope your feeling better...
  9. I don't know how often UCD survivor is on the board with this post being so long ago. You could try doing a search using the name of the test and the word fasting and see what comes up. You may find something on a medical site that will tell you the fasting requirements. You could also fast tonight, since the test is tommorrow and then ask when you get...
  10. You have a good doctor. With you doing a gluten challenge right now if your feeling ill that is going to effect your levels. Once your gluten free you should be feeling a lot better.
  11. While there is mention in one of the abstracts that gluten can penetrate mucosal tissue I didn't see one about whether or not it can penetrate intact skin. We do know that the antibodies can be found in the skin of patients with DH and that celiac can contribute to the formation of other skin issues. I am a celiac that uses only gluten free skin products...
  12. If the diet is helping stay on it no matter what the gene panel results are. Since you don't want to do a long term challenge, and I don't blame you in the least, you know that any testing for celiac will likely be a false negative. Being on the diet isn't going to affect testing for other stuff if there is a need. What you did by consuming the pizza was...
  13. Call your doctors office or the lab to ask about fasting. Or just fast after midnight and don't eat or drink anything in the morning to be on the safe side.
  14. You are correct that your being on the diet would make the blood tests a false negative. I personally wouldn't bother with the genetic tests. They are not diagnostic and if they only check for 2 of the genes, which is really common, it can be confusing rather than enlightening. If your doing well on the diet that is the most important diagnostic there is...
  15. Just because she is in special ed doesn't mean that she is doomed as far as college goes. Check into community colleges when the time comes, many have programs that may be a good fit for her. Encourage her, help her with homework or see if there are tutoring programs. If you have a local college many times college kids will be willing to tutor and sometimes...
  16. Your B12 is quite low. Do get some sublingual B12 supplements if your doctor does not want to do injections. Make sure they are sublingual as your body won't absorb and utilize it from tablets or food until you have healed. Have you checked all supplements and script meds for gluten ingredients? If not call the makers and check. Also check your toiletries...
  17. Here are two links to the recall info. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link
  18. Damage can be patchy and get missed on the endo. The scope only goes just so far and if your damage is in an area the scope can't reach or the damage is patchy and the damaged areas are not biopsied you can end up with a false negative. Now that your testing is finished go ahead and get started on a good strict trial of the diet. You body may give you the...
  19. You need to consume 3 to 4 slices of bread a day or the equivalent in other gluten foods at a minimum. Do be aware that even with a full month back on gluten your tests can still be a false negative. If you have been gluten free and react strongly to the challenge that is pretty diagnostic in itself.

You could try a different GI doctor, just because one doctor likes to use another doesn't mean that no one else is good enough. You could also ask to be put on a cancellation list so if someone cancels at the last minute you could slide in. You also have the option of just going gluten free now. Some doctors will diagnose based on positive blood work and...
  21. If she likes to give to help out animals what about giving her some cash and earmarking it for the pets. Then spend a day going out and loading the car with pet toys, towels, litter and food and delivering it to various shelters and organizations. Some kids enjoy giving more than getting. You could drag out the camera she hasn't used and take her picture...
  22. Gluten can be a literal addiction for us. It is hard but do try the diet strictly for a bit after your done with testing.
  23. You have gotten a lot of great ideas. The first thing I thought of was a camera. Something else you may want to consider since she already has lots of 'stuff' that is unused is how about a certificate of deposit? Could help toward setting up a habit of saving and come in handy when she is ready for college, especially if she lets it roll over every year....
  24. Definately a keeper. You're a lucky lady.
