  1. The bit I bolded about the duodonal folds is indicative of celiac. Hopefully the biopsy will be clearly positive but you do have a chance of a false negative on that if you were already gluten free. It does take some time for DH to go away. Have you eliminated gluten from your shampoos, conditioners etc? If not you should. Did they scope both ends?...
  2. If you think you may have DH I would avoid it. Also this woman was taking well over the advised dose of the supplement. Do you use iodized salt? If you do you are likely already getting plenty of iodine. Most multivitiamin supplements also contain iodine. If you are thinking you have thyroid issues perhaps your doctor could do testing?
  3. False negative celiac panels are not uncommon. If you are not going to have a biopsy done to check for celiac then go ahead and try the diet strictly for a bit and see if it helps. Do not go gluten free until all testing for celiac is done though.
  4. That is a wise doctor you have who is looking at the whole picture not just the celiac panel. I also think once you have been on the diet for a bit your LDL, HDL and D levels will improve. You should think of supplementing the D and also ask the doctor to test you B12 level if paresthesias or fatigue are a problem. When the body is ill the blood sugar levels...
  5. A colonoscopy is not a test for celiac. You need an endoscopy to test for celiac. Call your GI doctors office and ask if they can schedule both procedures for the same time. If they only want to do one test at a time I would opt for the endo first personally. Do stay on gluten until the endo and biopsies are taken.
  6. I don't know alot about the capsule endo. I am pretty sure that biopsies can't be taken with one and sometimes biopsies are needed as the villi are very, very tiny. That is something to talk about with your doctor. I also was very fearful of the endo. I had a colonoscopy done and like you I was awake for it and it was not a pleasent experience as I have a...
  7. I agree completely with Mushroom. This is also a real good indication that you need to be seriously gluten free not 95%. Your body is trying really hard to tell you something IMHO you should listen to it.
  8. If your blood tests were postive you are one of us despite the negative scope. You have 22 ft of small intestine and the biopsies can miss the damaged spots. I would go ahead and get off the gluten since you are done with celiac testing. Dropping the gluten will not effect the results of any testing for other intolerances. Also do not assume you have other...
  9. What your seeing is not unusual. It is not uncommon for folks who seemed to be asymptomatic at diagnosis to have reactions after gluten is taken out of the diet. Once the antibody reaction from gluten is gone from everyday life when she injests gluten the antibodies will spike as her system is trying to protect her from the substance that it finds poisonous...
  10. As long as your not one of the few of us who react to distilled gluten it should be fine. As Richard stated all vodka is distilled so for those of us not sensitive it wouldn't be a problem.
  11. If you are alarmed by this you may want to ask for a consult with a heart specialist. I suspect it is nothing to worry about but if troubling should be checked out.
  12. I don't understand why your doctor would tell you to stop supplementing D when you were still below the lowest end of normal. I would get back on the supplements and stay on them until you are fully healed and the test results are at least in the center of the range or a bit above. Yes easy bruising can be caused by vit deficienies and you should be taking...
  13. I think your in the right place. You saw symptoms resolve on the withdrawl of gluten and you are reacting to your gluten challenge. Do you have the actual results of your testing with the high IGA? If you do post them here as there are some folks who could help you interpret them. Many times our bodies can give us answers that the doctor can't and it sounds...
  14. If you haven't been diagnosed celiac for long you could consider waiting and making sure you are getting enough vit D, have your doctor check your levels in case you need heavy supplementation for a bit, increase your calcium and keep up with the excerciseing and see if once your gut heals and you start absorbing better your osteo either stays the same or...
  15. Yea most people eat that and more in a day. 2 slices of toast with breakfast and a sandwich for lunch and you got 4 slices already. Add in your pasta or a bun with a burger, a doughnut, a piece of cake or pie for a snack or dessert well you got the idea. If someone isn't celiac they can eat all that and more without a reaction and many do on a daily basis...
  16. While they aren't egg noodles I use the thicker style Thai Kitchen noodles when I make stuff like tuna and noodles. I just break them up, since they are spagetti length, before I put them in the water. I also use thier angel hair style a lot. I love those they cook in only about a minute. If you use the Thai noodles do check them starting at about 1/3 of...
  17. The best way to find out for sure is to call the company that makes the drug. Your pharmacy should be giving you a monograph with the name of the company on it or the company name may be in small letters on the script bottle. If the drug is a generic it should be checked at each refill. I don't know about the Boniva, I have osteoporosis but chose to pass...
  18. Perhaps your pastor would let you provide a small personal cup for the wine and use your gluten free host that should take care of the issue. Talk to the pastor about it. If not possible to do that then of course God will understand why you are not recieving communion.
  19. Yea it does sound like your in the right place. There are a lot of folks on the board that have thyroid issues as it is not uncommon for us to have more than one autoimmune disorder at a time. I hope you get done with testing soon. Make sure you keep up on the gluten until all your tests are done and once all testing is finished give the diet a good strict...
  20. Gee sounds like you must have the same doctors I had. LOL. It seems with today's heavily specialized medicine that we are treated like a puzzle with pieces that they never put together. Too bad most doctors never look at the whole person. Trust your body. I am glad the gluten-free diet is helping and hopefully the blood irregularities will normalize with...
  21. Yes it is not unknown for the reaction to happen that fast. Before I had been gluten free for a few years I also would start the breakout when I was toward the end of a meal when I accidently got gluten. Now my DH is the last thing to show up in a reaction and it is very mild. To get those antibodies out of your skin you really need to stop cheating. It can...
  22. Your not alone with the bone pain. I had been told by so many doctors that I 'just needed to learn to live with it' prediagnosis that I had given up hope of ever being pain free again. One of the best things for me about finally being diagnosed was having that crippling pain go away. When I get glutened it returns. For me the most helpful thing is taking...
  23. I have thought about this issue also. What I do is to shake the book over my trash can incase there are crumbs inside and run a damp paper towel over the cover. I also make sure that I wash my hands after reading before I touch my face, rub my eyes or eat anything. I also take a good look at the pages before I purchase a used book and if I see what looks...
  24. You could be getting more sensitive to gluten as that does happen to some of us. A few of us are also sensitive to distilled gluten grains, if you eat prepared salad dressing with distilled vinegar or consume distilled gluten grains in alcohol both would be a good idea to drop and then challenge when you are feeling better. Just in case. There is also the...
  25. Have they ever tried just an antianxiety med with you? I ask because for years doctors were convinced I was depressed and always gave me either antidepressants or combo pills and they always made me worse. Finally getting a pill that is just an antianxiety med has made a world of difference for me. My anxiety however didn't improve on the diet. If anything...
