ARCHIVED Celiac Neuro Effects Research
ravenwoodglass replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Perhaps. It might fall under the anxiety catagory if your waking up and not being able to go back to sleep due to racing thoughts. If your waking up due to D or stomach or muscle cramps that would be more physical. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Reaction Or Anxiety
ravenwoodglass replied to ll79's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You should get to the doctor. Are you a diagnosed celiac? If you are then you may be getting some continued gluten as usually the D doesn't last quite that long when we get glutened. Everyone is different of course. You could have food poisoning and D 24/7 for as long as you have had it should be looked into by a doctor. Hopefully you are staying hydrated... -
ARCHIVED How Long Will It Take?
ravenwoodglass replied to Artemis-03's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes you are doing the right thing by eating what you ate this morning. The supplements should help also. I do not think that sometimes being glutened is inevitable though. At least not when you are being glutened by eating what you know you shouldn't. You do want the antibodies to resolve as they can do a lot of damage. I don't think we can really detox... -
Glad everything went well. I bet that cake was spectacular as well as tasty.

I am hoping to get some answers from those of us who have neuro issues from gluten. I am writing a paper for a class about the neurological effects of celiac. If you have been on the diet at least 6 months and had issues with any of the associated neuro effects please take the poll. It would be quite helpful. You can select multiple answers in case you had...

ARCHIVED What Do You Do About Feeling Paranoid Over Gluten?
ravenwoodglass replied to T.H.'s topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am going to be facing this myself soon. I am just as nervous about it as you are. I am getting a room that has a kitchen but I am going to bring my own toaster, cutlery and a baking pan and foil. The area I am going does have a lot of restaurants that have gluten free menus but I am to concerned about the 6 hour drive home to want to chance it. As far as... -
ARCHIVED How Long Will It Take?
ravenwoodglass replied to Artemis-03's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Noone can really tell you how long it will take you to recover as it takes different people different amounts of time. Some will start to feel better in a day or two for others it can take a couple weeks for all the symptoms to abate. You HAVE to stand up for yourself no matter how hard it is. If you know the restaurant that folks want to go to call ahead... -
ARCHIVED Strange Rash And Blisters On Son
ravenwoodglass replied to brendab's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I'm glad the rash is going away. It could take some time for the antibodies to build up on a gluten challenge. I think it would depend on how many antibodies were there when the challenge was started. In myself when I was first diagnosed my DH would appear within an hour of injesting gluten but after the antibodies left my skin, after a couple years gluten... -
ARCHIVED Upcoming Celiac's Blood Test
ravenwoodglass replied to twistee2u's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes you need to be actively consuming a regular gluten diet for the test to have any chance at being accurate. Even then false negatives do happen. The blood test is looking for the antibodies and if you are gluten light or gluten free you will not be producing enough antibodies for it to show up. -
Meds and supplements do not have the same regs as food. You may not see wheat, rye or barley listed or with supplements you could see gluten free on the label but it may still contain wheat or barley grass. Do read all ingredients for supplements. With script and OTC meds it is best to call the maker, some pharmacies will check for you but some won't. Generics...

ARCHIVED Im Entering Worry Mode Again
ravenwoodglass replied to jasonD2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If this is something that occurs regularly at this time of year you should seriously consider the light therapy that was mentioned. Check out your local health food stores and see if you can get the special light bulbs that have been suggested. It may help a great deal. In addition, and this may not apply to you, have you had a traumatic experience or significant... -
ARCHIVED Special Staining To Diagnose Dermatitis Herpetiformis
ravenwoodglass replied to sharonlee's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I wonder if your doctor forgot to note on the biopsy that you were specifically looking for DH? -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Bisquick
ravenwoodglass replied to BethM55's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Have you tried Pamela's baking mix? I like that one. I also was not real thrilled with the Bisquick. Using their recipe with eggs just didn't do it for me. All I could taste was the egg. -
ARCHIVED Sorting Glutening From Lingering Detox?
ravenwoodglass replied to GypsyGirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The symptoms you are describing don't sound like detox they sound like CC. Perhaps from the dog food, if you pet him or he licks you there is the possibility that you are getting CC'd that way. You feed him gluten he licks himself and transfers the gluten to his fur and then you pet him. Hopefully your diet is pretty much whole foods with little processed... -
ARCHIVED Teeth Bleaching
ravenwoodglass replied to curiousgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I would call the dentist and talk to them about it. Both myself and my DS only tried bleaching once. The pain was just to much to take for both of us but for us the pain was in the teeth themselves not the gums. Hopefully someone else will be a bit more helpful for you until the dentist opens Monday. -
ARCHIVED I'm Self Diagnosing Again But
ravenwoodglass replied to jasonD2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
How elevated is it and is your doctor concerned? Too much self diagnosis is not always a good thing especially when someone tends to worry a lot. If it is high talk to your doctor about it and see if they can help figure out why. That is what you are paying him/her for. -
ARCHIVED Strange Rash And Blisters On Son
ravenwoodglass replied to brendab's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
This sounds like it could be DH, especially since it showed up after you added gluten back in. I would take him to a derm and tell him it appeared while you were doing a gluten challenge and ask for a biopsy of the skin next to the rash to check for DH. -
ARCHIVED What About The Cheese?
ravenwoodglass replied to katievesledahl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Many of us are intolerant to dairy until we have fully healed. I would drop the cheese and ice cream for a bit and see if it helps. Also if you are not a person who usually ate a lot of fruit and veggies before diagnosis you may want to cook them for a bit to make them easier to digest. A sudden increase in fiber can be a bit tough to tolerate. -
ARCHIVED Diagnosed... But Still Sick. Please Help
ravenwoodglass replied to cly's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This would be my first step. See if those antibodies are going down. Are you eating mostly whole unprocessed foods? When eating processed foods are you calling or checking to make sure the foods are safe? We can't always go by just reading the label as not all companies disclose heavy CC risk. Also are you on any scripts or take any supplements or OTC drugs... -
In myself since it takes three days for the gut reaction to set in my best guess would be the Uno's was CC'd. Can't say for sure since I don't know what other circumstances and stuff you have eaten or if you are living in a gluten-free house or using toiletries with gluten ingredients.

ARCHIVED Glutino Bagels
ravenwoodglass replied to c12's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Try toasting them instead. If they aren't cut then zap them for just long enough to be able to cut them. I haven't tried those but that is what I do with the bagels I buy. -
(((((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))))) It will get better. It is not unusual to feel worse for a bit when first diagnosed. Many of us go through a withdrawl and that can make us cranky and depressed but it will lift. Do try to go with as much naturally gluten free whole foods as you can. It will help you heal the quickest with less cross contamination. Do...

ARCHIVED Griocery Shopping In The Us Tomorrow!
ravenwoodglass replied to mommyto3's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Boy are you in for a great time! I think you are going to be overwhelmed with how much stuff under their private label is gluten-free. Their Natures Marketplace will have some gluten free frozen items, what they have varies by store. The one where I usually shop doesn't have as much as one in a city 15 miles away from me so every once in a while I go there... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Results Today
ravenwoodglass replied to adab8ca's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I am glad you got the answer. Now you can start healing. I hope you are feeling better soon. -
ARCHIVED Kraft, Conagra, Unilever
ravenwoodglass replied to nikaku's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I agree that the label should be trusted over customer service. I am very thankful for companies that do list barley when it is used. I personally wouldn't use the product with that as an ingredient. While I know the gluten is considered to be 'processed out' I prefer not to take the risk. For those less sensitive or with milder reactions it might be worth...
